I wanted to put the old dog on here and show you her water bucket. Mom put it out there because she felt bad about what happened. The neighbors never did put water out. Anyway, I fill it every day. I thought you should know because like attracts like and I know some of you were as bothered as I was by that horrible incident. It will never happen again. I no longer trust them to take care of her.

What's that green box around the little dog's collar? That's new. Don't tell me that's a shock collar. ?

That dog has completly fucked up my fence. Her owners piss me off. Anyone else would offer to fix it. The dogs beg for attention. They want human company so bad, it hurts my heart. But, man, I don't want dogs. It's not fair.
Looks like a shock collar to me! And looks like that dog figured out how to get it off! LOL!!!
Daphne
Crap. Nevermind, I thought the dog had the collar hanging out of his mouth...i looked again. It's around his neck. But I'd be willing to bet that if the same people own that dog as own the other then the batteries are dead.
Daphne
They suck. He's just full of boundless energy and he's either inside getting yelled at or chained up driving me crazy. That's their solution? How about a walk? Duu. He's never been for one walk in the almost year I've lived here. Why can't they teach their kids to walk him? Hell, he could even be walked while they endlessly ride their bikes. He could keep up. He's a prisoner not a pet.
Same people, Daph. And they put them 20 feet from me. All that yard and they put them right next to me.
We used to have a MinPin (he passed away last year of old age) and we put a runner out in the yard. The tie out was long enough to reach the back patio door. We would open the door and clip it to his harness. Then he had free rein of the entire back yard. He could lay down or run where ever he wanted.
They could do that but they probably do not want to spend the big $20 for the equipment.
You are a good egg Pat. Most people would not take the time to care.
looks more like an anti-bark collar...and it looks awfully tight...
fucktards!!!
is it possible to call the humane society so that the dogs can be taken away?
i would call them everyday until they take the dogs away.
We have no humane society. I don;t think people understand where I live. I live in the sticks, literally.
"To report a case of animal cruelty, please contact your local law enforcement agency."
http://www.hsus.org/contact_us/
it doesn't hurt to try. if it really bothers you, you should try in every way possible to put a stop to this cruelty.
posting about it and making everyone feel bad about the situation isn't going to get those dogs taken care of. if you're serious about helping them, explore every route possible.
The collar is definitely too tight, and that breed is HYPER, they jump straight up into the air over and over like they are on a trampoline, definitely high maintanance dogs as far as exercise is concerned. They are also yappers, so it must be an anti-bark collar.
Pat I know you live in the sticks, but isn't there anything you can do to report these animal abusers, call into a radio show, write a letter to the paper... I know I'm over reaching here, but I just feel so bad for those dogs.
Is there any way you could talk to them or there is no communication at all???? Poor animals... damn it...
IF the humane society does do something, it will probably lead to the dogs being put to sleep. I don't know what's worse.
the humane society is the way to go. i don't agree with the commenter above this at all.
http://hsus.typepad.com/wayne/2009/06/gentle-ben.html
read this- the humane society doesn't kill animals like that.
People should not own yippy dogs if they cannot stand the yap.
I have had two so far. You either love them, teach them, and also learn to tolerate them, or do not get them at all.
My neighbors do not even realize I have a dog half the time. And she is a big mouth Chi.
Clip the fence and take the dogs. Fuck'em, what are they gonna do? Tell them they ran away.
12:26:00 PM, again, I don't think you understand what I'm saying and I'll try to explain again even though your comment made me angry. I HAVE called the cops, many times. The guy next door is their buddy, this is a TINY town. The cops won't even send a car out, I am considered a nusiance call. There is no humane society. We do have animal control, it is one special ed guy who's really cruel. He gets off on torturing cats and everyone knows it. I can not change the whole town. I think your comment was so preposterous and unfeeling.
Keri, where on Earth could I take the dogs? Dump them in the country? Jeez, this tiny town is so small the dogs know the whole town. When they've gotten lose, I've seen them running from one end to the other, literally. Everyone in this town knows everyone else. I can;t even find them a home around here, everyone would know I did it and it would cause a war.
People who abuse animals are in a league of their own. I hate those kind of people, fucking turds! I don't know what is worse, the abusers or the cops that consider it a nuisance call. I don't know if it will help DD, but maybe you could call the newspaper (if you have one around)or call the next town or city away from you. If they get a hold of a story about the cops not doing anything because they are their 'friends' they will make it really hard on the cops anyway. I don't know your situation, but it may be worth a shot. One of my friends neighbors did this type of thing and we took the dog and relocated it ourselves. He thought the dog ran away.
Lisa K, have you ever lived in a tiny country town? You really can't be making trouble and get away with it. The newspaper is a tiny little pamplet that posts volleyball team photos. Everyone is someone's brother or cousin. There is no justice here.
We don;t even have city cops, we have county cops. And like two cop cars. All the little towns around here are in cahoots. They call our cops when they need cops. It's a Hooterville mess.
You are doing the best that you can do. I do not live in a tiny town but a tiny city. The dog catcher is my neighbor..did I mention that I live on a tiny dead end street? LOL
We had a nuisance dog living here that he would not deal with. He did not want to piss off the renters that owned it because he lived so close. That dog finally got lose one day and bit a kid. Now he is in trouble.
So I get what you are saying on that level.
