Does Obama Have A Pair?

As you've no doubt heard, Somali pirates have taken an American ship, and are currently holding the captain hostage on a lifeboat. The captain, Richard Phillips, tried to escape once but was recaptured. The US has sent gunships to the area but we're basically just sitting there with pencils up our asses waiting to see what will happen. Meanwhile, the Somalis have called in other kidnapped ships full of pirate reinforcements. And where is our president during all this? Eating pizza cooked by a chef he had flown in from St. Louis. Oh, and he's "monitoring the situation." Well, that's reassuring.

Question: Why does the captain of this freighter have more gumption than the entire United States government put together? Why has the US done nothing about the Somali pirate problem despite warnings that a hostage situation like this was inevitable? Why does Barack Obama bow to the king of Saudi Arabia then stand idly by while a bunch of scumbag pirates thumb their noses at us and threaten to kill an American citizen? Would Thomas Jefferson have put up with this? Teddy Roosevelt? Ronald Reagan?

(Thanks Sprite for the help)

Thomas Jefferson sent Marines in 1804 to exterminate Barbary Coast Pirates in the coast of Tripoli (present day Libya). I can't believe we didn't light-up the small vessel when the captain jumped out and tried to swim for the US Navy ship. We are becoming a pre 9/11 nation again. Send a message to the Pirates; "United States of America will not stand for any of its citizens to be harmed". Sharia law is draconian, and our response needs to match their level of reasoning; Marines on the ground dismanteling the operations network inland, and Navy/Predator drone combat patrols for direct action support against pirate motherships and international commerce protection through the area from the Gulf of aden to the Suez canal.

Richard Phillips looks kind. I hope he gets home okay.

Yes President Obama bowed (deeply) contrary to the White House press release. Disgusting and shameful show of weakness and capitulation to a forein potentate. Holding hands was disgusting when Bush did it; bowing like a geisha is even more distasteful.

And by the way; where do they buy their gifts for royalty; Best Buy?. An ipod and dvd's that won't play in Europe sounds like re-gifting or stupidity. Oh yeah, madeleine Albright brought Kim Yung Il a Michael Jordan autographed basket ball, so it must be stupidity.

Is anyone here old enough to remember when Jimmy Carter, the most ineffectual president in my lifetime, refused to go into Iran for our embassy people who had been taken hostage? If he had gone in with the full force of the USA -- are you friggin' kiddin gme here, taking Americans hostage, well, here ya go -- life now would be so much different.

I can't believe we haven't gotten this captain back and shown these pirates and those like them what the hell happens when you mess with the United States. Once and for all. You don't keep letting a bully take shots. You teach him what happens if he DARES to take a shot at you!

Jimmy Carter gave a ransom of 8 billion dollars which gave birth to the current regime in Iran and Hizb-Allah and Hamas. Thanks Jimmy.

I was 8 in 1979. I still remember how thick the air was with loathing for Carter.

For all your gutting comments about Canada, it was Canadian Military that went into Iran during that crisis.

Good post Crabbie and i think you answered your querstion with the flowen in chef for pizza comment. I think we might be better off if we let the First Lady take a crack at it.

Why doesn't someone just take a gun and shoot the stupid inflatable raft these douchebags are using when they see them coming? Problem solved. They'll rethink their choices in life when they're dogpaddling around in the middle of the freaking ocean. What does it say about us when a bunch of guys in a turtle pool are overtaking these huge ships?

Anonymous said...

Very intresting information to hear at that link 5:17. Thanks.

Lol @ Kate's turtle pool. True though.

I agree with DD, Capt Phillips looks like a kindly soul I hope he isn't suffering and that help comes in some form for him soon.

From what I understand, the captain jumped overboard when he saw a moments lapse from the pirates, and that this happened in the middle of the night, and our ships were afraid of killing him accidentally if they attempted to recover him.
I don't know why nothing has been done about the pirate crisis. It certainly has been common knowledge for some time. Article in either National Geographic or Smithsonian (can't remember which) some months ago. Apparently there is often a traitor on board, who assists with timing. I'm surprised the captain is still alive.

I seriously doubt the US and our President are sitting by, eating fucking pizza and scratching their collective scrotums! Come on people, do you think they are going to just act like 14 years old with a hard on in this situation? Sure, lets just blow the little life boat out of the water and kill the captain while we are it! Not easy to save one guy stuck on a lifeboat with a gun to his head! I am damn sure they gotta figure out the right way to take these fuckers out without loosing the captains life.

