Whew. I finally got it emptied enough to show you the space I have to work with. It's bigger than it looks in these pics. My son once had a double bed up there on the right, so it's a good sized space. I think this will make a totally cool little girls room. With real stairs and safety railings, painted pink, she's gonna love it! What do you think? And what am I gonna do with all those guitars? I can't bring myself to take them over to mom's back room. I already put all my poor old dolls and holiday decorations over there. Well, I'll figure it out. Whatcha think?
That big white space is where I took down a big metal beer sign with a pin-up lady on it. LOL. Thanks, Eric. Anyone collect metal beer signs? Have I got a deal for you.

Hey Lady, how much you want for the beer sign, hmmmm? I would love to see it. Could work in my guest room.
How exciting is that loft space? Any young girl's dream is to have a cool hideaway space like that to call her own. I know you are a humble lady, but oh my stars, you are THE coolest Gramma evah! I am so glad you have Lis and she has you. Can't wait to see the finished results. Perhaps a Pantone 219 C pink? http://www.pantone.com/pages/pantone/colorfinder.aspx
Good job on the loft!!!Hope you're feeling better. Your grandbaby is a very lucky little girl to have you. Take care Marilyn
So cool!!
Hang the guitars on the wall...
my 13yo niece would love a loft room, coolest ever. I agree, invest in guitar wall hangers, they will look amazing.
She says pink and black. She thinks Paris, France is pink and black for some reason. I'll think on that.
Mary, I'll take a pic of the sign. Also have a neon filled old Seagrams sign that works. I have old junk up the ying and nary a closet in this entire house. Ridic.
The guitars have to be kept in cases. They are expensive and can't just be hung up. It's kind of a shame, but, you wouldn't hang a vintage Strat or Gibson in a kid's room. Ask a musician..he or she would have a heart attack at the mention of such a sin. LOL.
That looks like a great space for
a kids room! And paint it pink??? That will be too cool!
you've done an awesome job getting it all cleared!!
can't wait to see it finished!!!
:) I am worn out. Construction starts Thursday.
Sell the guitars to another musician who will get use out of them. Keep what you want and sell the rest. They are beautiful guitars and need to be played.
I bet you know my answer right??? :) SELL them... keep his favorite for Lis and sell the rest because the construction will cost quite a penny and so will the preparation of the room.... Lis is a growing girl and needs new clothes all the time....
Get your old dolls out of your moms house before the cats get at them.... sell them too... :) (the dolls not the cats lol)
I didn't know they were strats and gibsons.
My brothers both have guitars like that.
I really do see your delima now. If they were left to me
I could never sell them OR hang them on the wall. DD I hope my comment did not offend you.
This reminds me of Heidi. I loved that book and loved that little loft bedroom she had in her curmudgeonly Grandfather's cabin. And the cheese...and mountain air.... It will be an awesome bedroom
I was not offended by common sense. I just don't have any when it comes to Eric's guitars. I was playing the Gibson today. It's still in tune after all this time. I'll never part with them.
And hey, I'll bet I'm the only granny you know with a wah-wah peddle. Ha.
Can the guitar cases be stored under a bed?
I would have loved having that loft space as a kid. Very cool and no one else will have a place like it. I can't wait to see the after pictures.
Does your daughter have someplace safe she could store them for you? They can't go to your mother-thing.
Is a very small storage unit too expensive? You could move your dolls there too?
I would think Iowa temperature extremes in a storage unit wouldn't be good for guitars.
How high is the ceiling for the room under the loft. Could your carpenter build some type of hanging storage for the guitars on the underside of the loft floor? Only deep enough for the cases to slide in?
I know you'll find a place for the guitars. They'll definitely fit in someplace.
You can do pink and then use the black chalkboard paint on one wall..or do a square of it on each wall and put a fabric boarder around it in a zebra design or something. :)
-Miranda-
Miranda, I love that idea. Thanks.
I'll find a place for the guitars. Lissa has no interest in them right now, maybe she never will. I dunno. But, they belong here. Or with Casey.
Fun and exciting. Looking forward to the after picture.
when i have too many of the one thing i find thst if i separate them and dot them about theplace they dont seem to take up as much space. i live in a tiny house. that space looks awesome, lissa is going to love it!
That is gonna be one cool loft! Pink and Black will be pretty cool too.
Lis is a lucky girl and Mary_Mary is so right - Coolest Gramma Ever
xx
@ Miranda: That blackboard paint rocks! My best friend and her hubbie have one wall of their kitchen painted with it;perfect for writing lists, leaving notes, impulsive doodling and random art. Great idea for Lis's new digs.
Pat,
Make you sure you check into the chalkboard paint. Certain brands don't work so well, and are just plain frustrating to use. Invest in a high quality CB paint if this is what you choose to do. Maybe have carpenter put in some canned lights on ceiling for good lightening as well.
Also-I agree about getting the guitar's to a musician who would love them. Maybe keep one.
You think your sign is worth $$$$, my dead BIL's old Fender paid for the nephew's first car. Not a brandy new one, but a great first car.
I say think about that. Put the money in a trust for Lis, or use it to help the 2 of you.
thanks an excellent idea lia, spreading the guitars around!!
It already has can lights up there. I've decided to sell my guitar. That will pay for paint and stuff.

this website is cool. if ya ever wish to know the origin of your guitars. it tells you what year factory and woods where used in the build. not always 100% but a neat page none the less. i agree keep them in the cases.
Thank you! Maybe I can find mine on there. Eric had a good acoustic 6 string in his collection. I figure I can keep that and get rid of mine, which is a nice one too.
always willing to help. if your guitar isn't listed at said site i am willing to research it for you.it's surprising what things go for these days. if that wha pedal says thomas organ company under it than you have a jem that would cause a ebay shoot out.
