Her Royal Highness checks out a bust of herself. It looks nothing like her, she's cute as a gnats wristwatch. Bite me, I'm a QE fan.

Yeah, ever since I saw "The Queen last year, I don't hate her anymore. I did tho during the Diana funeral fiasco. That was terrible. It still seems pretty awful to me , when I think back. But she's about 200 years old & looks great & still going strong! Skip Charles & pass it right to William, way to go Liz! Keep Charles shrew outta the palace!
i'm a big QEII fan, always have been....she is a very caring person, she doesn't show it, because she is THE QUEEN....
i have HUNDREDS of books on the british royal family and consider myself an expert...i check the bibliography in books and then buy THOSE books and i can tell you that many books currently written totally misquote and/or use quotes out of context from older books that are out of print--they probably figure no one would check their references/sources...
I always thought that the Queen got a bad rap regarding Diana. I remember reading the papers when Diana had been around for only a few years and seemed to spend a lot of time openly suffering. British newspapers slavishly reported every little thing that was said and done around her, and pundits weighed in with their takes on who was right or wrong.
Once after dinner, the Queen reportedly said to Diana something like, "I suppose you're going to see that later", meaning Diana was going to throw up her food. Many ink stained wretches penned many virulent lines about the heartless comment to poor, bulimia ridden Diana.
But the Queen is a straightforward person. She's not "complicated", and she doesn't understand people who are. Intentionally vomiting up perfectly good food - what's that about? I'm sure the comment was her way of saying, "I know something is wrong and I'm trying to acknowledge that, but I don't know how. I've never seen anything like this in my life."
Whether one likes the Queen or not, thinks her position is fair or not, it's asking too much of her to change. Would your own grandmother change, just because she should? Change is difficult for any older person, never mind someone who's had nothing remotely resembling a normal life, to begin with.
If you are a royalty buff, haven't read it already and you're looking for a fun novel this summer, I highly recommend "The Queen and I", by Sue Townsend. It was written several years ago and has been overtaken by real life events, but it's very entertaining.
Miss Tia: Thats EXACTLY what I was gonna say! But it WAS said, nonetheless. Which was mean & not helpful or private. Charles did not have a grasp on his marriage,he didn't really care because his heart was elsewhere, with Camilla. The "shrew". *Blech* But her hats amuse me!!!
Charles DID love Diana...both of them wanted their marriage to work, but both Charles & Diana had different ideas of how things should work and Diana had seriously emotional problems, which Charles had no way of really understanding...
on their honeymoon, Charles did call in psychiatrists for Diana and tried to get her help...also, his position was/is one where he couldn't be with her 24/7 and that's what she wanted and needed to feel reassured....
i do believe that Charles was faithful to Diana the first few years, but he couldn't cope with all the problems and then went back to Camilla...
Charles was very upset over Diana's death and he assured that she was treated with respect and accorded the right to have the Royal Standard on her coffin, wanted them to find her other earring when they brought her body home---even though no one would see her body, he knew she would want to be wearing her earrings, etc...
he truly cared, but he was not raised to be touchy feeling and even though I liked Diana, she did have serious problems---which she could supress magnificantly in public to be able to do her work...
misstia, the newspaper I read at the time quoted the Queen as having made the comment, with columnists putting in their two cents - a direct quote I remember was, "I can just imagine the Queen saying that!" But I'm sure you're right. You weren't kidding when you said you were interested!
I agree with you that Charles showed a lot of dignity in dealing with bringing Diana's body home, even though he got zero credit for it, at the time.
dignity is the right word re: charles...people don't seem to realize that he spent 45 minutes with diana's body alone in that hospital room and he came out crying and requested a chaplin to ensure diana was blessed before transport...the dr.s and nurses there at that hospital witnessed this, but this kind of stuff isn't really published cuz he's been made to be the 'villian'....charles AND diana were both victims....
yeah, i'm a royalty junkie and when reporters claim QEII has never been in a kitchen, i say BULLSHIT! She was in the girl guides (our girl scouts) and earned her cooking badge! she also made drop scones for president truman when they had a picnic tea....
i am FILLED with useless information on the british royal family!

I DO!!! total monarchy geek!
The only resemblance to QE is the hair, otherwise it looks nothing like her. And those eyes! Stern, threatening.... bordering on hateful.
Ugh! The entire project is just plain horrid.

it was Prince Charles who said that comment about seeing the food again later.....The Queen would never say anything like that....
