A brother is writing a tell-all book about his sister's mysterious death in 1999. The sister was Nerine Kidd Shatner who died in her swimming pool in 1999. Her brother told the Globe that Nerine was an alcoholic who's AA sponser advised her husband, William Shatner to never leave her alone. One day he left her in the care of the housekeeper and came back to find her on the bottom of the pool. Her brother claims the reason Captain Kirk didn't jump in and save her was because he was wearing a new $25,000 toupee. Shatner called 911 instead, but, Nerine could not be saved. Her brother: "The normal reaction is to pull the person out of the pool and start CPR."*********
Pretty wild, huu? But, if you click that link on her name, the report says that when medics arrived on the scene, Nerine was laying dead by the side of the pool. So, someone pulled her out.

Wow! this should get interesting. The wife sounded like a huuuuge Liability.
A $25 Thousand Dollar Toupee. LOL!
A 25,000 dollar toupee?. He could have gotten Burts Reynolds' for cheap when he went broke.
He didn't leave her alone!! He left her with the housekeeper! and i remember reading when it happened that he DID pull her out and start CPR and he called 911!! WTF?
and i think just recently shatner and his current wife attended a fundraiser for a foundation he set up in memory of Nerine....
i think the brother is after money!
Sounds like a very fu'd up brother to me. Probably distorting reality for a little fame/profit.
Shatner's evil. Not as evil as Taylor Hicks though.
I completely agree that Shatner is one evil fuck. I followed the ups and downs of his marriage to Nerine and sadly, there were far more "downs". She was a raging alcoholic.. what some might refer to as "hopeless".
I do believe he loved her at the beginning, but simply didn't realize the severity and the grip of her disease. It's my opinion, that after a long series of humiliating episodes in which her outrageous, drunken behavior was splashed all over the papers at the time-- he just stopped CARING.
Poor Nerine... she was a lovely, kind and caring person.. and even those who handled her case in the various rehabs she attended agreed.
Right from very beginning I thought this case smelled to HIGH heaven. The former host of a "Rescue 911" attempts no rescue of a wife (however flawed) he purported to love?
And leaving her in the "CARE" of a housekeeper? Sorry, but a housekeeper is not a "people-keeper"-- she has her own job to do but more importantly, she's a LONGGGG way from a qualified minder for someone with Nerine's complicated issues.
MissTia, I love you and agree with just about every comment you post--but the 911 transcript clearly exposed how Shatner called 911 while his wife continued to lay at the bottom of the pool.
When the dispatcher asked if he'd made any effort to remove her from the pool, Shatner replied "No".
Clearly annoyed, she then demanded he remover her from the pool, but he balked and mumbled something about "his wig".
She (the dispatch) then said "I want you to remove her from the pool right now-- GET YOUR WIFE OUT OF THE POOL! And do not hang up the phone..."
Shatner responds "Okay..." And promptly hangs up the phone. (say WHAT???)

In all fairness, when rescue units appeared on the scene, Nerine *was* on the deck beside the pool. No official word on who pulled her out, but neighbors had also appeared in the interim.
And the final KICKER of weirdness from someone who was there:
After Nerine's service a few days later, Shatner had invited 50 of their closest friends back to the house for drinks and a SWIM IN THE POOL!
Only in Hollywood...
It sounds like that marriage was over a long, long time ago.
However, in his defense, if you've ever had to babysit an alcoholic, it's no picnic. It's a 24/7 nightmare. You can't talk to the person because they're never sober enough to understand much, and the booze rules.
It was a mistake to leave her with a housekeeper. The housekeeper was really in no position to control her employer (Nerine), and Shatner should have known that.
