George Carlin, who gave us The Seven Words in the 70's, passed away Sunday in Santa Monica, Calif. Carlin was 71. It's not like we'd never heard the seven words before..we used them all the time, but, we were a bunch of heathens who weren't raised right (my folks screwed me up!) but, proper people didn't use those words. They certainly didn't stand up on stage and use those words all in a row. We thought Carlin was the funniest thing we'd ever seen. I still think we were right. Rest in peace, George, you will be missed.*
The words, if you don't know, are...shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker and tits. Carlin's "auxiliary" words were fart, turd and twat. George was arrested for disturbing the peace when he performed the "Seven Dirty Words" at a show in Wisconsin. The outcome of it all was that indecency regulations were formally established in American broadcasting. George was indecent. We loved him.

very sad getting up this morning and seeing this news....george was one of my personal heros....anti-establishment, very funny and usually an intelligent point behind his humor....
had his vinyl albums back in the 70's. He was a god in comedy. I loved his crazy ass hair & contorted faces and gestures. Clever and intelligent. He admitted to being coked out, but it worked for him. He said what we all knew was true but didn't have a platform for it. I recently got a fwd in my email about some very funny things he had said about Obama. He must be a republican! LOL! He was the best. George...you rock! I will miss you. XO
Very sad. Though I'm sure there is an appropriate Carlin routine for how we are all feeling :-)
May you rest in pieces and rot in hell, George.
Thanks for making my day!
Ah! So now that Blink 182 song doesn't seem random or ridiculous and I learned something today.
I only knew him from Kevin Smith movies but he was hilarious.
Ah, all the good ones are leaving us. Very sad news indeed.
Anon 7:30, you should be ashamed of yourself.

I am absolutely heartbroken. My dad introduced me to George Carlin & I never stopped loving him. He was a very funny man. He will be missed. =[

Oh how sad, i haven't read or heard the news yet today. I loved that mans comedy and insights as he (we all) got older.
Rest in Peace George and thanks for all the laughter you will be missed so much.
xo
I was just so bummed out when I heard this first thing this morning.
RIP George... You will be missed by so many. Thanks for the laughs and your brilliant insights especially the ones on aging which somebody already mentioned here. I can still remember laughing my ass off the first time I heard "the 7 words" routine the way he added
"and tits" at the end. Let's not forget that disgusting word, tits. just made me howl. Wow, that was decades ago and I still remember it. He was amazing.
