Im at the Iron Ranch with Shep, for a bicycle swap meet. The place is huge. The owner is the ultimate collector *cough* packrat*cough*
There's lots of cool stuff here. It's treasure hunting heaven...all kinds of old farm equipment, vintage cars that need restored, he even has this awesome steam engine that he fires up every year, powered by a steam donkey! The owner recently retired so that he can work on his restoration projects...
I will try to snap some photos with my cell and send them to you as soon as i can. I still need to get home and start getting ready for tonight's show. The ranch is about an hour and a half south of Olympia. Opening night was awesome!
We've been in the middle of home inprovement here. Last week ripped up 20+ y/o carpet downstairs and had ceramic tile intalled in the familyroom, hallway and master bath (800sft). This week will be the upstairs to include kitchen, informal dining room, foyer, hallway and main bath approx the same square footage. And in the middle of this the stove died 20+ y/o stove died. New one is being delivered Tuesday.
Now I've got all this beautiful hard surface flooring to clean and I don't do mops and the thought of all this square footage on my hands and knees ain't doin' it for me. I've been thinking about the Shark that I've seen advertized on TV. Anyone out there have one? Can anyone reccomend it? Thanks in advance for any input.
The owners of the house we are buying had a moving sale today. I went to weasel my way into the kitchen to check tile colors for a new sofa in the adjoining living room and realized that without anticipating showings and burning of the smelly candles, they have allowed their little dogs to pee on the carpet. I truly hope that when I pull up the carpet and pad, the wood floors underneath are okay :/ The good thing is that I found out they will be moved out the week before we close and I offered to pay them rent to get in a couple days early. That way we can have the carpet pulled and walls washed, etc. That will be a HUGE help on moving day :)
I have had two sharks in the less than two years. I LOVE it, but they don't have staying power, it seems. If you have a local Bed, Bath & Beyond, buy it there, because after a year of ownership, the first one died and without a receipt, my husband took it back and they replaced it, no questions asked. It was the upgraded one, so he had to pay the difference. The second one died just last week, less than a year later and he took it back, they gave him a new one and refunded back eight dollars. GREAT return policy :)
Hi, Pat I'm on call today so I've been out communing with my birds several times, and that has been fun! Unfortunately, something squeezed in a crack around the window of the coop and took the cracked Turken egg out from under Tuney. There is not a trace of it anywhere. My husband went out last night and stuffed the cracks with insulation, and today there are still two eggs, so whatever it is has been temporarily thwarted. Or maybe it was just full and didn't care. This is day thirteen out of 21-22, so I hope we don't lose any more. Procrastination is the name of the game here. I have too much stuff to do, and I get overwhelmed, and feel like I can't do any of it, so I wind up doing nothing. My husband had to be at work at six a.m. today, which is unheard of for him. It makes no sense, either, as he says that they almost never have any business until 8 a.m. or so, and that all they can do is sit around and talk or look over paperwork during the early part of the day. It also means that he will be pretty much useless when he comes home.
It was a good day today. My left foot (heel) did not hurt much at all this morning. I was thrilled. Natalie and I went running errands and stopped at a few yard sales. I found a handmade quilt for my bed last week and I found a handmade quilt for her bed today. Hers was only $8 and nothing wrong with it. It is pink and girly but she was there and she approved. Quilts like that (the heavy ones) are some toasty. Now I have to find one for Chelsea. Maybe I will be lucky next weekend. Other then that, I just pulled all of my dying tomato plants, bagged some hostas I had already cut down, and did a bit of trimming in some dead branches.
I bought some really nice tulip bulbs today. Some purple white ones and some white ones to go with. I am going to plant them tomorrow in the side bed over by my back patio.
just got home from the cleveland zoo...it was my friend's company picnic there today and we walked all over the whole thing and i am BEAT!!!! lots of walking!! very nice relaxing day!
Nothing much going on here - my daughter had her first full week in Pre-K and my son's second in 3rd grade. My daughter is beyond exhausted and, well, really cranky... So we decided to abandon all plans we had for the week-end and just relax at home. Rain season has started here and it only feels like 3 weeks ago that it had stopped... gotta love Portland ;-). Need to clean up the yard a bit but have no desire to in this weather. Will make banana bread and cookies for the kids and build a fire and watch a crappy movie after they have gone to bed. Break a leg tonight, Meissa.
