Magical advice for witches?

People want me to teach about the things I do. It's taken me 50 years to accept what I do, so I doubt I could teach anything. I have a few thoughts that might help, I guess. First of all, the word witch is a toss about word. It encompasses many things, including silly little wanna be goth girls and women (and a few men) who are herbalists and healers and midwives, as well as Pagans and Wiccans and Druids and anyone who worships nature. It's a stupid word and to me, personally, it means I am someone who believes I can psychically manipulate energy. See? That's too long to say. It's easier to say witch. I get real sick of the crazy label though. I don't see how it's any different from the "norm" of beliefs. It gets me all pissy when someone who worships an ancient carpenter who claimed to be the son of god calls my beliefs stupid. I know, don't go there. But, really? Seems a pretty lame argument to me.
*
I believe in science. That's a fact. I believe in what can be proven. I am in a sad state then, you'd think. So what is this magical stuff? I don't know. I have no answer to that except things happen that I can't explain and they keep happening and I have learned to live with it. And work with it. Energy is real, at least I have that on my side. If man can make a light bulb and make that energy light your room, then what is unreasonable about me taking energy and manipulating it in another way? Good argument, huu?

I'd like to point out that magical tools and rituals are items that help you concentrate when you move energy. They are not magical by themselves and you do not need them. Besoms, Athames, cauldrons, candles, etc, etc..all fun. But, it is you who is moving the energy, it is you scooping it from around you and putting it through your hands and out the tools. Never depend on a tool or a ritual. Use them as items that put your focus where it needs to be. I have a few tools and books for sentiment, but, I keep them put away. I don't like drawing attention to what I am. Most people know or have a clue, but, I am not sky dancing in my front yard waving an Athame in a giant Pentacle. There's no need to make yourself a spectacle for rebellion. People who need your skills will find you. I try very hard to avoid pissing matches with the narrow minded over my beliefs. You will always run into people who think you worship Satan. That's their problem..avoid them.
*
Never try to prove your powers. People will ask this of you..ignore them. Give your skills only to those who ask for good reason. The rest are not important. If your energy is off that day and you can't throw a decent spell, the skeptics will say "I knew it was bullshit." And if you are on, and you throw a really decent spell, the skeptics will say "Coincidence!" You can't win with them, so stop trying. It is an embarrassment to all witches. That concludes todays lesson. LOL. Lissa is up and wants her oatmeal. How magical is that?

Perfectly put @ Pat..... but then when you truly belief in something and practice it the words come out right!!!!!
Energy is the key word and you have always said it.... thru all our "sharing" emails/posts/calls etc....
You are a special person Pat and that is why it is so important for Lissa to have you in her life...

it's all about learning to harness energy...and/or being able to tune into your power(s)....i was taking some psychic development classes but the lady moved to arizona...she was very ethical too...she stressed that, always being ethical in dealing with people....she said one time she had a client come in for a reading and their aura was just black and pure evil and she had to ask them to leave because she couldn't handle their presence...

i like linda goodman's star signs...that is a good book and touches on all kinds of things--healing energy, the theory that the words we speak are carried out into the universe forever, fairies, elves, etc....very mystical....

i have read that people who have had suffered trauma as a child are more apt to have 'gifts'....do you think that is true DD?

Can I remove those last 2 attempts to post a link here? They do not work. I apologize. I wont try that again. I sent them to you in an email instead. Sorry :(

Yes, Tia, I do think that because that's when your mind makes another place for you to go.

No problem, Roxeanne.

or your mind has to tap into powers, that i think everyone has, in order to survive and that 'activates' them so to speak...

i never envision a different world...(besides wishing for a day or 2 of calmness! :D) but i am more intune with my surroundings...

People fear what they ignore. I was told as a catholic child, that all witchery was bad and a sin, of course told to repent if ever thought about it, but, no explanation was provided ever as of why it was bad, only that it was "ungodly". Not today. I think we all have that undeveloped ability to manage our own energy whether good or bad, now if you mess with evil energy you get what you ask for.

Satan is a Christian creation and they can have him.

Saw a bumper sticker yesterday that said "If only closed minds came with closed mouths"

It's something I've only recently started researching but tuning into nature as a way of living seems so much more, well, natural. Our bodies contain the properties of earth and allowing yourself to meld into nature is simply elemental. Call that magic if you want, call it witchy if you want, but I think it's doing what comes naturally to anyone open enough to feel its open arms beckoning. Once you do, you feel the peace and long to get back to it and when you do it's like...being able to breath with all the capacity of your lungs. Completely satisfying and so Right.

I have a question Ms. Dirty Disher. Can you do readings through the phone or do you need to physically come in contact with a person in order to read their aura?

I love reading all of this and comments as well. I have a completely open mind to what folks say and experience.
I learn so much just by observing and listening to others.
Thanks for putting this out there Pat and thanks to everyone who adds onto it.
I don't know if I'll ever fully grasp it all but it is very enlightening and refreshing to read about.

Elizabeth, I only read in person. That's how it works best for me.

Tia, Pat, i think that it is not a coinsidence that a lot of us that gravitate towards this blog are people who believe in "magic" a "sixth sense" or whatever you may call it. I did experience a major trauma during my childhood, and i have always tried to tap into my sixth sense but have not had the time to hone in on it, yet! tia, i would love to get a good read on psychic development, do you know any? thank you!

No, sorry. I really don't have any books to recomend. I think everyone who's interested should learn to meditate. I think that's key.

yes- sitting (or standing) quietly seems to be one of the key common threads in energy manipulation- whether you're doing quiqong, taoist meditation, buddhist meditation, or some of the neopagan excercises that teach you to feel the energy in the soil, sun, moon etc- the message always seems to be to shut up and breathe. It gets so hard sometimes though, when there's no one around to trade experiences and thoughts with.
