No mosque at Ground Zero

Because I've heard it all and I like the way he says it best.

I didn't get to listen to all of this, but I think I agree with him anyway :-)
I think I heard someone say last week that this would be compared to the KKK wanting to build a building next to a black Church. It's ridiculous.

This statement cannot become true: "crippled by political correctness with no backbone and no pride"

C'mon you guys. You need to reclaim YOUR country. I'm not a US citizen and even I agree that building the Mosque at G0 is totally rubbing salt in the wound. Politicians need to get a clue and demand and show respect for the people they represent! Doing that is like a wham bam thank you ma'am to the families of those who died. It's not even about "tolerance". Showing "tolerance" does not equal becoming a doormat. If you have been at G0 recently you know how the feeling of sadness invades your soul. I was there in 2004 and I swear I could hear the laments, the suffering and the pain of those who died. It's extremely overwhelming, I couldn't even bring myself to take a picture of it cause I felt like I would be bringing that sadness with me. It's really a big empty.

I want to laugh when I hear "religion of peace". They prefer intimidation over assimilation. This is an incredible insult. Thanks for posting this Pat.

It might be legal for them to build on that land, but is it morally and ethically correct? That would be a great big NO. If they really want to build this center, we live in a huge country. Go find somewhere else... I am normally a very tolerant person, but not on this matter.

I linked to this video a couple of weeks ago and thought his summary nailed this for what it is. I've passed it along to several people and can't believe how many were not aware of the plans to erect a mosque at ground zero or who just waved it off as inconsequential.

This breaks my heart. I have friends who are Muslim. They and their friends and relatives are wonderful, spiritual people who would sooner cut out their own hearts than cause harm to another human being. There are two billion Muslims in this world and a miniscule percentage of them are engaged in terrorism or hurtful activities. My friends love this country (they are citizens) and the attacks on 9/11 were as shocking and terrifying to them as to any other American.

There has been a mosque in the area of Ground Zero for 40 years in which they've done nothing but pray and be good neigbors to the community. They have outgrown their space and that is why they are building in that area. What exactly is the difference between them being 2 blocks away or 5 blocks, as they are now? Putting a prayer room in a community center does not make a mosque any more than putting a chapel in a hospital makes it a church. And by the way, man in the video, there is a non-denominational chapel in the United Nations building which is used by people of all faiths who work there.

I can see that most of you don't agree with me and that's fine. I will never agree that Islam is a religion based on terror; I have known too many who disprove that lie every day.

I hear hurtful things from Christians all the time. I wept when Dr. Tiller (a friend of a relative of mine) was brutally gunned down by a so-called Christian in the name of Jesus. Yet I didn't turn my back on my Christian faith because of the actions of one or more people. I wish we wouldn't judge the religion of 2 billion people based on the actions of a few.

You do realize you are not on a Christian blog, don't you? Your opinion is welcome here, but, just so you know..most of us here are not Christian.

One must visit a Muslim country to fully appreciate the ideology behind the movement.

You may know some sensitive Muslims that tolerate other religions, women having rights, freedom of expression and the right for Israel to exist. But they are not in the same Muslim world as the majority that attend Wahhabi madrassas and preach for the death of Americans and Jews and the establishment of a world caliphate.

Ask Theo van Gogh or the countless others that can't even whisper about Mohammed without being threatened with decapitation. Salman Rushdie learned a little about that also. Danny Pearl, Nick Berg, etc. Madrassas around the world preach our death all over Asia, and we keep sending them US Aid and pretend to win their hearts. You win wars by killing your enemy; period.

Mainstream Muslims are being held hostage by the extremists, and the brutal deaths in Sudan (Muslim), Somalia (Muslim), Iran (Muslim), and Yemen go by unnoticed by the UN.

What about Sunni vs Shiite killings. Iraqi Sunnis routinely kidnapped Sadr city shiite men and tortured and killed them and vice versa. All for nothing more than tribal warfare.

