It's doesn't have wheels

Someone on here called me trailer trash, but, that's not accurate. My house has no wheels. It IS pretty shabby though. I clickered it a bit, playing with the pic. It has blocks on the front sides, stucco in the front and siding at the attic. It has a whole different siding at the back addition. It really looked like crap when I got it. It was painted all different colors because my son didn't care. It was just a place he stayed free when he was stuck here in Iowa. He loved California. Anyway, there is no way I can afford new siding that matches, so I just painted it all white and added some pink shutters and plantings. I told you it was shabby, but, it is also free. It's so nice not to have to pay a monthly mortgage bill. And it's solid, never leaks, nothing can creep in, it never floods even when everyone else is flooded. I tore out walls, so basically I have a huge kitchen and a huge living room with a loft. Oh, and a small bathroom on the right of that front window. I have 20' high ceilings in the living room and that's really weird. I can't reach the cobwebs in there. I don't care what people say, white trash living has it's benefits. Weird though, isn't it? It looks like a witches house in the trees. Or a grandma's house with no big bad wolf. It is both and that's where I live.

Love it DD!!
It's your home and that is all that matters!

Doesn't the front remind you of those old hotel cabins? I always liked those.

My son isn't the only person who died in it (he's just the only one I care about). There have been two others, that I know of. One suicide. So, yes, it's haunted and was before he got it. But, it's not a mean house at all.

It's darling. It's yours! You have made it into a cottage! Heating a room with 20 ft ceilings would be a bit** tho! Garrgh!!! Does it stay warm? I think it's cute. It is clean & sweet.

I love it, but it doesn't matter what I think. It's your home! You have done wonders. You are a wonder! A beautiful vessel of light. You make my days easier with your quips, you make me smile, and for that, I am grateful.

The addition is hard to heat. It's heated with a free standing furnace in the kitchen. Which was a real pain for my son and his wife because they love heat. I hate heat and only use it to keep the pipes from freezing, so it's perfect for me.

It's such a cute house and I love the way you wrote that entry. And you did say pink shutters right? Where can I get those?

Dirty Disher said...

My son's idea of lawn furniture was the seat out of an old Edsel. LMAO! That stuff went bye bye and I'm sure he got a kick out of it.

Dirty Disher said...

Naseem, I found the shutters in the neighbors trash when they remodled. I painted them raspberry pink because Lissa said to.

I can't believe how rude people are! hey i live in los angeles in a great neighborhood that wasn't really effected by the gentrification, so my house is would be considered Brown Trash by some, I am Peruvian! so eff them, at least you own it! it doesnt leak, it's cool in the summer, no air conditioning and warm in the winter and my stanky dogs love it!I love your house and all the gorgeous flowers and tomatoes, if you are in LA come on over and have some tea and a smoke!

Dirty Disher said...

I would love some tea! And I'll bet I'd love your house too.

I love your house, DD!!
It's beautiful and mysterious. It suits you.

I love your house too. It has a quirky charm about it, which is always appealing to me. Not to mention your garden is just amazing!

Thank you. The only part of it I hate is the kitchen sink. It is so old and ugly. It's from the 1940's and is NOT cool retro. It's just butt ugly. I am going to have to spend some money there.

TPT is a mentality, the way a person lives their life, the way they treat other people, etc., not what their home looks like. Look at J&K, they live in a McMansion, but look at the way they lead their lives-That is TPT!

Come on DD give us an untouched pic! I've been wanting to see it since you took it over. Inside too, please.

The front looks really charming. I love the level entry because when you open the door, the outdoors is right in your face.

If you think yours looked bad, I should sent you pics of mine! Vanity won't allow me to. Plus you wouldn't be able to see much behind the blackberry.

Vintage and retro are two words that make my heart beat faster. I think your home is very cute, and cottage-y. We bought a house that's a 50's bungalow and, um, it's a dump right now, but slowly we will fix it up and the last thing we want to do is lose it's character. Your yard is so much prettier than mine will ever be too, but like you, getting rid of the trash we "inherited" did wonders. We had an old motorhome towed and found a rusted car frame underneath..heeeee. We live in a neighbourhood where every other house around us is well-kept and there is half-a-million dollar job across the street, and I am well aware peeps look down their noses at us, but fuck everybody and their judgemental observations.

Dirty Disher said...

I know people judge and I think they're losers. We do have people on here that own real mansions and they don't judge, so fuck the stupid. And I will put an untouched pic on when I get a vintage screen door put on. Thought I had some once, but, they didn't fit my odd sized door. I'm still hunting and I will find it. And it will be real, not those new ones that look old.

6:02:00 PM, I'm so glad you're keeping the spirit of your home. Vintage is awesome. My sink isn't though. It's pukable. It's cast iron..can you believe that shit??

Dirty Disher said...

And next year the baby Forsythias and Hydrangea will take off. It'll look cooler then.

Cut On The Diagonal said...

DD;
I don't think I've ever seen a cast iron sink! Can (would) you take a pic of it for us? I feel kind of wrong for asking you to take pictures of your personal property, but. . .WOULD YA?

Also, I can't find the thread where you told how you cook squash (or was it zuccini?) with steak sauce. Would you please post that again? Me and the hubbs are dying to try that.

Dirty Disher said...

I dunno about that sink pic, it really is gross. I'll think about it. Have to bleach it first. It's covered in chipped enamel..like the old cook pots. Ugly fucker.

