This is an old neighborhood, just full of apple trees. Everybody has 'em. We've had apple pie, apple crisp, apple cider..enough. The kids make a game of kicking the droppers. Smashed apples everywhere, the smell of fermentation, beez a buzzin'. Oh, well, I guess the squirrel's and coons will eat the rest. Lissa says she wins if she can kick one clear around the block. By the time she gets it home, it's applesauce.

Ooooooo my kids would have so much fun! It would be a sensory party for me, I love stuff like that :)
Seeing those apples just lying there on the ground ~rotting~ makes me ill...
(considering I just paid $4 lb. at my local grocer in So Cali)
apples can be stored for several months if you put them in your basement (or a shed if you don't have a basement)...just make sure they're dry!
Ah. . . those were the days. I grew up on a small farm, and we had so very many different apples, Northern Spy, Winter banana, gravenstein, etc.
The cider was so good. My dad used to throw in a few wormy ones and a small branch or two to improve the flavor, can you believe it? (And we all drank it without question. It was good.)
One of the happiest days I've had recently was when other members of my family decided they really didn't have room for the old cider press (they spoke up before I knew it was available), and it came to my home to roost. (I had been quietly coveting it for years.)
It sits on my front porch, leaning to one side, and the memories and the smells, and taste come back everytime I look at it. Sigh. . .
Throwing them at people is much more fun.
we used to have 2 apple trees, then the ice strom broke off the tops. So, then they looked so bad, but still made apples which the yellow jackets were all over. So, we cut down the ugly , ruined trees. No more yellow jackets. No more rotting apples! yay!
Living in the swamps of La., I am so envious of anyone with an apple tree. I'm sure they can get out of hand if you have a lot of trees, but I just wish Johhny Appleseed would have made it to the south!
is ure kid that "special" she needs to wear a helmet to kick apples around?
She was riding her bike and she loves the helmet. But, yeah, she IS special. She's as special as my son, her father, who passed away last April and who she still cries for every night. She's as special as any child who's undergone three brain surgeries for an incurable condition. Bet you wish you hadn't posted that comment now, huu? Don't fret..I can take it. But, that's why I don't pick on kids. They're innocent and don't understand that people are mean to them for no reason.
