Leona Helmsey leaves her dog 12 million!
The Queen of Mean, Leona Helmsey decided to leave the bulk of her fortune to her little dog, Trouble. Her grandkids got zip. Makes me laugh. That's what you get for not kissing Grammas ass, you little no goods. Now you'll be shopping at Target with the rest of the commoners. Well, the dog may have "inherited" the 12 mil, but that was a drop in the proverbial bucket for this gal. She was worth BILLIONS.
But any way you slice it, the dog's cut seems to be getting all the press for obvious reasons. What many don't realize is that the dog's 12 million is to be held in trust by the dog's future caretaker, Leona's brother.
But that wasn't her only bequest... not by a long shot. Here's the general breakdown:
The brother who is caring for the dog also inherited several million in addition to the dog's trust.
Leona had four grandchildren. Two got zip, and the other two (all were the children of her late son, Jay Panzirer) received 5 million each with the proviso that they visit the grave of their father at least once each calendar year. (dontcha love the ridiculous contingencies the power-wielding mega rich place on their wills?) If they don't make the visits, I guess they have to return the money.. (ummm..... huh?!)
The two that received nothing, were written off "for reasons known to them". (ouch)
There were also several "minor" bequests... 100K to her chauffeur and similar amounts to other "little people" who worked...er, slaved for her all their lives.
Here's the kicker... the REAL dough... the final total expected to reach into the billions once everything she owned is sold-- all of it will go to the Helmsley CHARITABLE TRUST! How can this beeee?
Is it possible that old Leona, the living symbol of greed in the 1980's, the female "Gordon Gekko", wasn't such a bad lady after all?
