Lacy blue.....something

That blue flower is a wild flower that came up in this bed. I thought the foliage was pretty so I left them and they bloomed really pretty in with the regular flowers. That was a nice surprise. The nursery people thought it was a variety of wild geranium. I'm not sure, but, they are pretty. It's funny because I'm always looking for true blue flowers and they aren't that easy to find, and then a really nice one just pops up out of nowhere. They spaced themselves out nice too. I like to think it was a little gift from the garden fairies.

Those beautiful blue flowers are called Lobelia. I have them in alot of my containers, they are such a gorgeous color! I truly do love your garden. It puts such a smile on my face.

If I had that many flowers I would put one in my hair everyday.

Mary, nope. They aren't. I'm familiar with Lobelia. These are 3 foot high and have lace foliage, like carrots. They stumped me.

Hey Pat, did you want some white columbine seeds for next year?

Dirty Disher said...

I would love some Frimmy. Those were the prettiest thing! Thank you.

Just lovely. I need to change the flowers in my porch pots. The impatiens are looking really sickly. I think it is because our summer has been really sucky.

The stores already have mums for sale. I am thinking I want to buy some and try to plant so they will grow for next year.

I love mums, I got some the other day, but, you have to plan a place for them since they're a fall bloomer. I don't know where to put them yet.

I'd never leave the yard if I had flowers like that. I wouldn't have to I could live on the the veggies you have as well! You really are one amazing gardener.

Pat, Do you feed your flowers? They're beautiful!

I too love the bluest blue flowers, hydrangeas are my favorite (are those the big balls??) My neighbor has the prettiest ones.

Dirty Disher said...

I don't feed them, this is farm country and yep, hydrangeas are the big blue (or green, white or pink) balls. Mine is blooming again. It's so strange.

They say if you want the bluest hydrangea blossoms add aluminum to the soil. I read a mystery novel once where a car had been buried in a garden to hide a murder and body and the hydrangeas over that spot were very blue. That's how she figured out where the car went.

I don't think white ones will change colour according to this site.

Yep. True.

You add acid if you want pink ones.

"It's funny because I'm always looking for true blue flowers and they aren't that easy to find, and then a really nice one just pops up out of nowhere." - DD

Well I'm sure I don't have to tell YOU this DD but the reason those flowers grew there is in that sentence - "I'm always looking for true blue flowers..."

The law of manifestation at work. If only everyone knew it for a fact as we do...this law is a simple, rational law that is at work ALL THE TIME whether we know it or not. I wonder how different this world would be if this was taught in schools around the world...

Heidi: My impatiens have sucked ass this year too! I have them in nice planters with good drainage & not too much sun (they dont like alot of sun) but this year, they are bony and not getting very full & bloomed out. Minimal blooms and bony greenery. WTH? We have had a wet, cloudy summer. Some hot sunny days. Not many. Usually this only happens when they are at the end of the season. I wont plant them again next year.

Rox.

PS: I have nice gardens. I know it seems like I dont! But I do! Just some things have not worked out. LOL

DD;
Will you send some of those garden fairies my way??
A huge animal of some kind tromped through my flowers and took out exactly half my bed!! Dammit!!

Funny, my impatients are gorgeous this year(I'm on the East Coast). Have you ever tried Bloom Booster by MiracleGro? I use that mixed with regular Miracle Gro. I also pick off the dead flowers that stick to the leaves and buds.

Dirty Disher said...

Rox, hmm. Odd. Maybe the roots rotted from too much water?

Cut, a couple of months ago, I woke up to a friggin' cow in my flower bed. A friggin' cow! I was so mad. The flowers recovered though.

Dirty Disher said...

I found it! It's in with the Mo. wildflowers..a Larkspur!

Heidi said...

Yeah Rox, my impatients are really sickly looking this year. I plant them every year and never have a problem. They really do look like what they should at the end of the season.
I do not know what I want to replace with though. Something nice and cheap that will last thru August and September. I have these wire cone shaped cocoa lined hanging planters.

I thought they were larkspurs. My grandmother called them "rabbit-ears." They came up in her garden every year. I could never grow them. Still when I see them I think of her.

Dirty Disher said...

Rabbit ears..I can see that. They stick up on two sides like a bunnys ears. Cute.

I'd like to see a picture of those planters Heidi. They sound cool.

To all dishers-this is the first year I didn't plant anything. I think what all my fellow dishers are experiencing is the effects of global warming. Seriously. My peach tree produced nothing, not even a bloom and we did not have a late frost and the few years I couldn't give them away fast enough. ??????

I thought they were delphiniums at first. Whoever was looking for blue flowers, those are good too, and they're perennials.

DD, I know this is belated, but what a beautiful pic! Love it...and a COW in your flowers?? No way!! LOL...that's too funny! Hey, I just get boring ol' baby skunks in my (veggie) garden..;).
