The cutest of the Monkee's was Peter Tork, not Davy Jones, I don't care what Marcia Brady said, and Peter is now fighting a rare form of cancer. He had surgery on Wednesday and is having radiation.
*
Tork, 67, said he has a slow-growing form of head and neck cancer, Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma. Although it is most frequently found in the salivary glands, Tork's cancer was discovered on the lower region of the tongue."It's a bad news, good news situation," Tork says. "It's so rare a combination (on the tongue) that there isn't a lot of experience among the medical community about this particular combination. On the other hand, the type of cancer it is, never mind the location, is somewhat well known, and the prognosis, I'm told, is good."

I hope it's very good. Peter says he's very grateful for the support of his fans. Count me in. I still love you, Peter Tork! Get well soon.

I loved loved loved the Monkees back in the day! So sorry to hear of Peters illness.
Sad. Peter was TOTALLY my favorite when I was a young girl. I NEVER saw anything in Davey, Mickey was goofy and, at the time, I didn't understand the genius of Mike Nesmith (who's mom invented White-Out).
Sending good thoughts and wishes to peter.
Sixty-seven.
Dang.
Wow.. it's amazing how many of us found Peter to be the "cutest" Monkee. "Bruce'sWife"-- I think you really hit the nail on the head with your analysis of the group.
I was a mere 'tween at the time, but my little friends and I were just crazy over the Monkees... the music, the tv show.. their photos in Tiger Beat!
Maybe because the other guys were the more outspoken and definitely more popular, we went wild for Peter... the 'quiet' one!
You're in our thoughts right now, Peter. Get well soon.
Very sad and my best wishes.
Peter was my favorite - thanks for including this post about him.
...they were cute. However, they were each hired separately by a studio to be in this music phenomena ala Beatles. They did not sing or play the instruments for their songs (many of which were catchy and a couple quite good) - the songs were recorded by studio people.
And, yes, I agree about Pete. He had this sideways look he did that made be practically faint. smile.
They did sing some and Nesmith wrote some stuff. They all played a little except Davy who played nothing, not even badly..oh wait, he had his tamborine..lol. Anyhow, who cares? They were cute and responsible for getting some decent tunes out somehow. Manufactured groups also include the Spice Girls and the Pussycat Dolls. Let's not even talk about Britney Spears and Katie Perry.
1:56 & DD: No. By the time Headquarters came out the Monkees were playing and writing almost everything themselves.

Also, love and blessings to Peter! <3
