The Gosselin's..a sham?

I'm not supposed to blog about this according to some readers here, but, I will anyhow, because this is one of the shows I watch. When someone has a hit TV show they become celebrities. Jon and Kate and their 8 kids are celebs with major celeb benefits. In this article from the Enquirer some of the Gosselin's motives are questioned and you have to wonder what they make by raising their family on television. It doesn't take a genius to know why Juicy Juice is in my face while I watch the show. It's called product placement, but, what am I not seeing? I did some research and found out that most of the article seems true. Kate does have a gardener, nannies, stylists, a personal organic chef, housekeepers and the couple enjoys free vacations, transportation, accommodations, clothes, sportswear and equipment and they also do public speaking engagements for $25,000 a pop, frequently. They get free plastic surgery and hair plugs as well as some medical treatments. This is in addition to a huge salary from the show.
*
I like finding out how reality shows work and what is real and what's not. It seems Kate has been scamming us for awhile with her "we're so poor" act. Jon says he's a web designer, but, his desk is in the family closet and no where on the net could I find any company affiliated with him in any way. Interesting. I wouldn't work either if I had a TV show, but, I wouldn't lie about it. You can click HERE to make that article bigger so you can read it. But, the most interesting site on the family and their show is HERE it's called Gosselin's Without Pity. Not everyone in the world is enamored of these parents and it's good reading.
*
Be sure and click on "Top Three Topics" to read synopsis and comments by readers there. It's good to know other people are seeing what I see and questioning it all. To those of you who don't care..ever heard of skipping something you don't like? Suck it up, I like the show. It beats hell outta watching Denise Richards breeding pigs or Ali Lohan pretending she's can sing and that her mom isn't a crank whore.

Yeah, I like the kids and it's still fun, but, I saw things that made me really question what was up and it's nice to know I wasn't the only one.

How come the dwarfs dont have a maid & a chef then? They have been on TV longer and their house is a wreck, like real peoples houses are! They have been able to do some huge remodeling & added that bad ass pool last year tho. So, we know they have money. But she continues to teach & he went back to sales so he could have medical insurance for Zach & himself. Why haven't we hard all this about them? I know there is some shady stuff about them being able to afford all the things they do. But the mom has to regularly "jump" her van so it will start. I don't get it. They dont have the same sponsors as the 8 babies do I guess! Maybe it was his DUI. Which he got out of mostly. But that was a boost to the ratings. & where is "Dog The Bounty Hunter"? I heard they have been filming but the show hasn't been back on air yet. I like that show. He made a mistake too and it's behind him. I wanna watch the DOG! Maybe they are gonna wait & bring it back in the fall. But whats the deal with the dwarfs? Does anybody know anything?

I admittedly have got wrapped up in the J&K+8 drama, reading many of the links you have posted. I have definitely begun to question the show and the motives. I think when you open up your family to national tv, the money and freebies start rolling in from sponsers, and a person reaslize there is always more to be had, well that can get the best of some. It looks like has got to the point where it has gotten the best of Kate and Jon, and they have forgot the point of their show in the first place.

Your neighbors are fucked up.

i personally love this show. The whole reason they probably did this show in the start was to get money, because obviously they get paid to do the show. As time went on, im sure they got paid more for their time on the air. I highly doubt they have a chef. Have you seen that house where the hell would a chef be? the kitchen is the size of a bathroom pretty much its very little. As for nannys and cleaning people they showed her going through interveiws, clearly she cannot do all of that on her own.

I find it to be bullshit, jon and kate have 8 kids and im sure are busy enough with them to go around making a fake TV show. They get free things, so it gets on the show and other people see it and go to them. such as medical/vacation. Its allll advertising.

I have always been very suspicious about how she is always so f'g organized. No woman with 8 GD f'g kids is THAT f'g organized! The woman, has help! And lots of it! As for the chef, and the kitchen being small. Maybe the meals are cooked elsewhere and brought there for them? Probably be easier considering the filming and the big family around. I sure as hell couldn't cook with all that going on. And that keeps her house cleaner too.