Torture dungeons, mass killings, hatred, prejudice and intolerance is the real message that gets out about Islam.

We need to end our dependency on foreign oil and let OPEC choke on their own petro dollars.

Oh yeah. How many Muslim countries have offered to help Pakistan with their floods?...none.

They'd rather buy Manhattan than help each other.

I don't want to visit a Muslim country. It scares the shit out of me. I get weary of explaining to people like Chrissy that I don't think all Muslims are evil. What a simplistic point of view. Gee wilikers and shucky durn. And then we get the "lesson" about not giving up our Christian faith because of some Christian radical.

Fuck me, I hate the net sometimes.

Anonymous said...

Guys, at least get the facts straight. They aren't building a mosque. Perhaps you all consider it hair-splitting, I don't know. It's a cultural center. I can't help but wonder at the outrage if it was a christian cultural center that people were protesting. I'm sure as many atrocities have been committed in the name of Christianity as Islam. And that is because as someone pointed out, it's the people not the religion. So why not some tolerance?

Heidi said...

I hate the net sometimes also.

Dirty Disher said...

Because anon, millions of Americans find it offensive and that is enough reason not to build it.

Silvia said...

First, I know I'm pedantic, but I have a hard time listening to a point of view that doesn't start from the facts. 2 blocks is not a few yards and a muslim community center is not a mosque.

Just how far is far enough? Outside of this country? 3 block? 4 blocks? Not in NYC?

I thought that freedom of religion meant any religion, not just the ones you like.

Yes, we are at war with Muslim nations. We used to be at war with the Japanese. They were considered fanatics also so we put Japanese-Americans in interment camps because they were a threat to our national security. Should we inter all the muslim-americans? Should we have our own version of the Spanish Inquisition & force them to convert?

Sorry, you just don't want them within 2 blocks of the world trade center site. Maybe we shouldn't mourn the 70 muslim lives which were lost, hey it was their own people. Maybe we shouldn't honor any of the muslim first responders either.

Anonymous said...

Just because millions of people agree with something doesn't make it right. A lot of people thought slavery was a good institution but that didn't make it so. And having ideals to aspire to like we have in this country? It's easy when nothing is going on, it's when something like this cultural center comes up that we are put to the test as to whether or not we will really stand up for what we say we do.

Dirty Disher said...

Or weather we're a bunch of patsys who agree to be doormats in the name of our own freedom of religion rights? Bullshit.

Until this post, I really had no opinion. Thanks. Now I say, fuck that mosque. Fuck it hard.

Dirty Disher said...

Also, stop comparing Islam to Christianity to me because I hate them too.

i heard my cue...

FUCK THE MOSQUE!!!

it's a rather odd location especially when they are promoting this as a place to foster understanding between cultures---and they are not taking consideration that people would object to it's location....and they don't seem to care, which doesn't bode well for them and their mission of fostering understanding....

christianity also has zealots....the ones who murder abortion dr.s, oh the crusades, and all the millions killed through the centuries for not converting and the religious wars....and in this country, the US, christians murdered indians to take over the land....

FUCK RELIGIONS!

Melissa said...

I agree with what he says (whoever he is). I fully back freedom of speech, freedom to practice one's own religion, etc..., but this goes beyond what can humanely be "stomached" by those living in NYC and a vast majority of Americans. I am not a lawyer but know that they do have a right to build a culture center/mosque so close to Ground Zero. Should it be allowed? No. How would any other culture who has been threatened, killed, tortured feel about having the symbol of those who did those atrocities plastered in front of their eyes on a daily basis feel? Yes, it has happened and still happens in many countries but does that justify the relocation of this mosque? No. Are all Muslims bad? Of course not. But it was in the name of that religion that 9/11 happened. How much more pain does one want to inflict.

Dirty Disher said...

He said he doesn't think Islam is a religion anyway, it's a hate doctrine.

CJ said...

