Hey, what's up?

Hey, what's going on? They finally came and took that tree out, just in time. I got a 5 day migraine that did me in and we got one hell of a storm. It was scary, the wind blew so hard my metal lawn chairs were going down the icy street and I had to chase them. I brought my gross garbage cans into the house and even cement stuff wasn't safe. It took one of my heavy bird baths and tossed it. It broke and so did a lot of other lawn ornaments. Oh, well. That's Iowa Winter. That cold is scary too. It's finally over and things are cleaned up and back to normal. I took that photo from my back deck. Now, with that tree taken care of, there will be a little sun near the deck for planting. I like shade plants, but, I really didn't want the whole back yard in shade plants. I'm so glad they got it down before the storm or I probably would have lost the whole back of my house.

$20 bucks for that 'as seen on tv' toy. Chi Chi killed it in 5 minutes, then he was bored and just sat there letting the feather slap him in the face. That's his 'I am bored' face. He turned out to be a pretty cat, didn't he? He's a very nice, sweet cat, but, he's odd. He likes sleeping on a plastic bag. I'm going to try and make him a bed or rug of the bags because he loves them so much. He sniffs them and purrs on them and snoozes on one I leave by the sofa for him. It's weird that he's sort of obsessed with them though, isn't it?

I know I haven't been on here in awhile and I apologize. I just felt like shit for a week and also had to get some shit worked out around Guntown. Some shit went down, no one was hurt, but, things had to be done and said. I told you about that crack house, but, that was a tip of a bigger iceburg, so I went to the people who could clean this shit up and I am not talking about just that house. Lissa got up in the middle of the night last week and said, 'Grandma, wtf? Why is our house full of Hell's Angels'. I said, 'What? I know people.'  I told her later that yeah, they wear patches, but, they aren't Angels. Close, but, no cigar, kid. Anyhow, when the pups go astray, you have to call in the Big Dogs. When people get careless around here, you have to reign things in. I should not have to worry about meth explosions and kid fuckers. So, there will be several houses available for rent now. It's fucking done and yeah, grandma knows people. Sometimes, most of the time actually, for me, the protection I need comes from sources best not talked about. I know who I trust and it aint the cops. Guntown needed a good cleaning. It's about other people's protection too. I don't know every detail. I realized a long time ago, that you only need to know the things you need to know. Things will get better around here.

Indie's favorite spot, the front window. Or the dyer, he loves the dryer. Oh! I forgot to tell you, I found a great home for Marvin Gaye and he's very loved and happy. Now, I can work on taming down his brother, Morris Day. Two cats are enough for me, but, I'm up for helping some more temporarily. The peeing and spraying has stopped. It's a good thing. But, I noticed the other day that one of them peed on my purse. That's nasty and I didn't notice it until I was at the store. I hope no one else smelled it, but, they probably did. How embarrassing.

My two cause enough trouble, but, with Marvin Gaye gone, at least I am piss free. I don't know why I optimistically put things in the windows, when I know they'll fuck them up. But, I do. They're home wreckers who leave hair all over everything. Sometimes they entertain me though. How are you guys doing?

The big storm predicted for my area never materialized. This winter has been pretty uneventful, which I can live with. I ran errands last night and stopped at the mall to check out end of season coats. I found an off white coat, made of the material you see those super soft fuzzy, furry blankets made of. Marked down from 118 to 23. My girls think I bought it as a joke and I will play along. I won't tell them that I had the woman cut the tag off so I could wear it out of the store. Got sideswiped on the way home. Traveling on the highway at 65mph and all the sudden the jeep traveling along side us gets closer and closer and gives us a little rub. I about shit myself, thank god I wasn't driving. I don't think she even knew she did it, or so she told the cops that were waiting for her after my 911 call. Sixteen years old. Want to bet she was texting? Now I think I have a stomach bug and have to attend a dinner tonight. Maybe I'll wear my new coat. I feel like Janis Joplin, but with better hair. You have to admit, that wouldn't be hard.