I don't begrudge them the help or the money but I do resent the way they represent themselves as doing things on their own.

There are probably parents with one or more kids wondering why they can't take care of things as well as the Gosselins seem to do.

Frankly, if you're not doing your own cleaning, cooking, playing with the kids or worrying about how to pay the bills & balance your work life with your home life, then I don't want to hear any of your whining.

And DD, you're absolutely right about the hitting. Kate needs to learn how to control herself; she wonders why Mady is highstrung?!? Take a look in the mirror.

That being said, I'm still gonna watch it. I can't help it; I might be addicted. Someone call Intervention!

Don't forget the free teeth whitening.

How about her free spa treatments and spa days???

Oh man! One day they'll be crying fer real cause TLC will drop'em like an STD.

thats true. Other sextuplets have been the babes of the media, until they get a bit older & they just aren't cute anymore. They better save their money! They will be needing it. And I bet they have no friends left anymore. She has probably scared them all away with threats of asking them to babysit while they go on a free vaca! I wouldn't wanna be her friend either. She will use you for what she can get & then she's outta there. TLC will be doing that to them too! Next!

Dish, I probably give you more grief than all the other 'nay-sayer's put together. IMO, it's your blahg, and you don't have to justify it's content to anyone.

My only gripe is when hot-button topics (ie; politics & religion) find their way onto what is ostensibly a celebrity gossip blog.

Amy Roloff doesn't have anyone cleaning her house or cooking for her because it would drive her crazy.

The Gosselin's "chef" does cook the food elsewhere and delivers it to them (with wine and flowers).

The housecleaners have nothing to do with the people Kate interviewed. All "help" is now directly provided by TLC (or Figure8 Films).

They now live on a tv set. Everything that is shown on TV is paid for by the production company -- from the vacation to Hawaii to the cupcakes the boys were not allowed to eat.

As for the National Enquirer article -- where there's smoke, there's fire. The NE wrote about Jon Edwards' affair back in October 2007.

The Gosselin's...are the BEST family! Think about it...you have 8 kids, first you have twins, you go for the 3rd and you find out you are going to have 6, yes 6 kids and you and husband pray and decided to KEEP them all; they are born and all HEALTHY! Plain and simple, that alone is UNBELIEVABLE! The hype is over and reality has settled...SURVIVAL! How is the ordinary American family going to survive with a family of 10? What do you do? How are you going to feed your family, put clothes on their back, provide SHELTER. Then with God's blessing, a TV show comes along and says are you willing to document your life and get paid for it? UH...HELLO, YES! Being a stay at home mom of 2, it is hard. I can't even imagine what they go through. They may have a cleaning person and someone to do their yard work and maybe someone who cooks for them but if they can do it, they have to. They WANT to spend time with their kids. The kids are happy, healthy. loving children because of their parents and God, nothing else. Don't hate, of all the negative things in this world, it's wonderful to see a happy and normal American family. Peace.

My My My. If I had 8 kids I would take all of the help I could get WITHOUT treating my husband to my constantly hitting. That said, she is doing her best, just not OUR best. The only beef: don't portray your family as "poor" when you are getting not just everyday freebies but a "chef, plastic surgery, plugs, gardener, nannies and so much more". J

You have to wonder about their missing parents, the irritated neighbors and their children who are allowed to hit, scream, lie --- Kate is quite the piece of work. It's fun to watch the dysfunction. BTW, does anyone else wonder why they have nothing on the walls and why they never play in the backyard?

Anonymous said...

Their life is about using the kids to get freebies and income, close ups of Juicy Juice and Ikea and Swiffer, product placements lining their pockets, it is a sham and the kids are being hurt by it./

1) You never see them play in the backyard because it's called editing.
2) If they are a sham, who cares. It got you guys to watch the show right? Actors are somewhat the same. At the end of the day, they are not the characters they play.
3) All I hear is jealousy. IF by chance you get the same freebies as they do, I'm sure you'd take it too...Celebrities do it all the time. Actors gets gift bags to attend an event.
4) Ask yourself, if an Oprah producer asks you to renew your vows in Hawaii for FREE with a catch that they tape it, would you do it? Why not right?