Looks like a shock collar or one of those 'invisible fence' things. I know it's frustrating, DD, but I guess all you can do is keep hoisting water over the fence. It's a total lose-lose situation for you and it's not right or fair. I get how stuff works in places like where you live and it is such an awful feeling to be so utterly powerless.
I agree with the other posters...that's an anti-bark collar. Can you get close enough to the dog to cut it off? Those things are expensive, so maybe they'll give it up if they keep losing em. Just a thought. Living in the south, I understand the "Good Ole Boy" network that you're dealing with. Best you can do is what you're doing. Poor dogs.
That is a shock collar. DD it sucks that you can't do much. That's the curse of living in the boonies. I love dogs, but I'm not particularly fond of the yappy/jumpy kind, that's why I don't own any.
and that poor shepherd. Aww man.
That little dog has bit several people. Bit em good too. Nothing was done, not even a fine. The only people he doesn't bite is them, me and Lis. Lis loves the little fucker and he's such a rebel..I like him too. But, I don't want dogs. I'm sick of being forced into commitments by assholes.
Yea, I understand what you are saying DD..that would suck big time. Just do what you can do and then you have done your best :)
What a sweet puppy face!
Yes, that looks like a shock collar. Probably the type that zaps him when he barks.
Nice.
Thank. They're such asssholes. They aren't home enough to shock him much if that's what it is. Fucking idiots.
I have the same problem with my neighbors. I live in between two families who own pitbulls and they chain their dogs up outside all day long. The dogs bark constantly and it is so annoying I can't even concentrate sometimes. I live in the country and want a little peace once in a while. I feel what is the point of having a pet if you are going to chain it up and ignore it all day? It's frustrating and sad to watch. I have never seen either of the dog's lazy ass owners walk them either! It's so ignorant.
i believe the word you're looking for is "infamous" not "imfamous"
It wasn't a word problem, it was a typo. All the letters are worn off my keyboard.
I know, Mary. WTF is the point of having a dog to tie outside? A dog is a companion animal. People are just so ignorant. I've owned two "dangerous" pitbulls no one wanted. They were both such sweet dogs. I found one a home and the other eventually died of old age. I got him in a drug bust, behind me..he was just left there on a chain. The cops didn't even care.
Seriously, they were like, fuck him, he's dangerous. No one came. I finally went and got him. I didn't know what else to do. No family, no water, no food...and chained. WTF?
And, adding more, as usual..you know what? He turned out to be a damn nice loyal dog. He trained up right away and wasn't dangerous at all.
spell check assholes
Me or them? Spell check doesn't work in titles. If you mean them, yes, it's annoying that someone assumed I didn't know common word. But, some people can't help themselves.
Hmmm, there's a mosquito buzzing. I hate fucking mosquitoes buzzing in my ear. I zap'em with may hand, done.
DD,
I always believed that animals respond to how they are treated. A well loved pet will be friendly and sweet. A mistreated pet will be angry and hurt. I have never thought to mistreat an animal but what amazes me is how people can mistreat their OWN animals! Just try to hang in there girl and maybe the neighbors will get the hint. Although somehow I doubt it.
Hey anon 4:52. If you are so worried about spellcheck, take your ass to another site. We can all read just fine.
Daphne
I forgot we're supposed to be ignoring the trolls.....
I don;t know if they're trolls. Spell checkers have their own problems.
Yep Mary and some of the mistreated ones can be so greatful at rescue they can make the best pets...and others never get over it. It's a fine line.
Thank you, Pat for watering those dogs. The owners may never thank you, but I, Tonya, do. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
You're welcome. That was nice. I have a feeling you are a fellow dog helper too.
That is exactly what it is. It's supposed to stop the dog from barking by giving it a gentle shock. The shocking can be increased if needed. It could also be to keep the dog in an invisible fence, but I don't see your neighbors putting out that much money. Isn't there a Human Society around? Also there is a cruelty to animal act that the police MUST enforce. Explain to Barney Fife that you will make a pest out of yourself until something is done. (And before anyone says anything, I'm married to a police officer---and I know some of them are plan lazy and many don't like dogs and cats because they take up too much of their time.) And if that doesn't work, that's when you call a TV station. It always works around here. Especially when they add the part, "We will follow up on this story later."
Oh! And you have to get a quote from the sheriff---it makes them feel like a good old boy!
And if that doesn't work, HIT THEM WITH THE WATER HOSE FULL FORCE! And just for good measure, let your neighbor wear the collar!
DD, I understand what you mean by a small town. And when everyone knows or is related to everyone else, their IQ just pops right out there for the world to see. And it really becomes a brain for anyone who cares and trys to chage things!
Could you maybe post (in the dark of the night) notices around time reminding people that animals need more water and shade now.
I know you're trying.
Another brain fart. Let your mom pass them out while she walks her dog!!
(It gets rid of your mom and accomplishes something at the same time.)
take a tip from bayou jane, it's what i posted around this same time yesterday and i stand by it now.
do something until the problem is resolved. just blogging about it to us who can't do anything does not help those dogs. if you care as much as you claim, take some action.
whats going to happen to those wonderful fellows in the horrible winter? Just left outside to freeze? If those doggies could talk they'd say Thank You! Their eyes say it! This is sad & wonderful at the same time. No water=dead dog, esp in Iowa in July! Those people will get theirs, it will happen.