Chichi looks like a Maine Coon. I have two of them. Princess, my old gal, likes to nuzzle plastic bags. When I go shopping, she follows me into the kitchen and rubs her face up against the bags. Cats are strange.
Went back to my old job managing a small diner. It's a lot better than it used to be since the owner cleaned house of all the shit employees while I was gone.
Got 20" of snow over the weekend. Winter in Colorado is fun! Iowa winters suck.
Glad you are feeling better.

i'm so glad you are ok. I was afraid you might have fallen. Sorry about the migraine though. I haven't been doing anything but taking Mikey out to play a few times a week. He needs to really run and play. Walks are fine, but doesn't do anything for his energy level. I wish I had 10% of his energy. We do dog park and his day care so he gets many other dogs to interact with. Weather here is beautiful. It will get windy and stormy again, but this week is great. Doesn't do me any good because I feel like shit and don't get anything done anyway. I need a keeper.

Hey Pat, can you block the sick fuck who posted a minute before I did? Jackass.

Thank you for getting rid of A-hole. Forgot to mention I love it when they love a toy so much they destroy it. At least he still has a feather. And it is amazing how they like to lie on paper or plastic. How about bubble wrap? It would pop all night, give him something else to do.

MORRIS DAY!! I love it! Now I will have "Jungle Love" in my head all day.

We usually have horrible winters (Canada) but this year has been mild for us, and I will not complain. Have had my fill of -20c days and snow so frozen you can't shovel it.

Shade plants are nice, but its nice to have something other than full shade gardens. Can't wait to see what you do with your gardens this spring.

Angie, damn, that sounds scary, fucking kids with phones driving cars..jesus. I'll probably die of a heart attack when Lis starts driving. I'm, glad the storm missed you, it was really frightening here. I spent a bad night with ice and howling wind. I like storms, but, not that kind.

Also, that coat sounds like one I have and love. Yeah, Janis needed hair help. She had one good hair year that I remember, it was when those nudes were taken. She looked good.

Diana, he does look Maine. He is so soft, Casey J says he's like petting a cloud. He likes to get in my face though and I'm slightly allergic. Indie won't allow it much though. He thinks he owns me. I spent a couple of weeks, alone in the Colorado wilderness once, during Winter and was shocked at how different the cold and snow is there. It's dryer, so it's so fucking nice. Iowa cold is dense bone cold and scary. Man, given a choice, it wouldn't be here.

Border, I think of you and pretty Mikey a lot. You don't need a fucking keeper, you have Mikey. I didn't see the sick fuck, it must have gone to spam. I just saw another one though and deleted it. We all know where the troll problem comes from and they should be afraid. They have no idea who I am. You can't get my info from the fucking court house. They make me laugh at their naivety. That shit is dangerous.

Hi ya, Pickles, good to hear from you. I have all of Motown in my yard, ha! I am going through them one at a time, as I can afford it and finding them homes. It's my way of helping, since I had to decide against the Humane Society. Which makes me sad, but, they were wrong in my opinion.

Jarhead, I hope you see this. I saw you on another post. I'm having touble posting (crummy mouse and keyboard and a long drive to replace), but, I read your comment and I am so fucking glad to see you here. I missed your level head and air of..protection.

Hi Pat :)
I've been absent for a while.
But I've read most of your posts and caught up now.
Loved the whole section of time where you were raising the chickens and
the cute lil racoon. So happy that he's out on his own !
Glad to read that you've settled in to your new home.
Also sounds like it has a really good vibe /energy.
Whilst reading the past posts I've caught a glimpse of bohemian moon ( about a year ago ) ,
and just recently in the Bernie sanders post saw jarheads comment. So I thought I'd say hello :)
Sorry about all the snow in Iowa.

Kiki :)

P. S. Please say hello to Jane in LA :) & give my regards to Christina :)

I just got finished watching the Super Bowl. I love Peyton Manning and I'm glad to see the Broncos won. But I was disappointed in the commercials. Where are the Budweiser commercials we have come to love? Guess I'll turn to Flea Market Flip. Wait, Puppy Bowl VII is on. Gotta watch some of that. It's the Fluffs Vs. the Ruffs. I want them all.

Pat, glad to see things are FAIRLY normal on your end. I was afraid the weather had gotten you down.

I was in shock when I saw Kiki and Jarhead. Hey to both of you! What have you 2 been up to? I've missed both of you.

I"ve got to go pack for NYC---leaving Tues. morning early---too damn early. I haven't done a thing. But I did buy some thermal underwear. A friend said I should bring rain boots. I'll have to get them there. I'm really not excited about going somewhere that I have to wear rain boots and thermal underwear. I truly believe my sister's illness is making her nuts. But if I don't go, she will go by herself and I don't want that. But I am worried about my cats. They will be alone for a week. I'll leave more than enough dry food for them, a couple of water reservoirs, 3 large litter boxes and they have their cat door to come and go, but last time I went somewhere, they were pissed off at me and wouldn't have a thing to do with for days. Cats can be bitchy.

