Hilary Duff and her charity

Duff supports her pet charity Blessings In A Backpack. I've meant to blog on that one for awhile now. I mean, we have free breakfast and lunch for these kids at school, but, what do they eat on the weekend when their crackhead mom leaves them alone with an empty fridge? Blessings puts non perishable items of food in their backpacks on Fridays so they can eat on the weekends too. It's terribly sad, isn't it? The program isn't national yet...I kind of wish some bigger stars would get involved in it. But, good for Hilary, it's a nice thought. We really need to feed America's kids, it seems like they get lost in the "awarness" shuffle.

yeah, i think americans as a whole are overlooked a lot of times....especially homeless hungry children in this country....adopt from a foreign country is a popular fad but what about adopting a needy child from THIS country??? why do we send BILLIONS worth of food to other countries when millions in THIS country are going to bed hungry?? ya know??? pisses me off....

there's nothing wrong with helping other countries, but we should ensure that OUR country is free from those things first!

There's just nothing worse than a hungry child. Nothing. People think it doesn't happen in our America. Shakes head.

The majority of the kids in these programs aren't up for adoption tia, their family falls into low income or poverty level with another unfortunate group made of big chunk of parents who are just plain irresponsible and looking for hand outs.

Adopting in north america is no easy task. It's easier and cheaper for ppl to go overesea's. Screwed up? Yes, but it is what it is. Throw in the fact that when couples want to adopt over here the vast majority of them want babies not toddlers or preschoolers and the arguement takes on a twisted mentality saying, the gov't will see that any child over here will be fed, clothed and educated where as overseas's 'they would be changing a life'.

Theres tough criteria to pass in north america to adopt, your entire life is disected and investigated and you got to do it with a smile on your face. Finances, past present and future, religious affiliations, family & extended family interviews as well as other refferences. Psyc evulations on and on. If you get through all that and can still pay all the legal fee's without remortgaging the house you've got to hope that the parents or extended family of whom you adopt don't change their mind within the first year. These and hundreds of other reasons is why so many adopt from other countries.

But i agree with you that theres a huge population of children in need of common neccessaries here, proper & enough food, medical care & treatment when needed, footwear and warm cloths, school supplies, the list is endless and we all know way too many kids like this and it's heartbreaking.