If we citizens of this country should be more open minded and understanding of the proposed Moslem cultural center being built in the shadow of the no longer standing WTC buildings, what most people of this country consider sacred ground (no matter what religion or lack of religion)... Can we go to Mecca and build a Christian or Buddhist or Jewish or Hindu cultural center in the shadow of the Ka'ba ... Would the Muslims stand by and meekly allow this? I highly doubt they would welcome any other religion with open arms on what they consider their sacred ground.

Palmetto...I think it would be more like the KKK burning the church and then building on top of the ashes!

Jarhead...your knowledge always amazes me! I think the word "extremists" explains the situation! I never have trusted anyone who goes to extremes about anything!!!! They scare me. They will do anything---like fly airplanes into the WTC.

I really like the guy in the video.
He has a good way with words. And it does bother me that the people we elect are letting things like this happen. We need to get them out of there and start anew. We need to do something and we need to start now. When election time comes around, think before you vote and let's hope its not too late. This country is going to hell and I don't see anything good in the very near future. This is the way I fell. I have a very hopeless feeling and I wish I didn't. It makes me very sad!
Just sayin'!!!

Silvia, have you been to the Pearl Harbor memorial on Oahu? Did you happen to see the 13 story building built by kamikazes 4 blocks from the vistors center?

"Should we inter all the muslim-americans?"

No, just the violent and crazy ones, I think we still have room at Guantanamo.

I agree with Jarhead 100%. I have not physically been to the middle east, but I got a taste of it in parts of Europe, and other places I've been, and he is right on. They don't want to come here and become a part of this country, they want to come here and bend us to their will. They will never truly respect us.
I absolutely do not want that mosque built. If our elected officials had any balls at all, they would say "HELL, NO!!!!"
Years ago I dated someone who had worked in the oil fields in Saudi Arabia. He was out on a sidewalk in town during the dinner hour, and his shadow fell across a Muslim family in a restaurant. He was arrested as he was an infidel and had disrespected that family by allowing his shadow to fall on them as he walked by. He spent a month in jail for that.
They do not think the same as we do. I think the people who want to be all warm and fuzzy and encourage diversity, are deluded. Clearly, we would not be welcome to build a church in any Arab nation. They wouldn't tolerate it for a moment, so why do we have to allow them to build a mosque at freaking ground zero? It makes no sense, and it is time for the pendulum to start swinging the other way again.
If they build a mosque, you know it will be vandalized, over and over and over again. And I think it should be.
I liked this guy and the way he expressed himself. He is giving us a warning that we had best heed, for our safety, and the safety of future generations. If we allow this to happen, we can kiss our freedom and integrity good-bye, degree by degree.

A-Gran said...

Chrissy, I agree with you. At first I was against this too but the more I thought on it the more I realized that my thoughts were wrong. It is certainly a very difficult time to be Muslim in this country.

If it was meant to be a multi-denominational center; why all the secrecy about funding?, why will not one of the principals show his face?, why is there a crescent on the design and no cross, or buddha, or pyramid?-

The crusades started after the Jihad in the Holy Land, it was a response to the Muslim aggression. That is a fact and the chronological order of battles proves it.

I noticed how none of the supporters of the mosque argued my facts on the gruesome nature of radicals in Islam.

Imam Rauf consistently talks out of both sides in Arabic when he supports Hamas and Hizb-allah. He needs the money and that's how he gets it; by saying a few lines from the Qur'an and rallying the troops against the infidels.

I know good Muslims too. They stand next to you and shoot straight at the radicals that took over their religion.

Political correctness has kept this war going for 9 years. Civilian authority wants to put a nice face in war and cause "minimal after action consequence"- I say Fuck That!- give them both barrels and build a liquor store where the mosque stood.

Sally,

My ex wife's Grandfather was an Army Air Corps Bomber pilot that flew missions and was stationed in Japan as well after the war.

He said that as soon as Emperor Hirohito said "we must think the unthinkable" and surrendered; the people followed and there was peace. Maybe after we exterminate all radical Muslims, or they choose a leader that surrenders to us we can build a center that celebrates peace and understanding.

