Did anyone watch Mad Men last night?

Last night, Don Draper ( John Hamm) and his lovely wife, Betty (January Jones) had a picnic with their two lovely children in a lovely park (after he was done cheating on her). He sucked down some non light beers and heaved the cans into the pristine park and she dumped all their trash on the carefully mowed lawn, then dad got his beer soaked ass behind he wheel, no one buckled up and they took off. The last shot in the scene was the garbage they left scattered all over the picnic area blowing in the breeze. Oh, and they all smoked a carton of cigs a minute. I love that attention to detail. It would be too easy to just dress them like the 60's and give 'em 60's cars and furniture.

Hamm just won an Emmy for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series. Well deserved. Easily my favorite show, because it's brilliant. And it pisses me off to no end. How the Hellandback did men get away with that condescending nonsense?? Sweetheart, doll. Aggggg.

I LOVE this show! I didn't see it last night DD, but is this episode the same one where Don buys that new car and at the very end, Betty throws up in it? I think that was on two Sundays ago. This past Sunday was a repeat.

Well, ya gotta remember, DD, the reason the Equal Rights Amendment didn't pass, is not that it gave women equal rights with men, it's because it gave men equal rights with women.
"The hand that rocks the cradle..."
...as people used to say.
There are some people who still behave that way.
(...and, if the election falls into the same hands, say "hello" to more of that same back-asswards bullshit.)

I do remember. Such awful behavior and yes there are still throwbacks. I get sick to my stomach when a man I don't know calls me sweetheart or doll or darlin' or any of that crap.

OMG! Dont you hate men like that? My name is Roxanne, when a man, that I have never met, calls me Roxy the 1st time I am introduced to them, I wanna slap them across the GD face! Nobody calls me that, NOBODY! And it's usually a business person doing it. Unbelieveable. Men are awful. They think we like that treatment, like it's a come-on and see if we nibble. Like it's cute or something. Gag me! Nobody gave you permission to call me that! Gawd! Drop dead all you "Roxy" sayers!

OMG! Just remembered...or they start singing "Roxanne" by The Police. They get all the way to the line "...you don't have to turn on your red light,Roxanne"...and they laugh like "I'm so clever, aren't I, I bet nobody's ever sang that to you before?" Ok...stab me in the ear if I hear that one more time! It's not funny, you dont look like Sting (if you did I wouldn't mind!) you don't sing like him and you are an idiot. Anyone else out there thats ever had this happen about a jillion times over their lifetime will understand! Sorry to rant, but men need to get a clue!

Well, I find only a few old school middle aged cave dwellers act like that. Most men have been raised differently now, but, age is no excuse. They need to change. No one likes being disrespected. I used to tell 'em in the bar..my name has 1 syllable, if you can't remember it, "hey, bartender" is fine, otherwise you'll get mighty thirsty. If beer was involved, they'd listen.

thats a gorgeous picture, is it filmed in some different way? It looks like it's from a time warp. I love it. Like Andy & Helen sitting on her sofa getting cozy!

Geez, the stories my Mom has told me about being a working gal in the 50s are appalling: Shoved into closets and felt-up, doing the bosses work and not getting credit or compensation, etc. There wasn't anything she could do about it: She would have been fired instantly with no recourse. She showed those a-holes, working her way through college and being a success at whatever she tried. And *still* on average women don't make as much as men for the same work. Now. In 2008. Greedy world.

I have never seen this show. I have the first season on order at the library. I had heard the show mentioned in passing, but had never watched.

A few weeks ago,I joined twitter.com. It is an online chat where you can follow people and they can follow you. Anyway, I got an e-mail from twitter saying that don_draper wanted to follow me. I clicked on his account and saw that he was an ad exec. I thought hmmm. Then, I read his comments and noticed the 50s/60s overtones. I saw he was following other drapers and got the joke. All the postings are hilarious, especially the kids "Ron" and "Sally." I posted and got a response from betty. It's was a hoot.

I might just watch next week.
