Twister time

It's tornado season here and it's always interesting to watch. Monday, Lis and I were out in the yard watching them form. Look, there's one! There's two..five..six! They kept dropping down from a quick moving wall cloud, but, then the fierce wind would seem to either break them up or force them back to the clouds. We saw a couple of good solid funnels, but, they were white and never touched ground. The wind was so loud you couldn't hear yourself think. We finally retreated to the safest part of the house when the stinging rain hit.

The news from Oklahoma that day is so sad, it makes people feel helpless. HERE is a good video someone did of one of the tornados forming. The first part looks exactly like what we were watching here. I call them good tornados. But, then the whole sky seems to drop down and the funnel gets wide and mean. And black. That's when you know it's nothing but a moving wall of death and destruction. They aren't always so obvious though. Sometimes you don't even realize that you're right in the middle of a huge one.

We're in for more today, I can see the storm coming. It makes me wonder why we don't have tornado shelters in our schools. We live in tornado alley and yet we don't built a basement big enough to hold all the students. It's strange and stupid. We spend so much on landscaping and playground equipment, not to mention sports, like basketball courts and tracks, but, we can't put in a storm shelter? It makes no sense.

I'm busy putting in my gardens. The cold weather and my health have slowed me down. I have to get them all in before June 1st if I want anything from them. I'm nearly done now. I'll work today until the rain drives me in. I keep losing the Internet today because of the storms. I hope you guys are okay and no one was in the path of these storms. As I watch the funnels form I know it's the luck of the draw. That's all it is. A simple big gust of wind can be the difference between the destruction of an entire town and just watching a white ribbon in the sky.

i read somewhere those schools didn't have the funding for storm shelters, but yeah, like you said they have money for other things....some people had storm shelters in their homes and they appear to have survived it....i would this puts the spotlight on teachers, who all over the country have to buy their own supplies due to budget cuts, spend much of their time off preparing class work, grading, etc who are willing to risk, and give, their lives to save their kids in their classes....why can't the education budgets be increased?!

with a F5 tornado i know not much could be built to withstand that, but storm shelters would have helped....

i'm trying to clear areas of my jungle to get some seeds planted....we're suppose to get storms later today/tonight but of course we get nothing like the midwest....

I worked on the fruit garden yesterday to go with my grapes. Grapes, strawberry bed, cantelopes, watermelon and apples. They all look real good. Today I have to finish the big flower beds and the shade gardens, then my edible greens and I should be done. Then I get to piddle, which is the most fun. Lis helped me put in corn and beans yesterday.

I have two strawberry plants, though both have sucker plants growing off of them....i'll transplant them and get another strawberry patch going like i had before...i have one area cleared with red & yellow peppers planted, eggplant, snow peas and acorn squash....i got all the other pepper plants in pots, though i need to put the pots in an area (figured with all the jungle cutting i have to do, pots would be best for a lot of stuff this year...)....

my cherry bushes are gonna have a bumper crop this year (seems to be an every other year thing)...the golden raspberries are started to bud....it's hot and muggy today.....i also have bind weed taking over the side yard...but that's last because i'm not planting anything there due to so many furbaby graves....

i think i have a rogue apple tree in my yard too....some bird must have drop a seed!!!

best stop procrastinating and get out there...hah!

Be safe DD! Things are starting to grow here in West Michigan too. LOVE this time of year. (except for tornado season) We are pretty lucky here in MI, not too much in the way of natural disasters. The occasional twister or flooding like this spring. If the birds and tree frogs are happy, then I'm happy...lol

I also wondered why there are no tornado shelters in the schools. It seems to me that would be one of the most important things that would be needed. The school systems never fail to amaze me.

I just came back from town. They have been filming the new Bonnie and Clyde movie here but no one can tell me who is playing Bonnie and Clyde. I guess I'm asking the wrong people. It's already too hot to be standing out there to watch "the action". Does anyone know who is in the production?

I grew cantaloupes last year. I'm in the midwest. I didn't think I would have much luck with them but hey were HUGE and really sweet and tasty. I don't have a lot of room so I let the vines climb up my chain link fence. I was constantly making little hammocks under the cantaloupes to brace them.

Strawberries usually take a couple years to get good. The slugs were constantly eating them and they always had these little gnats flying around them. I even set up little beer cups down in the ground to drown the slugs but it didn't do any good. They would eat my strawberries and then drown themselves in the beer. ( they like Guinness) I finally gave up on the strawberries.

I found out Helen Hunt was playing Bonnie's mom and William Hurt was playing the lawman. They are using the local Masonic Hall for something and my nephew was hired to make sure they didn't abuse the hall.

CJ, thanks for the site. I'm going to watch it now.
