Escaping Punkins

I went for a walk around the neighborhood this evening and I found these Pumpkins escaping from a little weedy garden. They'd almost made it to the street and I found that funny for some reason. That's pavement in that top pic. See? Made me laugh. There are few things as beautiful as a ripe pumpkin. I wonder how come they have fully ripe pumpkins and I have none at all? Makes me wonder if they were green house grown plants or what? I just planted seeds. Maybe I should look real carefully tomorrow and see if I have any and missed them. They could be hiding out there. Anyway, aren't they pretty? It's way too early for Halloween, so I guess some one's gonna make a pie.

There is a huge pumpkin farm near my house where I always buy my fall gourds & pumpkins etc. Their fields are still just greenery. It's all about timing. If you wanna grow pumpkins for money you have to time it with Halloween. Remember this "When there's frost on the pumkin, it's peter dunkin' time". My aunt & uncle who had 6 kids, used to say that for some reason. Go figure. I never really got it. But frost = autumn.

sometimes pumpkins, melons, etc will just be 'there' when you didn't notice them before...it's like they grow that big overnight sometimes!
