Beyonce at Target

Bouncie headed to the hat department. I couldn't care less, but, it made me wonder, if I was as rich as her, would I still shop in chain stores? We were in a Wal-Mart yesterday and I remember thinking, wouldn't it be nice to be filthy rich for a day and just fill the cart with any nonsense that caught my eye? I saw some cute shirts, but, when you buy most everything you actually need at yard sales and junk shops, it's hard to justify buying anything retail. Besides, new stuff feels good for a day, then it just becomes old junk you don't really need. The thrill doesn't last long. Where as old unique stuff you find thrills you forever because no one else has it. I ended up buying an aquarium filter. There's no pet supplies where I live. There's actually not much of anything where I live. BeyoncĂ© was in a Houston, Texas Target. Houston is a nice city actually and there's a lot of classy places to shop, even if it is in Texas. So, she goes to Target. It just shows how down to Earth and normal she is, right? Riiiiiiiiiight.

My question is, if you were as rich as Bouncie, would you still shop at Targe'e and Wallyworld? I dunno, I suffered from sensory overload in there yesterday. There was just too much shit, and too many people. There were no windows, so I remember thinking, geez, if there was a fire in the front, everyone in back would die. Which is how I think. Always looking for an escape route. And there wasn't one. Shopping at designer boutiques would be pretty nice. I doubt I could pass up a good flea market no matter how rich and famous I was. Bargain hunting is an addiction. There are no bargains in chain stores. Unless they're made by exploited children in China. Makes me wonder what Bouncie was up to. She aint Britney Spears. Does it make me a bad person to sort of hope she got head lice from those hats? When you're shopping for fun, where is your fav place to go? What was the best bargain you ever got? I got a piano for a dollar once. It was a nice one too.

  1. Maybe she went into Target for diapers and then as I and others do - walk out having spent $100 bucks in 2 bags. Which is why I rarely go. Far too easy to indulge.
I love Home Goods store! It's like a Ross or Marshalls - but no apparel, more furniture, bathroom and kitchen wares. I found 2 very large ceramic planters for less than half of what it costs at a garden store. Think I paid more for the soil and plants that I put in them.
I understand about feeling suffocated in some stores. Burlington Coat Factory is the worst!

  2. I like home goods stores. I like looking. I like light fixture stores. So weird. I was looking for flower pots yesterday, but, they didn't have any giant ones. We did find an oddball garden pottery store in one small village, but, it wasn't open. I want to check that one out sometime.

  3. I want to find a big salvage yard and look for odd yard stuff in the junk. I love junk yards. I love dumps too.

  4. There's big money there. Gas, oil, cattle, shipping. So, there's high dollar shopping all over that state. So don't think they are a bunch of redneck hicks. They are not. Think JR Ewing and Dallas. That's the kind of money that's down there. It's pretty fabulous. In Houston , the Hyatt actually has a glass elevator that takes their patrons right into the lobby of Neiman Marcus in the galleria, the largest shopping mall in texas. You see ppl shopping in their fancy pj's. these ppl are not hicks, by any means. Fascinating state. Love it there. Lovely people.

  6. I generally hate shopping but do think Cost Plus World Market is fun. It's like a Pier One only with better deals--and more of them. I also love Ikea, and I enjoy CostCo.

Oh and I agree with you about Texas Pat. Blech.

  8. Texas is beautiful, some parts are dry and hard, dusty. Mesquite trees and crab grass. But the hill country and coasts are great places to love. We moved tho when we had kids and found out Spanish was mandatory for teachers and our kids would be required to know Spanish and teachers would be teaching in Spanish. So, we didnt care for that. But loved the coast.

  9. I liked the hill country in Texas. What I like about Texas is that most of it is sooooo different than where I live. But then, most places are.

  10. I'd rather shop at privately owned stores so money can go back into the pocket of the 'little guy.' Lucky that LA has so much to choose from in that vein. I do like Cost Plus for their imported stuff from the UK and Italy.
I agree;Burlington Coat Factory blows and they got busted for buying and selling coats made from dog and cat fur from you guessed it, that shit hole China. Hate them.

  11. I think that if I was rich, I would still shop pretty much the same places, because that has been my pattern for so many years. Not having had a lot of money, I might try to shop fancier places, but I can picture myself feeling guilty for spending more, if that makes sense.
The older I get, the more I appreciate nice crystal. I never did when I was younger, but now I look for it at every garage or yard sale.
Last year I went to a huge (usually around 100 sale) neighborhood garage/yard sale in our historic district. I picked up a pretty, small bowl that looked like nice crystal. I also picked up a woven basket that had chickens in a metal strip on the basket. It had a bent, metal rim on the bottom, but having chickens on it, I couldn't pass it up. I asked how much for those two items, as they were not priced. The woman looked at the little bowl, and waved dismissively as she said "oh, that! 10 cents." A little stunned, I said, okay, how much for the basket. She said 50 cents for that. I paid for my items, and was telling my husband about the sale in the car when I found the acid-etched mark on the bowl that said Waterford. Not a nick scratch or flea bite anywhere.
It's certainly not as good a find as your piano, but I still can't believe I got that bowl for 10 cents. That buy has kept me searching for the next bit of crystal.
