DD gets a pet!
I'm so excited. My late Moms Day present came about 2 am. She's sooo cute! She has a huge cage with climbing equipment, toys to hide snacks in, a hammock, an igloo and she's little. She fits in my hand now, but, she'll get bigger. She gives me kisses and I love her! I wanted to put her pic on here, but, she's sleeping right now. I think she's nocturnal, but, that's okay, so am I. Can you guess what she is? Hint...say cheese! Actually, I don't know if she likes cheese, but, I'll find out. DD has a mascot!

EWWW!!!!!! Yikes! A hedgehog would have been cuter. Be careful. I read about a guy that had pet rats & his entire house became infested with them. They totally destroyed his home. He was older and just let them run free. Many had been destroyed and some crazy woman was trying to "rescue" some of them.(was that you?) No thanks. "Get the D-Con"!!! Ick.

but you should have two - they are much happier that way.
Don't let it run around freely if you try to sleep or it will stick its nose into your nose and ears or tries to get into your collar - no chance to stay asleep ....
Btw, the LOVE sunflower seeds and everything you are eating at the moment ;)
Oh and be carefull with alcoholic sweets - some rats love to get drunk and others are real 'mormons'.
If your rat shows interest in the cabling, give it a limestone.
But the best part - they are great for testing hazelnuts!
Rat hoards the hazelnuts? They are good to eat. Rat kicks a nut out of its home? The nut gone bad. ... ok, they are not too happy if you steal their nuts...
we let our rats run around free too. And the worst they did was digging in some flower pots. You have to give them limestone - and don't mix males and females - and you'll be fine.

All advice taken,,thanks! She's still asleep. I just checked her breathing like a mom with a newborn..lol.
oh, if there is a running wheel in the cage, remove it. ats can kill themselves with that stuff.
on the plus side, rats love cuddling. One of ours likes to sit half on my hand while I was watching tv at night, half asleep (the rat, me not. Had to pet it.) Another one loved to sleep between the breasts of my sister ...
Lucky you!!! I love them.. I have 3 cats so it's a no go for me..but I know people who have had them and loved them..they are great pets and very affectionate..

O gawd! You are all grossing me out. Sleeping with those damn things. Letting them sleep between your breasts? Who ARE you people? I can't even look at them at PetSmart, Petco! I avoid that area altogether. Not even close. I cannot imagine all the rat shit in ya'lls houses, just tucked in everywhere! Piles of it. P-U!!! Enjoy! I ain't "Willard" I guess.
Cute! I had a rat when I was younger and they are really smart and don't stink if they have ventilation. Nicer than mice although I also had seven of those once in three cages and I did love them. Rats can be really fussy about their house and not like you changing stuff around or putting new stuff in, that was the only prob I ever noticed with mine. Can't wait to see a pic!

Ah I was about to say a rat but now you won't know if I'm lying or not. But I really was gonna guess a rat! They're very sweet. That will be fun.
