Pregnant? Eat your bacon and eggs

Scientists have found that eating a plate of bacon and eggs could help pregnant women boost the intelligence of their unborn child. Scientists at the University of North Carolina have discovered that the micronutrient, called choline, is vital in helping babies in the womb develop parts of their brains linked to memory and recall. Besides pork products and eggs, choline is also availabe in chicken, nuts, liver and milk. It's something good to know.

I keep telling my DIL this stuff and she rolls her eyes. I think she lives on Mountain Dew and Cheetos. Oh, well..we just found out that the new baby does not have the Chiari malformation and we're all pretty happy about that. He looks normal and healthy. Maybe I'll just buy her a big can of mixed nuts. Don't most tired pregnant women eat whatever is in front of them?

Good news Pat, glad to hear it.

I get my nuts from nutsonline.com , they are quick and got some great stuff. Chia aside, I order Quinoa, trail mixes and hemp seeds. They have some Turkish Figs that are pretty good too. Chocolate covered everything and anything.

Ori Hoffmekler wrote a book about the benefits of fertilized, organic eggs. I want to try raw milk, have you had that?. I remember my Grandma in Spain getting big jugs every morning and separating the cream and that nasty film that got stuck in your teeth!.

lol No! I was so picky when I was pregnant. I wouldn't eat pita bread, cucumbers, or anything with onions. But steak and eggs was always a favorite during those 9 months.:)

Had raw milk as a kid at Grandma's. It was serve yourself..lol. Not a great chore, as I remember. I liked cream seperating though.

Eggs didn't go down too well with me when I was in my 1st few months. Yuck. Throw up all the time! I used to eat big cans of black olives, I ate w/e I wanted. I knew it wasn't staying down for long. My kids are very intelligent, I ate pretty well. It sounds like protein is the key. Thats what our brains are made of!

Jarhead---What are the benefits of fertilized eggs? My understanding is that there really is no significant difference between fertilized and non-fertilized. The blastoderm is so very small. I'm curious to hear what you read.
I'm glad the baby looks like he's doing great, Pat. It's really sweet that you look out for him by telling his mama the latest research for healthy babies.
I ate a varied and very healthy diet for the first seven or so months of my pregnancy. Never touched chocolate or coffee, or anything that might cause any problems. Later in pregnancy, I delved heavily into diet pepsi and coke, which probably wasn't a good thing, but it helped with the fatigue. Looking back on it, I wonder if my thyroid levels might have been dropping, but who knows. We all just get through it the best we can.

I agree with getting her the nuts.

When I was pg with oldest, I was in love with eating french fries with lots of ketchup.
With youngest, it was chewing on ice. Hubs was always at 7-11 getting me a Big Gulp full of ice and soda.

Darn-it, can't she lay off the dew? Make gravy out of the bacon and pour it on everything. Who can resist bacon gravy? I bet it would be good on cheet-os, call it Bacco-cheet-o. Swanky version of shit on a shingle. Maybe one could even put a hard boiled egg in the gravy.

Gawd I must be bored that sounds awful. f-ing weather. Snow flying here.

Has anyone tried the Fried Oreos that Leno and one of the Kardashin chicks made last night on his show? Didn't look good to me. Tempura around an oreo. We shameless fry everything. Twinkies, pickles, snickers......

The biggest thing I did was to take DHA/Fish Oil and a multivitamin. They say that the baby will take what it needs from you. That is why a lot of women experience Mommy Brain.

As far as what I ate, I guess I was weird. I didn't really have any cravings for a specific food which is sometimes said to signal a deficiency. Just ate as healthy as I could and tried to eat almonds when I got tired. So give your DIL almonds Pat! They are great brain food.

I just can't understand why women don't take pregnancy seriously when it comes to nutrition. I guess maybe I was so happy to get pregnant after so much heartache that I was going to make sure that my son was given the best chance that was humanly possible. He amazes me everyday and I am thankful for his health.

Christina;

Fertilized organic eggs have a complete chromosome. Ori wrote about the benefits of eating raw food like spinach for breakfast and having a big meal at night 2 hours before bed. Throughout the day though it's vegetable snacks and juices and nuts.

I still eat whatever's put in front of me and I haven't been pregnant in 3 years. Gotta get a grip on that lol...

Both bacon and eggs made me gag when I was preggo, but I was always extra vigilant about what I ate. I think it's important to focus on natural foods (or as close as you can get, nowadays). Babies are so resilient...I've often wondered how some women that eat processed garbage throughout their pregnancies end up with healthy babies, but they do.

Noelle, remember how she used to mix a bottle straight out of the faucett? Drove me nuts, Noooooo, you can't feed a newborn city water! Oh, geez. The kid survived though..lol. New moms, huu?

I'm pregnant right now myself and, frankly, as long as I don't have to cook it, I'll probably eat it.

I craved sea food and liver & onions when I was pregnant. I was very anemic so maybe that had something to do with it. Oh also, pudding pops. Y'all remember those?
Noelle;
Fried Oreos are sinfully delicious.!! I can't wait for my local festival, they always have them. After they're done frying, they drown them in powdered sugar.
The chocolate cookie part melts and it's all melted chocolate and cream goodness.

I know you're moderating the comments right now but is there a reason that you aren't posting some of the non troll posts?