You just cut the Zuchs up chunky, don't peel them, and fry them over med heat with a little oil. When they start to get tender (takes only minutes) cover them with an A1 type sauce and toss them in it and let 'em cook up. It's delish. I use quite a bit of the steak sauce, I like it, but, that's up to you. I use the Dollar General brand, it tastes like A1, but, only costs a buck.

Anonymous said...

I bet your sink could be reglazed, you know like they do with bath tubs...

Cut On The Diagonal said...

DD;
Thanx for repeating that recipe.
It sounds so freaking yummy. I love steak sauce!!!
Don't even worry about the sink pic. I just was curious about it. I love all of the pics you post; it just makes me want more!!!

Dirty Disher said...

My sink can go fuck itself. I hate that ancient piece of shit.

Anonymous said...

I like your house. Some people might call that shappy shiek. It has some character.

A friend of mine had a rather ugly old style sink. She replaced it with a used stainless steel sink from a restaurant. It looks really nice and is very functional.

Anonymous said...

That just pisses me off.

A) Who cares? Really, who cares that much, about someone over the internet-that they don't know, to waste their time by saying that?

B) What happened to if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all? Seriously, is that a dying notion?

I don't like people. I like your wheel-less house tho and your garden even better:)

can't wait to see your house in it's 'natural state'! :P

it does look like a little cottage in the woods though...

quaint!

Pat, Is it hard to grow Hydrangeas? I want to try and grow some but am afraid I will kill them. I love those flowers. I was able to grow Irises at my other house without killing those, so just maybe (crosses fingers). I also live in the desert of hell with 115+ degree weather in summer. I do have a lot of trees and shading in my front and back yard though. I am also getting ready to do a small herb garden. I bought one of those aero gardens. Biggest piece of shit known to mankind.

I love your house. Hubby and I live in an RV and it's amusing how many people feel "superior" to us. We own our RV outright and travel whenever we wish. We owned a home before this and sold it to pursue this lifestyle..... but we still run across people (mired in debt) who think they're better than us. Um, yeah, enjoy that debt folks.

Give me no rent and no house payment and I will live with ghosts, the boogyman, the monster in the closet, hell even the people under the stairs and hang a sign that says Home Sweet Home.
I love it! I remember how you described the shape it was in when you took it over. I love seeing all that you have done and your garden is really great. My non-green thumb is so jealous.

People are retards! I guess it never occurs to me to get on somebodies blog and insult them. Maybe I'm missing out on all kinds of gratification...idiots.

Love your house. Can't get much better than FREE. Tell that to them pompous assholes getting a rent/house payment stuck up their ass every month...ha!

Unknown said...

Oh goodness!!! I love it, it has that ghostly look to it. I love it!!! Did I say I love it?

Tonya, we live in a 5th wheel trailer in my in-laws 10 acres. No household bills here either. Don't have to worry about mortgage, rent, power; and water is free from our well. It's a good size trailer, almost the size of a small studio, and we stay close to my husband's mom who is 84. We are happy where we live.

Dirty Disher said...

Thank goodness! I'm glad I'm not the only one who's happy where I live and doesn't think everyone needs a mansion and a mortgage!

Monica..Hydrangeas, I don't know if they grow in your area. I don't remember seeing any in the dessert area where I lived, but, what have you got to lose by trying it?

escrowmama said...

It looks so cozy! I bet you can make "home" wherever you live :)

svviking75 said...

I love your home. Anybody can live in a house, but where you live is called a HOME.

Bohemianmoon said...

It suits you :) I LOVE it!

Dirty Disher said...

I meant desert. Didn't I? Well I know you can't grow Hydrangeas in a pie. So there.

Anonymous said...

Its gorgeous. It looks like a nice place where my husband and I payed to vacation in Wisconsin. I would love a place like that@

Anonymous said...

Ah. And your (commentor's) remarks about everybody else living in mansions/tied by mortgage/not owning anything otherwise is not offensive either?
Geez, some of us do own personal property w/o any mortgage. The real estate we do hold mortgages on is the one that we rent out. It's a tax question. Try understand shades of gray, please.

Dirty Disher said...

They were talking about trolls here, not people like you.

Love it Pat!! Very quaint and sweet looking. I bet its very cozy inside too.

tonya - you are living my dream!! hubs and I aspire to do the rv thing full-time... hopefully some day :)

Anonymous said...

Anon 12:12 ... Seriously? Grasping at straws, don't you think? He point was obvious and what you're talking about had nothing to do with that. Relax.

Nadine said...

Hey maybe that is the cottage I dream about to take a sabbatical for a year...... :)

tonya said...

meissa, how cool that you are close to your MIL without living together? Sounds like a wonderful solution for everyone. We work part time for an RV park and live here for free so no utilities here either until we decide to move on.

Bella, it's a great life. Maybe we'll be "neighbors" one day!

I think it's adorable :-)
Totally the type of little house I've always wanted. BTW, in my old home in Michigan, someone killed themselves in my old bedroom. I didn't know about it until I was nearly 14 and my sister casually mentioned it. I guess if it was haunted, it was a calming spirit, because I loved my bedroom.

Nina said...

Your house is adorable and your yard is, "to die for!"

Be it a mansion, an apt, penthouse, a trailer, or a shack out back if a good heart and soul resides within it's a home to be repected and admired.

Pat, your house is that sort of home...

"I want to go to there. . ."

Pat, I love your house. We live in an old house also. It was built in 1903. We are the only ones on the street that has to put plastic on the windows and she creaks and groans but I still love her.

Fuck any negativity about it. If you are comfortable with it, that is all that matters.