How was the Zoo, Miss Tia? We have a great one here in Portland. I worked at the Rochester Zoo Society for a while and it was such fun to see all the animals each morning. Wish I could experience them in the wild but for quite a few, the zoo is one of the last bastions where you can see them.
You break a leg Meissa and show us lots of pictures!
My oldest bought a vcr about a month ago at a tag sale. The frigging thing is in great condition and came with the remote! She and Nat have become nostalgic. LOL So now when we go to yard sales, they want to pick up videos to watch on the vcr. People practically give them away. We bought a shitload of Disney for 25 cents a piece.
So they will probably be laying around on the couches tomorrow watching Pippi Longstocking and Little Mermaid. haha
it was great! i have lots and lots of pix to post on facebook but i am BEAT! lots and lots of walking!!! i'll post pix on facebook probably tomorrow and on my LJ by monday! (hopefully!)
i really enjoyed! the animals seemed well cared for, the park was clean, very spacious, very nice! no complaints from me (for a change, haha! :)
I went to yard sales today too! I have so much fun at them. I noticed after I got home that Harley is walking with a limp. Hopefully it will be better tomorrow, if not, we'll be making a trip to the vet.
My DIL's company treats them and their spouses to an all expenses paid weekend at the Abby in Geneva Wi once a year. I have my 4 year old grandson for the weekend. It's been chilly and gloomy all day here. We decided to take him to a carnival near his house. I never took my kids to neighborhood carnivals when they were little. The rides always looked unsafe to me and I didn't like the looks of some of the people working them. Years ago we had a 10 year old boy go missing from a neighborhood carnival, kidnapped by a carny worker. They found his skeleton a year later in the forest preserve. That always really stuck in my mind. Anyway, we dropped a small fortune there tonight but Joe was so happy, it was worth it.
We're planning a trip to Washington DC on October 1st for The One Nation Working Together March and a short vacation. We were going to fly but since we still need to get tuckpointing on the house we've decided to drive. 11.5 hours driving compared to 1 hour and 40 minutes flying. I'm NOT looking forward to the drive. I hope we have good weather for the rally.
Well, the rain has certainly set in. It is pouring right now, and the forecast for the next week says rainy with a brief sunny/cloudy period on Wednesday. I guess Fall has come to Oregon. Fred Meyer had inexpensive whole chickens so I did a dry rub on one and put it on the rotisserie. It was pretty good. We started a little bit of flock integration today. It was interesting to watch mild-mannered, sweet little Zip kick almost everyone's ass. Dora was too meek and mild, though, and wound up looking like she was in shock, and held by mom. It will be interesting to see if we can actually accomplish this. Heidi, I know what you mean about VCR's and tapes. We got rid of ours at maybe the third sale we had, about a month ago. It was priced dirt cheap, but people expected cheaper, yet. It felt good to get rid of all those things, and now I find myself very cautious about buying, not wanting to bring things home that we may later sell. The neighbors behind us had some kind of a Redneck morning party, and then a party in the evening, as well. As far as I know, no-one has tried to do anything to any of the dogs. I'll settle for that.
Thank God, an open post! I need some advice and quick!!!
Back story: I'm not crazy about my mother. Okay, I actually hate her (seems to be a lot of that around here). Anyway, for family harmony I "get along" with her. Meaning that I don't EVER contact her and I respond to her emails politely. If she calls I screen them just to make sure that nothing's happened to my grandparents and then pretend I didn't get the call. I'm content with the way this relationship is going....... I really do hate her but I can fake it and she usually doesn't push me too much. The rare times that she's tried to 'mother' me (shudder) I've put her back in her place.
Well, after years of telling her that her computer couldn't possibly handle the snake pit of viruses that is facebook, wouldn't you know it? The bitch sent me a friend request. I ignored it for a whole day while trying to figure out what to do. She apparently wants to stay connected with the whole damned family b/c she sent requests to my aunt and uncle and all my cousins. Even my husband who despises her! Everyone's in a tizzy b/c nobody likes her but nobody wants to be rude enough to tell her or ignore her request. So now all my cousins have added her and are whining to me about it privately and I got drunk last night and was like, "Screw it!" I never say anything interesting on there anymore anyway and I accepted it at like 4 this morning.