Pat, have you seen any sign of Tooney? Any tracks in the snow? I'm glad Marvin Gay got a good home.

Christina, hang in there. Lia, same to you. What's the word---shitheadedness!

Hi Jane ;) I miss u too.
Have a great time in the big apple!
Can't wait to hear your report on NYC when you get back.
Ave fun with your sister.

Kiki :)

Jane said...

Amen and Hallelujah!!! I think I've made my sister see reason. I also made her watch the weather channel. I'm glad I waited to pack. I have been following this weather for a week. There's even a cruise ship caught in hurricane like wind and waves.

I also saw that Iowa is getting sacked. Sorry Pat! Put on your long wool underwear and keep warm.

Looks like we are going to have some sunny but chilly weather. I can't complain.

Diana said...

We lived in Iowa from 98-03. That last winter there, in Collins,IA was the worst. We moved due to the fact that I didn't think that my body could take another winter. So many aches and pains. The snow is different here and we only get a week or two of "Chicago Cold". And very few aches and pains.

My kitten Rocky is a little younger than Chi Chi and not quite as fluffy as him. She likes to drop her toy mice in the water bowl and bring them to me while I'm sleeping or drop them in my purse.

Glad you did something about that house. Who knows what kind of terrible things that took place there.

I'm so glad that Peyton Manning gets to go out on top. Even though he had a shit season, he deserved the win.

I was wondering if you'd seen Tooney as well. Let's hope the groundhog was right and spring comes early. Can't wait to see how lovely your sweet house looks once you start gardening.

Hi Pat. I was working in the Middle East for a couple of years and just got back Stateside, but it sounds like you have been just as busy keeping order in your neck-of-the-woods. Your cats do look good. One of the strays that I adopted had a thing for plastic bags also. He was a fighter though and attacked my brother one night when he moved him from his sleeping spot. The damage a 10 pound cat can do is a scary thing to witness. I'd hate to have to deal with a larger cat in the wild.

i will be here for a couple of months and then I'm heading back for an extended stay in Jordan (hopefully there and not anyplace else). I miss bacon, bbq, Scotch and a good night's sleep, so I'm catching up on all those things and more.....

Anyway. I'll be in touch.

Hi Kiki!! long time! I thought about Velvet and wondered about your current running partner. I hope you are doing well and enjoying that Canada weather. Read anything good lately?. You must be close to having a Dr in the family. My daughter is still in school at George Washington.

Need a good Lindsay Lohan post for old times sake!..ha ha What a mess.

Wow, good call on the tree.

Maybe a little crochet rug out of plastic bags? It would be sturdy. My cat only licks them, lol.

And I second Jarhead's suggestion for a Lindsay Lohan post, lol!

Jarhead, maybe you will be home long enough to use that pizza oven. Has it ever been christened? I thought you had retired at one point. Some people just can't do retirement. There's a fine art to sitting around and doing nothing. (I'm quite accomplished at it.)

When you do go back, be careful.

Kiki, called the trip off this morning. There is a storm coming and a blizzard. I've been watching Accu-Weather for a week and really bad weather was predicted. I finally convinced my sister this morning. I'm sure she will figure out somewhere else to go. My choice is Italy in April. We'll see.

Hi,

Jane, the pizza oven dome cracked!. I don't follow directions...ever, so it may have gotten too hot and did not cure, but we got a "Green Egg" and it makes great pizza and is decent smoker for brisket and pork ribs, so that's that.

You all would not believe how popular Lindsay Lohan is among young Arabs. She is on everyone's smartphone and they ask if I know her almost immediately after knowing I'm American. She has taken the place of Kim Kardashian in the filthy minds of frustrated youth, and she also disgraces the pages of the British rags that they get their hands on. Soccer and Lindsay Lohan was the topic of conversation whenever down time came around.

Well, Mardi Gras is over as of midnight tonight. And I haven't had one bite of KIng Cake. That almost puts me in a panic. Some places will make them for a few more weeks. Helps to wean the cravings for some people. I'm starting to have those last minute cravings.

