Can Rihanna sing?
I had to go find out, because I'm old and grouchy and I don't listen to most of this crap..turns out, NO, she can't sing. She's just another slick sex product produced by some moguel for instant monetary gratification. I'm sick of "artists" who's talent is looking good on film. In two years Rihanna will marry either a back up dancer or her manager/record producer, pop out a couple of spoiled children, ruin her figure and shave her head while beating paps with umbrellas. Or something like that. Invest well honey, your days are numbered..ask Britney.

Well she can carry a tune but shes not ever going to be considered one of the great vocalists of our time.
Alot of it is highly styled attitude and a whole lot of being in the right place at the right time to get a career out of it.
Women who sing in such a low key all the time are more limited vocally, just personal opinion, its great for grunts groans and being technically altered though.

You are so right. I saw her on the Today Show this morning and I had to turn the channel-- it was so awful. It's a shame the kind of stuff they're calling music these days.

Rihanna,Beyonce, and Usher can't sing or carry a tune. Just like many of todays singers. Mariah Carey is a good singer, but they none compare to the great Motown singers of the 60s. There are no more singers who sound like Martha and the Vandellas, The Supremes, or the Temptations. Music is not based on talent anymore, it is just based on sex appeal and instant monetary gratification.
I agree with the blog #5. Everyone is screaming at the top of their lungs and shaking their butts. WHAT HAS MUSIC COME TO? If everyone stop watching the videos, stop going to the concerts, and stop purchasing the albums, music might change.

even her studio recorded "unfaithful" sounds abysmal...which makes me think that if the studio can't make it sound good in a recording-how's her actual voice sound. most of her songs consist of a repetition of 5 words, i.e., ELLA-A, A, A, A (Umbrella) and Please Don't Stop the Music and then she's talking the rest of the songs out--but not so much singing..and even then it's irritating to the ears.

but still Beyonce is amazing if you even bothered to watch the beyonce experience. usher has been singing half his life and
Mariah Carey is not only a good singer but she is one of the worlds best.
Rihanna has a voice but needs vocal lessons in order to learn how to use a voice...WTF how can you say "Beyonce and Usher can't cary a tune" get help man she has been amazing from the start get your facts striaght before you say anything...bottom line is Rihanna cannot sing at the moment.Mariah is amazing also she has been singing since the 80's music only started to be about sex apeal in the 2000's usher and beyonce started there singing carrers in the 90's Beyonce was in destiny's child and usher came out with "You Got It Bad" when he was 15 he is no in his late 30's

Rihanna can't sing worth poop...which is how I found this blog. I was wondering if I was nuts or if everyone else thought she couldn't sing either.
To that other anonymous, Beyonce can sing damn good. I saw her sing in person a few times, the first time when she was only 16 back in Texas with Destiny's Child... she blew sh*t away and was the stand out in the group.
As for Rihanna, she's a pretty girl, but that's about it. Absolutely talentless.

Yes. Usher is as talented as say, lionel richie voice wise, but can dance every bit as good as micheal. So is Chris Brown.
Yet it is frustrating for me as a black person who grew up in church and heard good singing everyday to see a manufactured voice on the radio everyday.
She just cant sing. Every song manipulates her voice. so for those of us who dont even see her as cute are left to wonder how all of a sudden she has come to dominate american music.
Another good reason to just turn the tv off.

Rihanna is not a great vocalist but the girl can sing and carry a tune. Of course, she is no beyonce, and never will be. She can't never hit the notes or songs that bey can like Irreplaceable, If I Were Boy, Halo, Dangerously In Love, Listen, At Last. Beyonce has more range and diversity and can sing any damn song. Rihanna is way better than Ciara though but not on bey's level. And usher can sing. who ever said that is a trip. Mariah Carey sounded better back in the days, but not she is not the same Mariah Carey. I love me some Mariah but she cannot hit those notes anymore.

I can appreciate how hard she must work as an artist, but there is something to be said about having real talent......Her voice sound terrible and unfortunately, she CAN NOT EVEN CARRY A TUNE. The American public is willing to accept her as a singer because the standards of talent have gone WAAAAAAY DOWN since the 80's, when REAL SINGERS LIKE WHITNEY HOUSTON AND ANITA BAKER WERE SINGING. Being a real vocalist requires natural talent and art that 98% of the women/girls who are out today lack. Sex appeal, popularity and a nice track/beat, seem to be all it takes to become a female, grammy winning artist these day. Keep in mind, that we (the consumers) are making people with little to no talent, rich. It's time to raise our standards and demand some singers with ACTUAL TALENT! Unfortunately, Rhianna like several other singers out today, does not posses this talent.
