We decided it was better for Pete if he got acquainted and developed an attachment with his new adoptive mom while he was still somewhat babyish. So, Pete left yesterday. It was sad, he knew something was up the minute they walked in and clung to me and hid behind furniture..something he's never done. But, he did warm up to them enough to jump on them and sniff their fingers. He chattered to them too, which in squirrel world, means you're okay. Deb has several grand kids who are big animal lovers like her and they were excited to help raise him the rest of the way. In a few days he will be out in her yard climbing trees like a real squirrel and that makes me feel good about it. I know he'll be happier, it was the right thing to do. Sure is quiet around here though. Have yourself a great squirrel life, Pete. I was honored to help you out. Hopefully I'll get some pics of him in the trees and at the feeders.

Bye Pete!!! Can't wait to see pix of him in his new home---tree!!
Pete will know you forever! You're his 'mom'!
Yeah, he probably will remember me. I feel such guilt because he really thinks I'm his family, but, he just can't live in captivity. Tt wouldn't be right. It's a little traumatic though.
Ya done the right thing, DD, hard as it is to do. I am proud of you! Godspeed and a long squirrely life to Pete.
Good luck Pete
