Peggy read on the blog that I was out of smokes and showed up with a pack. How cool is that? Thank you, Peg. I have several friends that are real friends. They accept my oddness and are always there. There aren't many of them, but, I don't need many.I'd also like to apologize to any of my regular clients who couldn't get in today. I know some of you read here. It was a helluva day. There seemed to be a line a mile long. I'm exhauseted-ish. Lissa wasn't here when I got home and no one called to say why. But, I really am beat, so a weekend alone isn't hurting my feelings. DIL has a new family now, maybe she doesn't want to bring Lis here every weekend. I should talk to her about it and get it straightened out. I am not opposed to a weekend off once in awhile.

I bought a new purse to celebrate my good fortune today. It's yellow. I think I'll go rent the True Blood series and watch it all at once. Cher (another great friend) told me I would like it and I watched a little on You Tube last night and I think she's right.

True Blood rocks and it's not just about vamps ;)
You have 'cyber friends' too, Pat.
My daughter is getting cable on Minday. And a year of free HBO! All of them. She's excited about that show & Entourage. I dont have HBO either. Enjoy! Glad you had an amazing day at work! Wow! Thats great! I think ppl are very insecure now and want any hope they can get. I hope you are one of those that only tells positive news. How does that work. If something awful comes up, do you tell? Gawd, I would hate that. I cant see you making anyone leave you upset. It just doesnt seem like you.
Roxanne
Minday??? WTH? hahaha, but I like it!
Rox
Anyone who shows up with a pack of cigs when aware of the fact that you are jonesing for nicotine after having turned every purse in your closet inside out and shaken it over the kitchen table to catch the crumbs of tobacco so you can roll the remnants in a square of toilet tissue held together by scotch tape is a true friend, they don't come any better than that.
and p.s., a new purse is always good to lift ones spirits (you go girl !!)whether its Gucci or a Walmart special, somehow a shiny new handbag always makes us girls feel prettier, skinnier and sexier as we sling it across our shoulder. Who needs the adulation of walking the red carpet for a Hollywood premiere when you have a new purse instead? (giggles)
A true friend will bring you cigs and/or a coffee when you really need it.
Eleven years ago when I got our first family computer, I never thought that I could be friends with people on the internet. I did not really get it. My oldest claimed she had all of these close friends online and I thought she needed to go out and get RL friends too. (she did have both.
I am happy to say that I now get it. I have some really close friends that I will probably never ever meet in person. We talk all the time in emails to each other and I would miss it dearly if I did not have that.
Some of my RL friends still do not understand it when I talk about my buddy from Denver. But that is okay. She is all mine.
Pat, I have not been on here long enough but I count you as one of my must haves during the day.
To me you are becoming a nice friend. Thanks
Pat ROCKS!
I have to agree. I need my posie patch with Pat time...Sometimes just wandering in and seeing all the posies and veggies and stepping into the lives of others is very soothing for me.
The vibe in here is always sort of like going to a quiet retreat, with really good friends, wearing your favorite fadded jeans with no bra on and eating good chocolate with no guilt...
I saw the headline and the picture and I thought you meant those cats were your friends. I mean that nicely, I love cats. I have Asperger's, so I do not really have close human friends, but I love my animal friends. Cats especially. :)
Peggy is a saint of a friend. When I smoked, I used to go crazy if I found myself with cigs and no light!!! I'd be ready to rub two sticks together!
I quit 10 years ago before they hit $3 after many years of smoking. The job went smokeless, and it got harder and harder to find a place to smoke in public. I remember the day the mall went smokeless--I threw the little no smoking sign on the table clear across the food court (tantrum), left and swore I'd never be back--and I didn't go back. I think it's treating smokers like second class citizens. Smoking sections were not great, but to eliminate them was not acceptable, in my opinion. Once we went into business, I didn't pick them up again--I had kicked the habit.
Anyone can smoke in my home. I still remember that there was nothing like a cup of coffee and a cigarette in the morning (ahhhhh), and how can anyone have a drink without a cig??? People think they have to go outside in the cold of the winter and the heat of the summer. Not here!
My sister visited, recently, and was very hesitant to light up (she was going to smoke outside), but I wanted to enjoy her company. I told her the smoke would clear out while I was still missing her and until it did, it would be a reminder of the good time we shared. And, it was so good to have her here.
I smoked one with her, but it didn't bring back the craving. That's okay because I don't want the extra expense. The ashtrays are always out in my home, though.
You are welcome Pat. I know you would have done the same for me! :-)(When I think about all the times you listen to me bitch and moan about endless trivial bullshit..... I think I still owe you big time)
That's cool. I probably would have done the same, even though I would always say no, I end up giving in. I'm a sucker.
Coyote - "the job went smokeless", GAWD does that bring back memories!! 20 something years ago I worked as an operator at the phone company and everyone smoked at their desk. Its been so long I almost forgot it was ever allowed!
Love the cat pic PAT :)
Pat, last night was brutal for you. Enjoy your downtime tonight. ((((((((:))))))))
See? How could you ever think you were nothing?
I'm glad we've all found each other.
I like Nina. She hit my soul---no bra and good chocolate!!! The woman has a good heart!
Pat, does Lis' new family come with brothers and sisters? Make sure she knows we all care about her and want her to be happy.
