Monday the 13th

Fighting over a baby bottle. They only get the ba-ba with their late night feedings now. They are really healthy and doing well. I call the boy 'Huffel-Puff'' because he huffs and growls still. He's just scared sometimes. He doesn't bite hard. His sister, I call 'Velcro' because she is lovey dovey and it feels like Velcro when I pry her off me. They both climb my leg when we go outside.

And the winner is....little sister. She is so aggressive with him over food. Which is the opposite of when  I first got them. I guess she got tired of being pushed around.

Weaning...they're taking to solid food really well. The favorite by far is boiled eggs with formula poured over it. They also love dry cat food and peanut butter cookies.

They are just the age to start real playing. They have such fun chasing the cleaning rag and capturing it when I wipe out the cage. We play tug of war and hand wrestling with much humping, jumping and growling. This is such a fun stage in their development. Crabbie said maybe I'm the Coon whisperer. I said, I think I am, 'cause I love everything about them and I understand what they say. I think he was making fun of me, but, it went over my head. He still won't hold them. Not even the tame little girl.

So, what are you  up to?

  1. They are sooooo cute. I always want one when I see them, but I know they are more work than I have patience for.

Today was Puppy's spa day. He loves to go to the vet's. When I turned off the highway to the street that the office is on, he started going crazy. He loves seeing and smelling all the other animals. His skin is doing real well on prednisone. I hate having to go that route, but it is the only thing that seems to help. He's looking good. We are trying to lower the mg. to see what he will be able to stay on.

Is Crabbie wearing overalls and a John Deere hat yet? I can just see him with a piece of wheat in his mouth. You need to find a cow for him to milk.

  2. Jane, I'm glad your Puppy's skin is doing better and that he is in good spirits. I have used prednisone on both doggies over here and when on the higher doses, the younger one is up a lot at night. It gets old fast.
I love the pictures and your descriptions of what your baby coons are up to, Pat. They are so cute! Still just a little scary to me, for some reason, though. I am glad that there are "coon whisperers" like you, who can understand these little babies and really nurture their little spirits.
My first day off after three on. Hanging out in my jammies in the afternoon. I have an appointment at 3, and will need to leave about 2, so I am clearly dawdling. It's not that I don't want to go, it's just that I am tired and stressed about the refinance, which may finish up on Friday (my anniversary), the stress on my son in his new job, my work situation, etc.
Hi, Crabbie! Loving Jane's vision of you in overalls and a John Deere hat.

  3. I'm trying to do some maintenance around the house. ATM I'm sanding down my wooden kitchen bench top so that I can re-varnish it. A job that I've been putting off for years because I hate sanding! It's so hard! Worse than cleaning grease off surfaces. It makes my arm so tired, and if you use a sander you end up with a fine layer of dust everywhere. Plus I've injured my left shoulder so can only use my right arm. Ghaaa! Still, once it's done I'll be very full of myself. The Coons are adorable!

  4. Coons are hungry and my face is on the menu. My face with a side of garbage.

  5. Sorry Dan. We have a coyote or two in the hood. I guess the cats and small dogs are on their way out. I heard from a number of people about the coyotes but didn't believe it until I heard it from some people who can be relied upon to know a coyote from a dog. The world is full of people who are WAY off base with identifying one animal type from another.

I'm still trying to attack humming birds in the front and have a seed bird feeder on the side of the house. No dice anywhere. I got a new feeder for the seed birds and new seed that I will put up today. In front I have a humming bird feeder and a fountain and some plants to attract humming birds. No dice. It's kind of pitiful really.

I gave one humming bird feeder to a neighbor who has lots of them in his yard. He also has seed birds who are downright aggressive now. If seed gets low they hang on his window looking in and chirping "hey Jack, we're getting low, get your butt out here with some fresh food"

Mikey goes in their house if they have their door open. He is welcomed there. Usually he is out to see dogs, and they don't have any, but really welcome him. He has his own dog life and I'm so happy to share it.

  6. Border, I hope you mean to "atrack" hummingbirds and not "attack" them. But that image is funny.

I know it is hot everywhere right now. But damn, it is just too hot here. The heat index for us today is 110. I'm so afraid my a/c will go out. From what I hear on the news, there are waiting lines for a/c service and it's hard to find someone in this small town anyway.

Puppy is getting used to this area. At first when we would go out, he would want to roam everywhere. I can't blame him, he's never had so many different things to smell---horses, goats, ducks, chickens, pot belly pigs, other dogs and many cats. His nose is working overtime. I'm very careful of where he goes. There is a highway about a block or two away. I try to keep him from going that way. So far he has been pretty good about it, but it only takes one time. So it does make me nervous.

Let me see if I can go find some hummingbirds to attack!

  7. So Jane, hahaha yep you got my typo. I have been attacked by a hummingbird, tho, or it felt like it because it flew so fast in front of my nose I couldn't even see it. The guy I was walking next to told me what it was.

My new bird feeder with the seed is a HIT!!!! Finally got them. No hummingbirds in the front where I also have plants to attract them as well as the fountain that set me back more than I intended because I had to hire a guy to hook it up.

Went to an Irish Fair today. Stayed only about 3 hours, saw border collies herding, which made me miss mine, and saw a lot of Irish Wolfhounds (sweet little things) and had a great icy, listened to music, saw my bagpipers, got a cheap ring, etc. With bad back, I put on pain patches first, so that helped, but after a couple of hours I felt like I was a walking leaning tower of Pisa. Came home, neighbors came over cuz they didn't see me for a couple of days and check to make sure I didn't die and Mikey here without food. Nice of them to do that. They called and texted, but can hear the phone with the bagpipes playing. Not terribly hot today. Supposed to be really hot here the next few days. The Fair location was a good 5-8 degrees higher than here with less breeze, and my inland cousins and friends are 15 up to 30 degrees hotter. Which is why I don't go to their houses. Mikey would love the walks with all the smells. When we walk here I usually don't have him on leash so he can investigate and see who all has been out and about. The closer we get the 4th, tho, the more likely he'll be on leash even on our neighborhood walks. I'll just give him lots of leeway.

  9. I'm glad everyone is doing okay 'specially those of us suffering the ungodly heat. Please remember to leave some water out for the critters. I know they appreciate it. I have a big bowl on the porch and it's empty every morning. Today it's finally cooler, stor4my out. Crabbie is excited to maybe see his first tornado. He's out walking in it. Doh. I have new coon pics to post, they are growing FAST. Also don't attack the humming birds. Heh.

  10. Full disclosure: It looked like it was going to storm but I needed more beer. I chanced it. I'm okay.
