Miss Tia, that is so great! I love it. We have a green tree this year too, I put it up in the loft. How long did all that take you?? Oh, the toy soldiers are so cute!
Man, that's a good question. I guess because they're one of the oldest known toys and they're in the Nutcracker ballet, which is also a Christmas tradition here. Mostly, I think we're just crazy about lights of any kind here. Where are you from?
Hah! I will now totally look up the tin soldier tale again. Are you sure it's Andersen? (Sorry, it's just been a while for me.) It both makes equal sence. Thanks, both of you, for the answers.
i LOVE the green tree too!! i think it's so striking...
hmmm....it took probably all total over 12 hours and that is mostly due to figuring out what lights to put where and does this strand work? no, well how about this strand, etc....
i have so much outdoor xmas decor i can have a totally different display every year for the next ten years!!! :D
i always associated the nutcracker with the ballet....i got the 2 toy soldiers that match in the trash!! someone threw out toy soldiers! so i rescued them...and i bought the little blow up one...
i got the season's greetings light out of the trash too...brand new IN THE BOX! the wastefulness of people will never cease to amaze me...
Yeah, anon, it's Andersen's. I had to double check before posting, but I was pretty sure before (I used to have the Andersen fairy tale book as a kid and I loooooooooved it).
Miss Tia, I would soooooo give anything to help you put the christmas decorations. I love dressing up the house!!!!!! I can't really do that where I'm at now.

WOW Miss Tia that's a lot of fun!!!! I wish I could do that here, looks pretty!!!!
I'm not American - so please do not take this the wrong way - but I'd like to ask what the toy soldiers are all about.?. Thanks.

Germany. But I've spent time all over the place. I vividly remember Christmas in New Jersey in 2005. And not quite getting the decoration.
I thought the toy soldiers were used because of Andersen's tin soldier fairy tale, but the Nutcracker makes more sense.
