I spent some time yesterday thinking about Katrina and watching some vids of the disaster and also looking at New Orleans now. With pride, I might add. The people of New Orleans are amazing. I just remember Katrina as one of our nations most shameful times and I think we should all be glad that George Bush and his nasty ass rich elitist family is out of the White House.I remember how much I hated Barbara Bush after Katrina. You can look up her comments HERE. You can still find videos of people's family floating dead in the water, but, you can't find Mrs. Bush making her heartless comments. Anyway, New Orleans is back. But, they won't forget and I hope the rest of us never do either.

You're right, that was heartless and horrible, and absolute proof that the Bush family was so removed from the reality of Hurricane Katrina victims that they had no hope of understanding. Even if they had been truly interested, which they weren't. He was such a poor leader. A clear case of "let them eat cake".
I'm not sure the Obamas are proving themselves much better, though. I really didn't see him doing much to show concern for the victims of the oil rig disaster. I had high hopes for him. I'm sure the learning curve is steep, but maybe he will still come through.
I hear good things about NO all the time. One of my husband's cousins moved there a couple of years ago, and loves it.
NO is back but not really, half the population never returned. The city's infrastructure is riddled. The tax base is half of its former self. The crime rate soars and murders continue unbridled. It's fun to visit if you remain in safe areas. You take your life into your own hands when you leave the confines of the tourist territory. Mitch Landrieu, the new mayor, is trying, but he inherited so much despair from years of neglect and corrupt political powers, it would take the second coming to cure the cities' woes.
I always kind of like BB. Like she was a real grandma type person. Round with white hair, like a real grandma. But I think honestly, she's getting older and just kinda what she is thinking falls outta her mouth like a gumball machine. Houston already did have an overpopulation problem and crime became a huge problem after all the refugees moved in, but it was already a really rough place. Houston interstates are a real "cluster-fu**" anyway. & more ppl jamming the roads makes it worse. But they had to go someplace! Many, many of them came here, to Indiana. They got sponsored by local churches & organizations and I think some have stayed, many have went back home to N.O. After spending a few winters in Indiana, I can't say I blame them. Better food down there too! N.O. is a fab place & will be even better!! Brad Pitt could be elected Pope of N.O. if he wanted to!!

Thank goodness for the likes of Anderson Cooper, Brian Williams, and Brad Pitt. They unselfishly put NO in the forefront so that the world could see the situation long after the waters receded.
PS: Half of old George & Barbaras clan is Mexican. So, if she was being a bit recist, it was probably not intentional. Unless she is "down with brown but black is whack" to her. Who knows. She's so old, who cares anyways?

Babs Bush was already an old lady 5 years ago and losing control of her facilties. Probably the "edit" function was one of the first to go for her. But make no mistake about it--what she said is exactly what they all think. People that are born wealthy and priviliged truly have a different mindset than the rest of us. She and her entire clan are the poster children of why we need campaign finance reform. We NEED to put an end to the practice of huge $$$ spent in order to win politcal office. We just have to come up with a more stringent requirement for public office other than wealth.
I know I have been quiet. I got some shit going on here and to put a cherry on top of this crappy sundae..I have Hurricane Earl to possibly deal with. I bought water, ice for deep freezer, and batteries yesterday. Today I am going to pick up some charcoal for the grill (if power goes out. Hubs and I are going to clean up the yard of things that can fly. If it does not come, then we did our Fall clean up early.
Pray for us all!
Heidi!!! We love you girl. Take care & hunker down & have a Hurricane Party! Been keeping you in my thoughts too.
