Crazy mater patch

The Tomatos are crazy now, they always get crazy when it gets hot here. They are taller than me and well on their way to the 12 foot high or higher area of their cycle. People who try and control a big patch of Tomatos at this time of year are like those goof balls who climb a ladder to clean their light fixtures every day..they're just nuts and I have better things to do. I think it's stupid to prune Tomatos too. I see no sense in it. I think you just have to plant them where they can go nuts and give up on control in July. They are producing masses of fruit and it's fun to fight through them hunting all of it. I tried everything to tie them up, and it helped, but, the growth is so massive and fast now, I'd have to be on it every single day. Not my cup of tea. I just mow around them and call it good. They have no weeds, the thick Tomato's shade out the weeds.

My oldest is having a problem with her community garden neighbor`s tomatoes. They never even tried to tie them up even from the beginning. Now they are totally encroaching on her plot and making it difficult for her plants to grow. She wants me to bring some twine so we can gently pull them back a bit.
I am with you on the sense that you just have to let them do what they do. But in this instance, there needs to be some boundaries. Her corn is never gonna grow if this person`s tomato plants completely take over her plot.

I have never in my life seen a 12' tall tomato plant. Ours at their best go maybe 4'. You live in the land of giant produce producers...

Nina, in Iowa I've seen them get 15' or higher.

Heidi, that's call greed and laziness on the neighbors part. Tell your daughter to cut the offending parts on her plot off! Fuck people like that.