Dear Ali,
No, I'm sure nobody in charge is sitting around scratching anything instead of finding a solution to this pirate problem. My frustration is that the more you let other countries and extremists and pirates, etc., think you are loathe to jump in with both feet to save your people, the more they will push you. When we were attacked on 9/11 I was amazed, weren't you, that someone thought they could get away with doing that to the United States. But they did. They weren't blown back into the stone age as many people thought they should be. We didn't put every soldier on Bin Laden the way we should have.

So I think some of us are just frustrated that this or any group thinks they can now push the U.S. around and get away with it. We need to send a hard message -- don't fuck with us or else.

These kidnappings are just going to keep on happening. A message needs to be sent, and it needs to be sent loud and clear. These type of crimes against humanity cannot be tolerated. Secure the safe release of Captain Phillips and then turn around and blow these suckers off the face of the map!

Anonymous said...

bitter about the elections?? i am a registered democrat and even i voted for mccain. he was the lesser of two evils.. JUST like bush & kerry. NOBODY wanted bush.. he was just less of a threat to our country than kerry was. obama is a man who served 74 days in the senate. he is a fucking community organizer for fuck's sake!! who the hell wants a man like that to be president!? and please do not play the race card. i am for any race as commander in chief.. as long as he is the best man for the job. obama is not that man.

Anonymous said...

I'm in the same boat with 7:55.I never did understand why someone with next to no experience was given the ticket over someone whos had 35yrs experience in the political pool. So you choose the lesser of two evils and go with McCain.

Anonymous said...

agreeing with DD, he looks like a good man. may God protect him, cause Obama certainly isn't concerned.

=======

Get your head out of your ass. Anyone in this country who, --regardless of the candidate-- votes strictly along party lines simply to maintain loyalty to their jacked-up, misbegotten affiliation deserves to lose his right to vote at all.
The political climate has vastly changed. If a man with virtually NO experience whatsoever can get on the presidential ticket and actually WIN? ANYONE can. And that's far more frightening than any drawling, alcoholic, clumsy Texan with foot-in-mouth-disease.

As a lifelong Democrat, I knew it at the time of the election every bit as much as I know it now. As has been said, sometimes it boils down to voting for the lesser of two evils. Obama's checkered history was full of bad deals, scandalous associations and political inexperience. But voters were blinded by the promise of "CHANGE". There's an old saying; Better the evil you KNOW-- than the evil you don't. It certainly holds true for the Presidential election of 2008.

Yeah, because Obama doesn't have a MT EVEREST OF UTTER SHIT LEFT OVER FROM THE LAST ADMINISTRATION to keep him busy now. Oh no, he's just sitting around eating pizza. You people are so incredibly idiotic that it's unbelievable.

Anonymous said...

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU 11:24!!!!

P.S. THIS ISN'T A POLITICAL BLOG YOU DIPSHITS!!

P.S.S. WHY ARE REPUBLICANS WASTING THEIR VALUABLE *cough* TIME ON DD?! YOU SHOULD BE OUT SAVING THE WORLD! (OR AT LEAST FIGHTING PIRATES)!

Anonymous said...

11:24 & 11:36 the only ones hung up on party affiliations are you guys. Everyone else is just voicing an opinion and expressing their concerns about the new presidents actions, and lack of them in some instances.

Now a chef being flown in from St Louis to make a damn pizza for someone who's NOT taking action but waiting to see what happens screams of hollywood tainted celeb bs to me.

Don't you think it's just a tad hypocritical & wastful considering the financial mess we're all in, to spend our tax money on flying in a damn chef to make a flacken pizza?

Should read - screams of hollywood tainted selfintitled celeb bs to me.

yeah, life would be different. With 1 million dead american soldiers. Iran had one of the biggest armies back then - and thanks to USA the most advanced weapons. Don't forget the USA were giving all that stuff for free to the Shah - ans Khomenei didn't gave it back.

Anonymous said...

11:24 and 11:36, what does that tripe you spout have to do with the hostage situation? I know your a groupie. Personally I give a shit about Dem or Repubs. Most politicians just blow hot air and care nothing for the common man. I want Obama to protect americans.

Major Majormajor said...

Crabbie certainly stirred up a POOP storm.

Anonymous said...

Just like with the economy before the elections; Obama ain't saying shit about the pirate crisis. No message to the pirates, no message to other pirates, no warnings of death to anyone harming Americans. It's not political, It's patriotic.

Anonymous said...

I trust in our government on issues like this enough to know that they know FAR more than I do about this situation. Its frustrating, yes, but as I have NO background in dealing with pirates, I will let the elected officials in charge of our country- democracy at its finest- do what they think is best. A united front is far better and than a divided country.

