Z's on the side

That Zinnia patch on the side of the house is really pretty. I'm saving seeds so next year I can have a huge Zinnia garden. HUGE. They seem to like it here. If I plant enough Zinna's maybe I won't have to mow so much. Sounds like a plan. I see a nettle back there, remind me to put on gloves and get that. I hate those things.

I love zinnias. I have a few growing but not as many as you do. I will save as many seeds as I can and purchase more next year to supplement.

Seeds are expensive, aren't they? And they hardly give you any in the package!

You have the prettiest flowers I have seen in a while DD. I wish I could do that!

Most of the seeds now are going on clearance. So I can use them for next year.
Perennials will start going on clearance now also.

I have a separate bed in the yard for the clearance plants. If they grow the following year, I dig them up and transplant.

Zinnias usually grow like weeds. But I cannot get them to grow in my gardens. :(
What am I doing wrong? A child can grow them. I like the huge thick zinnia garden idea too. Thats sounds wonderful! There is a field the size of a cornfield full of black eyed susans near my daughters house. Amazing. Makes me mad that I got mad & pulled all mine out! They were taking over! As were my cone flowers. Now I am mad at myself! Free flowers! I am so stupid!

LOL..no you aren't. They'll come back and you can pick out the spots you like best and mow around them.

I don't know why you can't grow Zinnias, that's strange. But, I'd make an experimental bed and put everything I liked in it and see what grew best. Then the next year focus on those things.

There are a lot of flowers that hate to be fertilized and grow best in poor dirt with little care. Zinna's are one of those. You just have to figure what they like.

Don't know how I did that--I posted in the wrong thread! What's a nettle, Pat? Zinnias are beautiful.

Nettles are a sting weed. They burn the F right out of me when I touch them. Thick here, I try to get 'em sprayed early.

When you go to take a dump in the woods, and no tp for the bunghole, watch out for the nettles!!! don't wipe your hind with nettles!

Meissa..I dont think that will be a problem. Umm...thx?

Zinnias are my absolute favorite but the weeds took everything over this year. I had 3 (yes only 3)tomato plants and 2 haven't done a thing but the one hybrid I bought has given me 26 tomatoes so I can't complain. They were a pretty good size at first, but as time went by they got smaller. I do have 3 or 4 bell pepper plants (red, green, & yellow) that are doing pretty good.
Back to zinnias. They are one sure way to bring HAPPY into your home. You gotta smile when you see them.

A nettle must have been the weed I pulled out of my potted rose.
Shit, that stung so bad! I thought I had pins sticking in my fingers, the pain lasted quite awhile. Now I know!

I'll do a post on them. I hate them, but, they have a use.

I was just going to do some research on nettles (thanks for the warning, all), but I think I'd rather wait for Pat's colorful thoughts on them!!!

Woo, those nettles sting. I've only gotten into them once, but that was once too many. Big old welts
