The President Is Not A Chimp

The New York Post has apologized for running a cartoon that in some people's eyes suggested President Obama is a chimp. I'm sorta doubting there was any racist intent behind the cartoon...but if you work for the Post, don't you have to at least stop and think before running it? Yes I know we have free speech and shouldn't allow ourselves to be intimidated by people like Al Sharpton who want to turn every vaguely questionable statement or representation into a huge shitstorm - but there's such a thing as reality too, and in that reality, you can't really say what you want to say, or show what you want to show. Besides which, is that cartoon even really that clever? Seems silly to risk so much backlash for, at best, a few snickers.

I saw that cartoon and smiled. The next day all hell broke loose. Racist? Pffft. I just thought it was insulting to monkeys.

Al Sharpton is just pissed at the Post fro exposing his tax cheating ways.
Travis the chimp got shot and that was big news the day before. the stimulus bill got all kinds of press because of the pork that keopt getting added (Reid's 8 billion dollar train to Vegas), etc.
Nothing racist; Al Sharpton just wants to be relevant at all costs.

It's in poor taste. I got the joke right away, but it's one of those things you just don't do.

Wait. You mean he ISN'T a chimp?

Felt sorry for the chimp who was shot. That woman didn't look like she should own a pet rock. Don't these people realize chimps live to be as old as humans do? You are taking on a 6 old for 65 years when you adopt a chimp. It make sme sick. Not even 6 -- what, 3?

Sick cartoon, insensitive to the President and to everyone who saw this. And insensitive to animal lovers, too.

Not clever, not funny.... just lacking humor, not for any other reason.

I didn't think it was intended to be a racist comment, but it wasn't thought out thats painfully obvious or they would have realized the connection people like sharpton would draw. I have to agree with 4:50, Sharpton just wants to be in the spotlight as much and long as possible.

NOT RACIST?????
You have got to be kidding! Why even mention the stimulus bill then?? Wake up people!!!!!!!!

i don't really see how it's not racist. i try to be calm about these things, but it's saying that the cops can't tell the difference between an ape and our president. and after the long history of equating black people with monkeys, i just can't fathom how anyone can in good faith argue that it's not racist.
i mean, i get that the cops shot a chimp, and also the stimulus bill passed... but the only way the cartoon makes sense is if the white cops can't tell the difference between the (black) leader of the free world and a chimp.
i say it's racist without a doubt in my mind.

Well, if it wasn't mean to be directed at the President, exactly what DID they mean? Who else wrote the stimulous package? Oh...ahhhh.... it was written by a chimp... ??? ehhhh? Nope.

Really a stupid move to publish this.

Hey dumbfucks, Obama didn't write the bill, he signed it! Everyone just assumes that the chimp is supposed to represent Obama and those who assumed it are the racist ones if you even looked at it like that. Use your brains.

We all called dubya a chimp,is that racist too?!

My gawd! can we get over, ourselves, already!

There are ppl, truly suffering in the world & Al Sharpton wants to cont. his whine fest about racism! STFU! already-

Exactly 10:50, it wasn't said that the chimp/ape was obama, it's talking about the group of them, collectivly.

It wasn't aimed at Obama, he didn't write the stimulus bill, Pelosi did. So now Sharpton and his rent-a-crowd should sit down and chill, It's the NOW broads who should have their panties in a bunch!

Not racist. And by the way rep. Jim Clyburn is a race baiter. He played the race card every chance he got to rally troops behind him. Remember the Duke Lacrosse team fiasco? The D.A. and the new Black Panther party (all 11 of them), demanded conviction before trial for the players--

The country is changing, and the playing field for the people who dedicate themselves to education and hard work has never been fairer.

1. The President does not write legislation. The people who would the porkulous were 8 whites, one black.

2. I feel sorry for anyone who sees a picture of a monkey and thinks, "A black person!" That's just dumbass.

3. Al Sharpton's day is done. A black person is in the highest office in the land. Get offf hte bus, Al.

DIDN'T REALIZE SO MANY RACISTS READ THIS BLOG!! EITHER THAT, OR EVERYONE WHO COMMENTED THAT THE PHOTO IS "NOT" RACIST IS STUPID AS SHIT!!!!!!!

Yeah. everyone but you I guess. I suppose you hold moral authority over everyone here and if we disagree we are racist?--you may be.
It doesn' say anything about Pres. Obama or any other prominent black leader. TRAVIS the chimp was shot by cops the day before.

The bill was not written by Pres. Obama--it took a group of people. Wether those people belong in a carnival show is a matter of disussion for another time.

Victimhood is one of the main reasons racist barriers were so hard to break through. Eric Holder's comments about the US being a "nation of cowards" with respect to race was out of line and flies in the face of our newly elected president. The re are just too many prominent black leaders in politics and business for your comment to hold water.

Get educated and you will succeed.
Mathematics, Chemistry, proper language skills and grammar are ignorant of race and gender.

Oh get over it already. No one was offended when they bashed President Bush for 8 years, somehow that was different. This stimulous bill is anything BUT!! Thats what they should be talking about. The billions that go to acorn, and how they snuck in socialized medicine. You want the gov't to decide who lives and who dies? Well now thats what you have. Maybe the new "transparent" gov't should have explained that to you before rushing this emergency bill through. BTW, they don't much value life either. Tom Daschle might be out, but his ideas are in. Ideas like, if you are elderly-accept the fact that your going to die. Prolonging your life is just too costly. Dont believe me? research!!
obama says, we are in the new era of responsibility. So why do we have to pay for everyones mistakes, bailing out morgages? and everyone is worried about obama looking like a chimp. that is the least of our problems. he wanted to be the president, he better learn to take the bee shit with the honey.
We will be cuba in 10 years.

I agree. Tom Daschle wrote a book titled "critical". His lobbyist wife made millions from pharmaceutical companies and in his book Tom wrote about forcing socialized healthcare through the system by-passing congress.
It's all in there for everyone to see.

Eric Holder should go make his "Coward" speech at Gettysburg--Peach Orchard, Little Round Top, Devils Den, I'm not particular.