I do watch, religously. However, my friends and I feel at first, it was about watching a struggling family try to survive, not only the day to day basics, but financiallly, etc. Now, if you notice, they never show Kate going to the grocery store with her little pink calculator. She doesn't have to. He very obviously doesn't work any more...they drive an hour to bring their kids to pre-school. All this, while the rest of us struggle and make do during these hard, financial times. I have lost a lot of respect for both Jon and Kate. I cannot say I wouldn't do the same in their boat, but I don't think I could go on tv every week and display this fakeness, when they are supposed Christians. I just think it is very sad...the whole premise of the show is gone from reality to what else they can get for free. As for the Rohloff's, I see them as hard working, and deserving. They have been dealt a much heavier load and have worked hard to get where they are, without the help of a tv show. Shame on Jon and Kate for letting us fall in love with their family, only to use us (yes, we are all paying for it through our cable bills!) to gain their economic freedom.

This show is about a wonderful loving famiy. And yes there are things hung up on the walls. You must not see the pics in the dining room and in the living room. and they do not live on a tv set are you evem freakin kidding me? So wat if they get a few freebies. NEWS FLASH!!!! They need the help. They have 8 dang kids!!!! Jon and Kate love their kids more than anything in the world. Us TRUE Jon and Kate Plus Eight fans gotta stick together and say "ARE YOU PEOPLE NUTS!!!??" Yes she may have a cleaning person and stuff like that, but we have all seen her slave over the stove for 8 hungry children. And this whole Aunt Jodi thing. Kate would NEVER betray her wonderful sister-in-law. If you people really know Kate you would know that the things I'm saying are 100% true!!!! Maybe Jon is having a little trouble finding work or maybe he was off the day he took them to pre-school. We don't know everything people!!! And that news artical is a tabliod. Most of that stuff probably isn't even true. So you true Jon and Kate plus Eight Fans lets stick togetherand pray that these people don't horass them anymore about this crap. They love their children and their children love them!!!! I LOVE AND PRAY FOR YOU CARA NICOLE, MADYLN KATE, ALEXIS FAITH, HANNAH JOY, AADEN JONATHON, COLLIN THOMAS, LEAH HOPE, AND JOEL KEVIN. AND I HOPE THAT THESE PEOPLE STOP BEING MEAN TO YOUR MOMMY AND DADDY:)

yes they are probably more well off then the most of us, who cares?! they are allowing us to pretty much sit in there house and watch there everyday routine, I know i would never be able to do that, and i bet not a lot of you would be able to either. If that is how they feel they are best supporting and helping there kids in the long run then good for them. All the money they are making now will benefit them all in the long run when they have 8 kids in college!!!! we all think having 1 or 2 kids in college is bad, how about 8?? I say we all look at the positive of this show at how loving Jon&Kate are to all of there kids, and on top of that how cute the kids are! =)

Anonymous said...

have you seen their bank accounts? do you know how many checks they write? how do you know all this stuff is free? if they have the money for fertility treatments, i'm sure they have the money for the family. and jon is way more than a "web designer" he does something w/ software. a developer or something. and for the OP, w/ 8 kids you HAVE to be organized, there's no if, ands or butts about it. They are too high class to be anything but poor. could you see Larry the Cable guy living like this? ;)

Anonymous said...

And to the person who called "Little People, Big World" Dwarfs... they're LITTLE PEOPLE ;)

Anonymous said...

WOW People are being F&&&&ERS! Seriously guys, I agree with ILovethe Gosselins about three or four comments up. They're are just people who ended up with eight kids, they're nice and they love their kids, and they do NOT live on a TV set, it's obvious to anyone who watches the show regularly. And they play outside a TON!
