In the "old days" they were always looking at each other at red carpet events. Now they look past each other at anyone else. The rest of the photos showed more of the same. They pay no more attention to each other than a handbag or tie.

Maybe they are tired of being judged no matter what they do. All couples when they are together for a while they don't always hang off each other. It's like people are constantly looking for something wrong. Do they look for something right with them? Ever?
I think it is normal for couples who have been together for a while to have unspoken conversation, and show interests outside their "one-ness" (like Eliza said). I am no fan of either of these people, but they do look wonderful.
