Obama's official statement on Roe v. Wade anniversary

President Obama: "On the 36th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we are reminded that this decision not only protects women’s health and reproductive freedom, but stands for a broader principle: that government should not intrude on our most private family matters. I remain committed to protecting a woman’s right to choose.
While this is a sensitive and often divisive issue, no matter what our views, we are united in our determination to prevent unintended pregnancies, reduce the need for abortion, and support women and families in the choices they make. To accomplish these goals, we must work to find common ground to expand access to affordable contraception, accurate health information, and preventative services.
On this anniversary, we must also recommit ourselves more broadly to ensuring that our daughters have the same rights and opportunities as our sons: the chance to attain a world-class education; to have fulfilling careers in any industry; to be treated fairly and paid equally for their work; and to have no limits on their dreams. That is what I want for women everywhere."

I voted for him, though I strongly disagree on the matter of choice. For a number of the women I see professionally, abortion is the ONLY birth control. What happens to choice for the baby?

You man what happens for the fetus. There is a difference. One is a born human, the other is a parasite, dependent on the mother's body.

Finally. A president with a brain!

And all you stupid little dicked men who want to post pro-life messages here, remember this: If it isn't your uterus, it doesn't concern you. So shut the fuck up!

as a 'professional' i am surprised that you only seem to encounter shallow women who choose abortion as birth control? surely in your 'professional' capacity you have been confronted by women forced, by circumstance, into this heart-wrenching decision because of rape, poverty, illness, marriage breakdown and the myriad of life situations that have made it impossible for some woman to even contemplate bringing a child into their world? abortion is a painful decision that most women don't take lightly and again, i have to say, i am surprised, that as a 'professional' you are not aware of this.

Choice??

How about letting us choose which school to send our chidren to? (Democrats oppose school choice).

Let us choose what kind of lightbulbs we want to use. (we will be forced to, by law use those ugly mini compact fluorescent bulbs in a few years.

Let us choose what kind of cars we want, instead of demonizing the suv's.

Soon, they will ban talk radio, because the democrats don't want us to listen to anyone who opposes their point of view. The old "censorship" oh, i mean the fairness doctrine.

Its not about choice at all, is it?

And how can you defend partial birth abortion? Its a two day procedure, the baby is delivered all except for the neck, where the scissors are plunged into the neck, the brains are sucked out. your president thinks this is ok.

Now, their talking about creating jobs with the stimulous money. But if you are a white male, you need not apply. I think thats called racism!

I dont agree with abortion personally. However, I dont look down on any woman who makes that choice. My main issue is that it has been ok'd for tax dollars to go to organizations that perform abortions. Those organizations should run off donations by those who want to put their money toward it, individual payments from those utilizing the service that can afford it or a sliding scale fee based on income.

Anon 2:22 here...
I should add to my previous post so it's not misunderstood. I do get that there are special circumstances (ie. rape, risk to mothers health, incest.) In those cases, I do believe it should be an option.

Lia,

anon said that A NUMBER of women; not MOST women she sees professionally have abortion as their only choice. Just like a single track mind, hysteria, mind numbdness, and vitriol seem to be your way of life. Eat your Chairman Mao cereal and tuck yourself in with your Fidel hat and Che Guevara undies Lia; freedom of choice about schools, cars and preferred fur coat manufacturer.

I'm smirking at the partial birth abortion post. Pro-lifers always have to go there, don't they? Shakes head in disgust.

Am I wrong here, or does a doctor not also have a choice as to whom he/she performs an abortion on? Also, if that's really true (which I doubt) I have to credit it to the complete "dumbing down" of our country in the past 8 years. No focus whatsoever on responsible parenting and birth control. Hellooooo?