Anonymous said...

Go back and read your posts before the election Crabbie. BHO was suppose to be the world's problem solver and messiah. What a joke he has turned out to be. Next time educate yourselves before you vote

Anonymous said...

11:36 what united front? There is no front let alone a united one. That's the point.

Whats most pathetic of all, the French stormed one of the pirate ships because they were threating to kill all the hostages onboard. In the process on hostage was killed, but the french disabled the vessel and killed 2 of the pirates.

The French stormed a ship, barack bows to the floor and wastes money on having a chef make special pizza while he's overseas. The French people, the French. Embarassed yet?

That "Big Labor" link is just big business propaganda.
They're afraid that the American worker will regain the labor unions, along with the benefits they provided, that they so carefully and methodically tore down during the Reagan years.
More neo-con bullshit.
If you fall for it, you deserve to.

Kate said...

4:31, they had already killed 5 hostages, including a child, when they conducted the raid. But I agree with your point. Don't we have some Navy Seals who can scuba to the boat under cover of night, and silently slit those fucker's throats all at once? I just don't understand why that can't be done.

Anonymous said...

4:31-It can be done but the Commander -in- chief doesn't have the balls to do it

prince obama and his pussy cronies won't do anything 'cause he don't wanna upset the world, ya know?!?!

'The American captain of a cargo ship jumped to freedom today after being held by pirates on a lifeboat off the coast of Somalia, according to a senior U.S. official. U.S. Navy SEALs shot and killed three of his four captors'

Happy now all you idiots? Oh look, our country is actually smarter than all of us idiots who sit around and type comments on a blog.

Anonymous said...

4:11 that Capt gave himself up to save his crew, he's a true blue hero. But his country left him to suffer and question his fate for 5 damn days with not even so much as a "we are doing all we can" statement, while Bamma baby "monitored" the situation over a pizza that cost thousands. Your the idiot if you blindly play follower the leader.

Anonymous said...

Really? Follow the leader? I didn't see you going out and trying to defeat the pirates. Oh, and its not 'your', its you're. As in 'you are'.
Or maybe you're not following the leader on punctuation and spelling?

Anonymous said...

punctuation and spelling?

really?

could you get any more childish with the i don't see you defeating the pirates?

for fuck sake grow up and realize when something is directed at you as a individual on a personal level, which nothing was, apparently you need that pointed out, and when it's someones goddamn opinion based on what they see and hear in the news.

people like you make the world a misery.

Anonymous said...

That's a big stretch of ocean, even though it looks little on the map. The pirates know how to sneak up on ships in the dark and grapple their way to the decks pretty easily.

Usually the ships are huge cargo ships and the crews are small so nobody notices until it's too late.

Any captain and crew that sails those waters absolutely understands the risk. It's been happening to bunches of other countries' ships for a long time and I guess it's the U.S.A's turn. Just because we're big and powerful doesn't mean we're exempt. Usually the pirates get away with some "booty" (if I may use a pirate term) and go away.

Somalia has never been what I would call a stable country, at least in my life time, and it's full of desperate people who do desperate things. Piracy apparently has a certain cache there, as well, since it's considered profitable and "brave." Women wanna marry these guys like you wouldn't believe!

Anonymous said...

I never wanted to defeat the pirates. That was you who blamed me for following the leader. That is a personal attack, not based on the media. And what I put was not an opinion, it was a quote from CNN. And you bet I'm going to make fun of your punctuation and spelling when it points out that you're- not your- an idiot.

Anonymous said...

First of all, Crabbie is an idiot when it comes to sensationalized politics like this... Sure, with SO many problems on the president right now, some ship captain should be number one priority. Right. Sorry ship captain, you are no better than the family down the street who is having their house foreclosed on.

But then, LOW AND BEHOLD, shit was taken care of.

Look, idiots, the fucking media and (especially) you DON'T NEED to be told what the fuck is going on with hostage situation.
Yeah, it would be such a good a idea to tell EVERYONE what is going on, so they know and can prepare for the ships or whatever is coming at them.

You're (that is you are, I can't believe people still fuck that one up) RETARDED.

Anonymous said...

And also, 'a individual' -- when two vowels are placed together, it would be 'an'. As in, an individual. FYI.

Anonymous said...

Obama did the right thing here. The hostage is safe and home. No bitch from me. Now for the english teacher correcting the posts....come on...COME ON...really...Thats all you have to offer????? Weak, really, just weak. Grasping at straws trying to smack back. Just admit defeat in the witty replies. Because that was just silly.
