Civilized dinner

Black bean and steamed chicken wrap with onion, cheese and lots of tomato's. Unfortunately, that thing was huge and I could only eat half. For dessert, pumpkin pie (store bought, but, pretty good) with whipped cream. Those are some of my Jane Ray Depression dishes. The tablecloth is original too and I spilled coffee on it, there by the pie dish. Oh, well. That's what bleach is for. See, I'm not always disgusting. I even used a paper towel for a napkin. That's all I had on hand and if you come here, that's the way it will probably be.

mmmm I love pumpkin pie. It is not just for thanksgiving in our house either! OH and pumpkin cheesecake and pumpkin bars with cream cheese frosting and pumpkin bread and pumpkin soup.....ooo wait.. sorry...got a little carried away, I'm hungry!

The local store is having a contest with the next town to see who can sell the most pumpkin pie. The loser has to buy band uniforms or some shit. Whatever. You know how it is.

WOW It cooled off tonight and I actually cooked a civilized dinner also. First time in days. Did a little stirfry with shrimp, roasted red bell pepper, zuck, garlic, red pepper flakes, juice of a lemon and fresh thyme served on a pile of angle hair pasta. YUM Made enough for tomorrow too. Love you china. I ate off Fiestaware. Everyone is so araid of real table linens...stoopid...you're right that's what bleach is for. I bet you iron every once in awhile?

LOL.. strange timing, but there's some motivation.

Dirty Disher said...

Paula Deen is my idol. I wish she was my mom. Yesterday she made crawfish etouffe and beignets with her bro inlaw from New Orleans... I about died, but licked the tv first.

Biz....I saw that too. Did you see how much butter she used LOL No butter police at her house.

I love your dishes, I'm assuming the sliced tomatoes are from your garden but are the cherry tomatoes also? do you have to grow them differently? I live in FL and I really wanted to start a fruit and veggie garden this year but I haven't had the time to research what will grow in this heat. I think corn is probably out of the question, but I was thinking maybe watermelons and tomatoes....anyone out there have some advice?

Yummy! That looks great! All was missing was some cucumbers. My son walked by and saw the pumpkin pie, he said it looked great. He would eat pumpkin pie everyday.

Dirty Disher said...

Yes, all the Tomatos were grown here in my garden. Cherry, grape and regular sized Tomatoes are all grown the same way, same dirt, side by side.

You could try some corn, even if you don't have a lot of space. Just plant it very close, in small plots or even little circles (think Pampas Grass), it does fine. Watermelons are space hoggers, but they're fun and easy.

Dirty Disher said...

Kerri, I have cukes too. They just don't thrill me. I like the vines though, they're pretty.

Dirty Disher said...

Corina, I have no idea. All my silverware and knives are mismatched junk from rumage sales.

Dirty Disher said...

No, 11:28:00, milk glass is a different thing. Those are Fire King, 1930's.

They do have some pretty vines. I think it must be a law here in the south for the cucumbers to be next to the tomatoes for all meals. I'm still jealous of that green thumb. I'm getting my kids some cherry tomato plants to grow thier own, they love them and love the idea of growing their own.

You are always welcome at my home as well and Earl Gray is Web Boy's favorite tea so I always have it on hand. I will even make you cookies. Any kind you want. I am a good cookie maker!

Dirty Disher said...

Wooooo! Oatmeal please, no raisins. I can't bake cookies. I'm cookie impared.

I always have those 'napkins on a roll' handy. Less laundry. Your dinner looks very delicious and civilized, Pat.

I love pumpkin anything too especially cheesecake. But I have a killer recipe for pumpkin soup I make on winter days. Did you know some brands of plum sauces contain more pumpkin than plums? Pumpkin seeds are delicious...Pumpkin is bomb.

A friend of mine has a recipe for Earl Grey dinner rolls. She made them once, they were really good. I should get her recipe. Jean-Luc drank it - hot. I love Earl Grey. I have the loose leaves you have to use a tea ball/diffuser with. Dunno why, that's the way it was made for me the first time I tried it as a teenager and I've always had it that way ever since. It's an experience.

Earl Grey dinner rolls????? I'm going to go google that.

iwhyawli & her twat patrol think people are actually afraid of her! A chewed up piece of gum on the ground has more usefullnes than iwhyawli & her band of dysfunctional dipshits! I think they have pity confused with fear.

We put corn, black beans, cilantro, and refried beans in them for the Vegan girl. (i eat it that way too). Add grilled chicken for hubs and youngest.
Couple slices of avocado in there for good measure.

Pat, Pumpkin pie and tomatoes--OMG. I used to make a cuke salad with mayo, onion, dill, and little bit of wine vinegar--was delish, too.

Love your little house. Love the vintage dishes, etc. I read many years ago that the vintage linens would be in vogue and would cost a mint. They were right--I gag at the prices in the antique stores.

Dirty Disher said...

Coyote, they're still cheap around here. I pick them up all the time and I use them.

Looks yummy-I like to make a nice dinner for just myself and eat it on nice dishes as well. But my favorite is a little rectangle platter for one with a spot for a cup on it. I make sandwiches and put soup in it. Or cookies and milk, tea and toast, etc. I bet you would love it.

10doll said...

10:58 Coyote- A "Cuke salad"? What does that mean? It's a new one for me.

yummy both look really good. Love pumpkin pie and I have made many from scratch and many are store bought and I think with pumpkin pie, the store bought ones are just as good usually as the home made.

Maybe it is because there is only 1 layer of crust and that could make a difference.

Probs you found a recipe for the rolls but if not here's a link

http://www.ifood.tv/recipe/early_grey_dinner_rolls

Not sure what they'd be like. My friend's recipe came from the booklet that came with her bread maker.

Pat, and here I thought there was something wrong with me. I suck with cookies too. I can bake anything, but cookies, they fail.