The Japanese were embarrassed by the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor because we failed to see their signs of aggression. They expected us to be ready. There was no honor in heir attack on Pearl.

The Muslim world on the other hand rejoiced at the cowardly attack on civilians. I can still see the images on tv of them burning flags and chanting "Allahu Akbar!".

I'll be the first to pray at the Christian/muslim reconciliation center in Mecca if it ever exists.

Let Yasser Arafat's widow return one of the three billion dollars he stole from the Palestinians so that they may at least have that. Muslims kill more Muslims than any other religion. case in fact; the market bombings in Iraq, and the examples I gave in the previous post.

Islam does not come form the word "peace"-it comes from "enslave"-there's another fact. If you don't become a slave to Allah, you are unclean and must die through a fatwah.

Like John Stewart says-To stop terrorism, we have to NOT watch Fox"! I never do! This is a great story. L@@K!

Again, silly pedantry but a kamikaze can't build anything because he's dead.

We can find something hateful but we're supposed to be tolerant, that's the whole point of the USA. We're supposed to be better than they are.

I was born in Italy, came here as an infant & grew up in NYC in an immigrant neighborhood(Astoria, Queens). I became a US citizen in my teens & I now work in Washington DC. I can tell you that most immigrants realize just how great a country this is. Probably more so than native born Americans & I guess that's why I want us to live up to our ideals. To show that yes! We're better than a muslim country that wouldn't allow this & would torture & kill somebody with an opposing opinion.

On a completely different note, as mayor Bloomberg was just saying, within 2 blocks of the world trade center site there are all sorts of things including porn shops.

New Yorkers are a diverse group, more religions & ethnic groups than you can possibly imagine. I was still in New York during the attack. I have relatives that barely made it out OK. I was at work listening to the news with co-workers who had a husband & a daughter who were at work that day in the world trade center (escaped unharmed).

As someone else noted. This is not decided by referendum. If rights were given out that way, blacks would still be slaves & women would still be chattel with no right to vote. (Don't think that blacks & women have finished their struggle either).

I know, get off my soapbox. This is one of those polarizing issues where nobody is going to change their minds. Our debate here is not going to influence the outcome of this situation even one iota. I do come here to listen to the diversity of opinion coming from a community of intelligent, caring individuals & I hope that you respect my opinion as well.

I think the link of the Terrorist's and Foxnews is a bit of a stretch. Fox news is a publically traded co....and if a terrorist decides to buy the majority of the stock there is nothing they can do. Open your eyes anon. & state your name. You are a narrow minded, most likely republican who can't see the forest for the trees! & I still say Geithner should be in prison. So, I am not even on the other teams side. I hate ALL shady assed politicians. And they are ALL shady! OPEN your eyeballs anon!! Dayum. Its pretty damn simple if you understand english. WTH do you think is behind all this bailout BS? The GOOD guys? LOL!!! Ain't neither side got any good guys. This country is going to hell in a hand basket. Do you even know who runs the fed? Jarhead, my point about the kamikaze building near the Pearl Harbor memorial was that it doesn't exist. And it doesn't exist because the Japanese, then or now, had more decency than to shove something like that in our faces. (just as we would never erect an american shrine at nagasaki or hiroshima) To me, the building of the mosque is the height of insensitivity and shameless celebration of muslim violence. I do not believe the muslims proposing a mosque near ground zero are moderate. I believe it is a "triumphant" mosque and is meant to symbolize their victory over us.
Maybe I need to spend more time on these posts so my meaning comes across better! I guess it's hard to read the sarcasm in type sometimes!

This country was not built on the "turn the other cheeck" moral, it was built on the "i am going to live the way i want and your not gonna' tell me how to live, and if you try to shove your bullshit beliefs down my throat, i am going to bayonet your ass back to Great Britain!" let's all be respectful of others beliefs but don't shove them down my throat when you boarded that plane screamed out to great Allah and slamed a jet plane into my country and my loved ones!
