The funeral of James Brown is worth a post. The turn out was huge. James was carried though Harlem by white horses. People wept openly as they glimpsed his shining gold casket. He looked peaceful as he was laid out in the famous Apollo Theatre (NY city) , where he once reigned supreme. Dressed in royal blue with a tasteful amount of sparkles befitting a legend, The Godfather Of Soul will be layed to rest in his home state of Georgia.

Residents and city officials in Augusta (Ga.) recalled Brown fondly, saying his legacy will endure in their community. His annual toy drive gave Christmas gifts to hundreds of needy children, and his yearly turkey giveaway provided more than 1,000 impoverished families with a Thanksgiving dinner. They plan on continuing his charity work.

His "widow", Tomi Rae Hynie, was shocked to find herself locked out of the mansion she shared with James Brown. Browns lawyer, Buddy Dallas, explains this as "appropriate legal protocal," since Hynie and Brown were not legally married. The two actually DID marry once, but, Tomi Rae was still married to someone else and so the marriage to Brown was not legal. Even though she later annulled the earlier marriage, he claimed another ceremony was never arranged.
But Ms Hynie has argued that she had a legal right to live in the house and claims she has documentation proving that the couple's marriage was legal.

BUT, Hynie lived with Brown for years and according to her, she took care of him, gave him his insulin shots and bore him a son (now 5 years old.) She says..

"He was a difficult man to live with, but he was a great man," she said. "I was the only one who could handle James."

If she's telling the truth, and it looks good to me, then I call "legal protocol", just plain lawyer bullshit. You have to wonder just what the hell is going on here? Is the lawyer and his firm (or some of J.B.s family) trying to pull a fast one, or did James Brown secretly tell them something none of us have heard yet? It'll be an interesting story to watch.

By the way, Tomi Rae owns another house, herself, not far from the mansion. So, however this turns out, she and her son are not homeless.

if a couple resides together unmarried for over five years, isnt it considered a commonlaw marriage? sounds like legal bullshit to me. JB's lawyers are just trying to get as much as they can now that he is dead.

It varies from state to state, I think. But, I think she'll get some bucks..it only seems fair.

if she doesnt, her child will. id love to see every cent james had be set into a trust controlled by the mother. thats the only right thing to do, anyways. that way he could get a good education, and not do drugs or be shot at while running from the law or have to do time in jail. the mother should control it, but not be allowed to out and out spend everything.

I think she will have a war on her hands. I beleive too she is entitled to some, but I will beleive it when I see it happening.
