Someone mentioned this interview in comments. It IS a very famous interview and I don't know what's wrong with Farrah here. She was very nervous and may have been stoned. Farrah has never been accused of having a drug problem, as far as I know, and she is not a stupid woman. She attended University of Texas in Austin, graduating with a degree in Microbiology. She also studied art and clearly has a knowledge of the subject. Yet in this clip, she thought David's set was real and couldn't remember words like "foot" or "feet." I don't know what happened here, but, it shows how gracious Letterman can be.
I can't be the only person with these problems: I have depersonalization, an anxiety disorder which makes me feel I'm always in a dream. Whenever I feel stressed, it kicks really hard and I feel barely connected to the world. There's a variety of symptoms associated with it. According to the doctor who studied it, it's much more likely to occur in people with higher than average intelliegence. (But you'd probably think I was a half-wit or stoned a lot of the time - we even think the other depersonalization -ers seem weird! How's that for double standard?)
I also have Multiple Chemical Sensitivity which affects the central nervous system in all kinds of ways. Inhaling chemical scent affects me badly since it quickly disturbs the hypothalamus, which controls memory and emotion.
Paula Abdul and FF might have one or both of these problems too, though I get nauseous a lot and can't be in smelly situations. But they act a little like I do.
My Aunt acted completely loopy for years before she was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer. She honestly acted like she was high or in a mild state of psychosis-very aloof. She was convinced something was wrong with her but couldn't figure it out, and the family was supportive although many thought she was just crazy. She was finally then diagnosed when it had reached stage 4 and passed away within a year. It makes you wonder people that act like this if there isn't something else wrong...something around the corner, like cancer or an autoimmune disease where there are red flags years beforehand but nobody pays attention.
ok i did 4.18 of it. and that really was too long for someone as intelligent as i. but i have to say she was drugged to the eyeballs and it only highlighted the fact that she is a totally narcissistic type. i read somewhere that she has really bad problems with the fact that she ceased to be a sex symbol cause she got old and outdated. given that its probably a godsend that she is being put out of her misery because she is not one who could cope with being 80. but she did strive to keep us all panting with lust for her and probably succeeded. i know she was a hit with my kid and his mates when they were 16, a decade ago. she did a clay sculpture nude and ended up a hot mess covered in clay. no mean feat for a 50 year old so madonna, eat your heart out. i had been thinking of that hot mess image lately in connection with the recent cindy crawford pictures. what is she covered in soap or cream or sperm or something? anyway dd i wanted to post about urban but some of the comments were just too off for me to be seen conversing with them, i guess when you see their comments you will delete them. so i will say it here away from that scum....... it was good old aussie shit!!!!! nothin wrong with that. btw i'm off to laos tomorrow so see you in about three weeks.
As for Farrah, yeah, she'd just had some plastic surgery at that time and was looking hot again after being a real hag.I think she had a rough time growing older. I suppose it's hard not living up to a poster eveyone had in their dorm room when you're 50. I wish her well, she always seemed sweet. No one has ever called Farrah a bitch or a diva.
RE: Farrah as a narcissist - you can desire attention without being a narcissist. Everyone wants appropriate attention. I agree with DD and since we're about the same age, we've seen FF in and out of the news, etc. and she's never seemed obnoxious or sneaky or conceited. She was an icon who had to age and she's still cute, but it's hard to age. If you haven't done it yet, you'll see.
anon 21.14 me aged? do the maths.... my son was 16 ten years ago and he was born when i was 34. its sad that these people have to stay young for a living. i feel lucky that i can go grey, saggy and plump while holding onto love, friends and my job. farrah's world might have been great when she was young and beautiful but, if we live out our full live expectancy, we are old for much longer than we are young so i'll take my pedestrian existence over a celeb glamour life anyday.
I remember seeing that interview and having the same thoughts about Farrah as lia had (has). It seemed to me that the endless nervous twitching was being employed as sort of a smoke screen to keep people from focusing too long on the fact that she was aging. It would've been so much better if she could have just sat serenely, saying, "I look pretty damn good for 50 something - worship me!" It's much more dignified and fitting for that age than to be endlessly locked in bouncy teen mode, but as lia said, it's hard to lose beauty - especially when you've been a great beauty, and basically been famous for that.
And she DOES look fucking great. Wish I looked that good at 50. Clearly the poor thing has serious issues with her self-image if she's nervous about NOT looking good. Sad because she does seem very sweet.

The entire interview can be found on you tube. Just type in David Letterman Farrah Fawcett.

Nervous, yes; stoned, probably; but I think she comes off as pretty adorable, in a dumb blonde way.
I love my Oz friends..still don't like Urban.