Today I was remorseful and I WISH I'd just pretended I never got it but it's too late and the witch is writing on my wall and adding my name on her family status (DEAR GOD, SHE'S LEARNING HOW TO USE THE DAMN THING!) She's old and retired and spends her days stalking her old friends on the internet so it's not paranoid to assume that she spent the entire day scrolling down my facebook wall.... reading.... looking at my pictures.... AHHHH!
So, my husband (who hates her) was all, "JUST DELETE HER!" so I did. And now I feel guilty for being so rude after accepting her friend request and I KNOW that this is so whiny and adolescent but HOW can I pretend I deleted her accidentally without a) hurting her feelings or b) accepting another request? I don't even want to get on facebook anymore! Advice, anyone?
Facebook scared me off recently. It knew WAY too much about me even though I gave it a misspelled last name. It was really hard to "deactivate" too..it insisted I give them a reason and then followed up with borderline harassing emails. I think it's evil. You should get a blog.
and once you delete your facebook they keep your info anyways!!! people go back after a year or so and resign up and viola! everything is back!!! that's somewhat messed up!
I think the only way to fake out FB is to have a second computer, fake name, different email addy and no email buddies listed on it - then 'maybe' FB won't know your entire life ... and use this computer for FB only. ... Yeah,I know, I'm weird :)
I love the header too. I put out my halloween flag this past week. It is a black cat sitting on top of a big pumpkin. My mother bought it for me a long time ago. It has not become sun bleached at all in the past 13 years I have had it. Isnt that weird? I started putting the yard to bed. It is going to take time. Lots to do. I have to save up some money. We have always had a carpenter bee problem in this one area near the eaves on the back of the house. We have had exterminators but nothing worked. Now I heard a woodpecker this afternoon. I scared the bejesus out of him so maybe that will be it for this season. But I see he has started poking holes in the area where the bees reside. I want the whole section pulled out, bees taken care of, and then house painted. I am a dreamer huh?
Oh, the kids got pissed at me this morning cause I am tired of their shit. It is Sunday. Do not think you are going to jump on the computer for the entire day. I want it dammit! So they both decided they were just going to leave the old witch (that is me) home all alone. Hubs is at his friend`s house watching football..So I have the whole house, computer, and big tv all to MYSELF! Yeah..I am so hurting that they left. hehehe
Yesterday was a good day at work from the standpoint that it was quiet and I was able to complete all my educational stuff on the computer. But, my friend and co-worker's 17-year-old daughter was in a rollover accident yesterday afternoon, is having an 8-hour surgery today, and will be a paraplegic. Once I got home, my mother called to say my Aunt Helen died yesterday morning. Aunt Helen was almost 94, so she lived a long, full life, but I loved her. Bereavement doesn't stretch out to aunts and uncles, so I guess I am lucky to have today and tomorrow off as usual. The consensus from those who know more than I do, is that the eggs that were stolen from under my broody were most likely taken by a large snake. I don't like snakes. I would rather have a rat or a weasel, etc. But N-o-o-o-o, I have to have a snake. Bummer of a day. Sorry to be your resident Eeyore, but that's just how I'm rollin' right now.
The vet said Harley most likely stepped on something "just right" and that's what's irritating her paw. Poor baby! I've been calling her Hop-a-long. Mean ole mama, I am. So a shot and 14 pills to take later, hopefully she's on the road to recovery!

tonya----do NOT feel guilty!!!! you HATE HER! why do you want someone you hate on your facebook?!?!?!?
BLOCK HER, just BLOCK HER from facebook! that way she can't even send you a friend request and won't even be able to see her on there!!

Thanks, it's PSP stamps, Lissa helped. I just checked mail and there are 5 from Facebook. Frickin' evil.

Thanks for the advice guys. I guess the thing to do is to just be honest with her but DAMN, I don't want any problems with that crazy woman.
