The end of your end hanging out

Embarrassing hospital gowns which expose patients' backsides are set to become a thing of the past - after new 'modesty' robes were launched at a British hospital.
Patients have complained for years the traditional garments - which tie up at the rear - are undignified and leave their bottoms visible as they walk around wards.
But now North Bristol NHS Trust has introduced wraparound gowns which tie up at the sides and protect the modesty of the wearer.

'Bout time, that's all I have to say. How hard was that, really?

when i was in the hospital the nurses put 2 gowns on me, one the right way, and the other the wrong way....ghetto-fied modest gown....

Yep. Nurses have empathy and they usually handed me two. But, it's way hard to keep them sorted out and together when you're pushing an IV stand and some monitor.

We've had these in Canada for years. I don't think I've worn an open back gown for over a decade! Must be the British connection!

I am with you Miss Tia. If that's ghetto-fied modest, I am there! Unfortunately I have had two extended hospital stays in the past year and learned that if you don't get two gowns, ask. The only time I think it matters is during surgery (and giving birth) when you shouldn't be confined in a gown anyway.

Pat I can feel your pain. I don't know if they encouraged you to get up and walk, but I was and with all that crap, it is a pain in the butt to get around (no pun intended!).

I hope you are feeling better. Sorry about the impending snow (other thread) but we too will get more on top of the 20 inches from Saturday. I used to live in Erie, so I am the last person that thinks you are whining about the weather. It just drains you of every last bit of energy. My husband and I would get up an hour earlier during winter because weather was not an excuse to be late there. That takes quite a toll after a few months. Sending you positive energy to make it until Spring. Can't wait to hear about your planting plans.

I had one like those last May when I had my baby. You should've seen the nursing gown they gave me though. It was so big I am pretty sure it doubled as a big top.

I like the ones with snaps at the shoulders, makes IV's easier. I am nurse and I have seen it all, and too much I care to remember.

Old mens balls...gross!

When I was in the hospital the nurses also gave me two gowns. And just like you said Pat the IV tubes and all the other things I was hooked up to got tangled.

I don't really give a shit about my ass hanging out. What's one more ass in a hospital of thousands?

The British may have invented this particular hospital gown, but we have had wrap around gowns for a few years. In those instances where it isn't quite enough (walking a very pregnant lady to the c-section room, we do the backwards gown thing, too.
My husband's gown this morning was the old-fashioned kind. I don't think he actually had to walk anywhere, though, so he didn't flash anyone.

These have been around for a while in the north east. I also give people two gowns. Even better, are the 'johnny pants' Same material as gowns, but tie waist. I think they should be made of flannel though, at least as an option.

When I had knee surgery last September I had a gown that they hooked up to a hose and it pumped warm air inside. Strangest thing I have ever seen...but it felt really nice.

In fact I could use one of those right now...damn heater.

The gown and hose arrangement sounds like a Bair Hugger. Some of our nurse anesthetists use those in surgery. A pump and what looks like respirator hose hooked up to a very soft, lightly inflated balloon-like thingy that envelops the arms and chest. They are very comforting.
