GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Authorities say security for last weekend's canceled Quran burning at a central Florida church cost around $200,000. City officials say they expect the church to pay.
Police Maj. Rick Hanna said more than 200 officers were on duty last weekend patrolling the church, the University of Florida football game and "soft targets" like the mall. Another 160 sheriff's deputies were also working because of the planned protest at Dove World Outreach Center.
Gainesville City Manager Russ Blackburn said he doesn't know if the city has legal authority to compel the church to pay.

Holy frick. Someone do the math. 200 officers, plus 160 officers, one weekend...equals $200,000 dollahs. Wait, how many would be working anyway, we can't count them. Subtract that. Also, there is no way Terry Jones is responsible for people at football games or the mall. You have to subtract that. Whatever it is. And then...my fucking head hurts. How much do these fuckers make anyhow?
It's kind of like when they make a marijuana bust and they weigh it and say..yep, $12 million worth. And you figure out it's worth $679,000 per pound..with no bud on it. That's street value. It's always "street value" because they like the word street. It makes them sound like CSI.

Wonder what means they are going to use to make the church pay this bill. The church that is Tax Exempt!!! They don't pay any money for public services now - I'd like to see how the city/ county/state is going to get money out of them. Maybe they can auction off the church's property...
They can't take cops off of regular detail for this, so they have to use cops who are off duty. They get paid at least double time for this--it's past their set number of hours they are scheduled for. This is how they make their money. Believe me, it's not from their regular paycheck. When my husband went from a plant job to a deputy (he worked a desk), his pay was cut to 1/4 his normal take home pay. At 53, it was the only job he could find.
When the churches around here use extra detail for fairs and fund making events, they have to pay for extra detail---but they request it. I don't guess this idiot requested this extra detail, so it looks like the citizens (who had nothing to do with any of it) get to pay the bill again!!!!
It's really getting hard to be a good citizen!!!! I think I will turn ROGUE! There seems to be more money in it! And it might be fun!!!