E., my uncle has a green egg and he really likes it. They seem to go over big down here. If Pat had what's left of that oven, she could probably make a nice yard decoration. I'm not surprised you didn't follow directions for the oven. I don't think you are able to hold still long enough to read the directions. You are a man-on-the-move.

And I will take Lindsey over any Kardashian any day. Lindsey seems to be cleaning up her act. Looks like her time on the London stage may have done her good.

Kiki, did you get a new running mate? Our Puppy (a.k.a. Reef) is starting to show his age. It really makes me sad.

Hang in there Pat and take care of yourself. I've been thinking about your cold bedroom situation. If you bedroom backs your living room, could you put your wood stove on that wall and run a vent to your bedroom? That way when the power goes out, you would have at least 2 rooms you could keep warm.

Jane - we took Baby Billy to New Orleans 2 weekends ago and took him to his first Mardi Gras parade. He loved it. He loved shouting "Throw me something mister!" And we took him to Barkus in the Quarter and he loved seeing all the dogs. Then we waited in the longest line to get the best king cake. My mil ships them to us every year. So good. My favorite is pecan praline.

DD - did you see Teresa on Watch What Happens Live?! She's back and she's written a book and she's already filming for Housewives!

Hi, everyone! It's nice to see so many commenting here again!
I am off on-call today, and my hands are so much better that I am rooting through stuff and will take one large box and four garbage bags full to Goodwill shortly. I need to do this every day for awhile. George left so much crap here it's unbelievable. Time to get rid of all of it, and the other stuff that is mine, that I will not be using. It's actually very liberating, though sometimes I feel very guilty. Somehow guilt from whatever nonsensical origin, makes me want to keep things. For the most part I am able to deal with it. I had such a huge number of kitchen implements, it was crazy. I made my peace by starting a box for Andy for when he moves out, and had him involved in the process. I also donated a bunch. Even if I have frequent family dinners, (which I do plan) it is waaaaaay too much for me. So, out it goes. Lots of clothes that didn't fit that well, but I wore them anyway. No more. They are moving on.
It is absolutely mind-blowing to be returning to normal, non-painful feeling in my hands. I am able to do so much more than I was for months.
Butthead is coming over tomorrow to fix up the Ford for sale, and I guess, also the trailer. Awesome. As in. . . not.

Erin, I'm so glad Baby Billy saw his first parade. That's where all the fun is---watching the kids watching the parades. AND he got to see Barkus! I know he had fun at that. How old is Billy now? He must be quit the little man! And I agree the best King Cake is the pecan praline. But I like it w/o the sugar on top just the icing. For some reason, I don't like that gritty feeling from the sugar.

Christina, glad BUTTHEAD finally is taking care of business. That's a good move to put aside things that Andy will surely need when he is on his own. And I understand the guilt feeling. I still have it. I just started over with mostly new stuffwhen I moved. My son stayed in the house longer than I did and then he moved into his great-great aunt's house which was fully furnished. I feel guilty because I know he is over whelmed by so much stuff. I did try to help him (once), but soon found out we could not decide on what needed to go and what needed to stay. We get along much better if we don't see each other too often.

Pat, I hope the only reason you are not on is because of the chilly bedroom and that you are not under the weather. Keep warm and well.

Gawd, I want a pecan praline king cake. Too late now.

Christina good to read your hands are feeling better now.
Sorry about your ex still hanging about like frozen molasses.

Jane. Mardi GRAS came early this year and passed by quickly enough to not get a king cake !

Pat hope you're just resting and staying cozy inside watching movies and cuddling with your kittykats.
There's another snow storm headed towards us. Take care.

Hi Pat,

Hope you are ok. Hello Cut on the diagonal, nice to be back home fore a time.

I have been catching up with friends and family. A friend from the Marine Corps was married a week ago and we had a proper celebration pre and post nuptials.
A woman I dated almost ten years ago (wow) was there as a guest and we got to catch up and hit-it-off well. I was not the easiest guy to get along with when we dated, but I learned a few things about life and love and relationships during the last decade and she said she could tell. When guys are alone all we talk about is ( you all can imagine without me having to say it), so if I think about it as a form of relationship theory, I'd say that it was successful in making me think about what is important and what is selfish in the way I approached past affairs. She is easy to talk to and since there's history between us, there is a also a mutual ease and comfort physically. We have been together all week!.
I'll be in touch.
