The child is actually smilng and looking quite happy. Well, Tom will take care of that. He can't have her feeling happy and good about herself, because, I am sure his manipulative, controlling parenting is not the cause of all the joy. He will wipe the smile off her face before dinner!
she is probably smiling cuz she spent some time with Nicole. She is complaining to Tom that she doesn't get to see her mother much. Yup Tom can try and brainwash them all he wants, but she is growing up and I bet you she will be out of that house sooner then later. (hopefully wanting to live with Nicole)