Still don't know all of last night but it must have been one mell of a hess. Damn, you were going girl. Glad today was better.
Bella,
We had a period of about 6 months where we had smoking areas inside the building, then none. Some went outside to have a cigarette every now and then. I refused to walk to the "sidwalk of shame".
The majority of employees had campaigned for a smoke free workplace and won fair and square, but then complained that smokers were getting extra breaks. There were even complaints that the smokers were contaminating the air in the parking lot so that was stopped. It got ridiculous.
All the while, executives smoked behind closed doors and nothing was said.
I decided to hold an unlit cigarette because for me part of the habit was keeping my hands busy, but I was told that that wasn't allowed, either.
I think around the same time, the group insurance policy sent around questionnaires wanting to know who smoked and who didn't. I refused to fill it in because I didn't think what I did on my own time was any of the company's business. After a number of attempts, they gave up trying to intimidate me.
I have no problem with non-smokers not wanting smokers in their space. I do have a problem when that extends to not giving smokers a place to smoke. I also don't think it's right to tax cigarettes to the point that they have. They don't tax liquor in the same way and driving with a cigarette is not dangerous like driving under the influence is. That's a whole other story, however, and I fear if the new health plan goes through, smokers will suffer consequences.
All that said, I'm glad I quit, and I would advise any young person never to start.
Coyote...after I left Ma Bell I worked on my own for some time. When I went back into the corporate arena, I worked in a department that was very forgiving of smokers. I think I was there close to 6 months before someone politely pointed out that I was supposed to be punching out for all of those smoke breaks! oops... I do wish I had never picked up the habit, but sigh, it is what it is and I also would advise any young person to never start.
yep, you have friends DD!!! in person and on the net!!!
i've found that i have made some wonderful friendships on the net! many here!!!
Missed you today Pat. Now I see you were very busy. Hope your evening off is relaxing.
K
It's better to have a few good friends than have 100 crappy ones.
I would have bought you cigs Pat. How far is Iowa? :)
Now I've been smoking for 30 years. I'm a snob too. I only smoke London or Amsterdam tobacco which I hand roll. It's a lot cheaper and I buy in bulk. To cut down on my growing health issues, I ordered e-cigarettes. Its a battery operated cig that vaporizes nicotine so theres no smoke. It should be here early next week. I'll let you all know how it is. I'm convinced I feel like crap from smoking - but with school, I'm always binging on smokes and/or food due to the constant stress.
If the e-cigs suck, I'm sending them back.
DD- I'm all for helping to "celebrate in your good fortune",so I'll take a new purse as well in whatever color's available. I'm always here for you, babe.lol
DD-I agree with Cut(9:13) that you have "cyber friends" & a shitload of them.
9:19 Roxanne-
My kids both got cable in their bedrooms a few months ago & I only have 1 tiny question. If they both have it in their bedrooms, why in the blue blazes am I still having to watch wrestling on Mon,Fri & Thur, in the living room?lol
9:31 Anonymous laurajean- And most importantly,a purse is always the right s:00 Pize.
10:49 Anonymous Coyote- I've never smoked & my hubs quit about 10 years ago,but boy I wish my mom & dad would quit. That's one of those things, that you can't conquer unless YOU want to & not trying to stop because others want you to. When you said " nothing like a cup of coffee and a cigarette in the morning" I remembered after I married we had my hubs family over & when we cleaned up my hubs put half full cans in the fridge without knowing who's who's. Next morn grabbed one & I got a mouthful of cig....Lesson learned.
It seems I had a brain fart while typing that 9:45 comment. It should have read.."purse is always the right size."
Pat,
Show us your new purse (if you want to).
I am a huge handbag junkie. That is a vice I will never give up.
I like it
I'm your cyber friend too Pat!
I often say to my husband 'well on Pat's blog, she said...'
lol...i think he thinks im slightly nuts...
Liz (fromNZ)
Look at all my virtual friends! So cool.
Count me in , too! I am like most of you, I have a few friends who are good friends. I can't be bothered with any one who I can't relate to. Just too hard to listen to blah, blah, blah, I'd rather be alone.
Must hold true for cyber friends, too, because this is the only site I bother to read and respond to.
Sometimes I do post on one other, but not much.
(((((Pat))))))) That's cyber hugs! Of course you have friends on line :-)
My RL friends will see that I have like 50 friends on my Facebook page. They are like *who are they?* I smirk at them and say they are my peeps!
I like my online friends. Of course I cannot go out and shoot pool with them but I would not trade them for anything.
Pat, your blog is one that I read everyday. If you have not posted anything in awhile, I wonder if you are out in the garden or at work tweaking somebodies mojo.
You are at the top of my list..like reading emails and the newspaper online kinda list.
Heidi...same here! Pat you're actually at the top of my blog feed reader and I too worry if I don't see a post for awhile. Glad to hear you got to see Lissa this weekend :)
Love you dearly... would go out to buy you anything EXCEPT smokes :) Say hi to Peggy for me.... she's a sweetie...
The oldest guy in the world died today at 113 and his secret to longivity was "smoking, whiskey, and wild wild women". We go when it's our time :)
I'll say, escrowmama! My MIL lived to the ripe old age of 86. She died 4 months after quitting a 60 year smoking habit-- cold turkey. To those who said she quit too late I was quick to point out that she made it to eighty-six!
We should all hope to have such a long life.
