Marcia Cross is on Capitol Hill in Washington DC lobbying for better laws for women being forcibly sent home from hospitals one day after having breasts removed. What? They do that?????? OMG! She calls them “drive-through mastectomies" and wants laws saying the woman and her doctor should decide how long she stays.

I am totally ignorant to this practice, but I know a mastectomy is a big deal..it's not just removing a breast. There are muscles removed too and they need physical therapy to get moving again. Has anyone had this operation..can you tell us more??

no I don't but I know if you can pee after an operation you are usually shoved out the door, so I wouldn't be surprised.

i've heard that....insurers have too much power over doctors nowadays and it needs to STOP....some 'suit' thinks they know how long a 'stay' should be and they know jack shit....i hope all those insurers who veto stays and life saveer ops suffer through their own bureaucracy someday!
they have drive-thru births too!! A hospital a couple towns over if a woman has a natural birth by 6AM they have to check out of the hospital at 1pm....7 hours later! i've never had kids but even i know that ain't right!
Is there a medical reason for having your breasts cut off?

Are you kidding?
she must be.
how about breast cancer, Eve? as a woman, I think you should learn more about that. Please.
A woamn named EVE of all names & she has no idea what a womans body involves?? OMFG! Get a clue. That means you don't do monthly self exams or get mamagrams too! Please look into this. Do you get your annual pap? You kinda worry me. How old r u?
they have been doing this for about a year now...i know a couple of women who this has happened to.
Marcia Cross is a rare bird in Hollywood these days. For all her success you'd be hard-pressed to find someone who can or would say anything negative in her regard.
While her colleagues (her co-stars, among them) spend the afternoon lunching at the Ivy and shopping Fred Segal's, Marcia's on the other side of the country making the most of her down-time by doing something positive and worthwhile and that's for the benefit of the common, everyday woman!
God Bless 'ya, Marcia... for being willing to step up and utilize your celebrity to focus the spotlight on this grossly-overlooked and disregarded topic.
Hospitals are BEYOND shitty, and insurance companies make Satan look like a Girl Scout!! 3 days is the maximum they WANT to stay for ANY type of surgery!! They don't care that people going home TOO early will most likely cause further complications and bring them BACK to the hospital! They're just looking at the almighty dollar!! Greedy fucks!
For God's sake! I was kidding. Calm down, people.
Eve
Sorry if I offended anyone, by the way. I ralise it was a cruel joke.

The mastectomies they do these days are rarely radical mastectomies, but simple mastectomies. So, they don't take muscle like they used to. Recovery is much easier.
My question, after several hospitalizations, is why would anyone WANT to stay longer than a day or 2. If I can get on my feet and in a w/c, show my family how to take care of me, and let me go home!
And, yes. I did have a simple mastectomy. Went home the next day.
I had a simple mastectomy, ironic naming it that, ain't nothing simple about major surgery that takes several hours. A bit traumatic one would say to have a boob (or 2) removed. They allowed me to stay about 30 hours, overnight, and I went home with tubes hanging out of me and my sister helped me with the drainage b/c I was grossed out by it and well, kinda depressed ya know. But reconstruction does wonders. Not as good as new but you can stand to look in the mirror again. Back to the subject, good for Marcia.
