I am an insomniac and not one of those bullshit one's who say they have trouble falling asleep or they wake up in the middle of the night and have to have warm milk. I am a true insomniac. I can go without sleep indefinitely..I don't know how long because I get a sleeping pill and I use it. When I run out at the end of the month because there are some nights I need more than one, I just don't sleep until I get them again. No matter how tired I am, sleep won't happen. My head nods and I go lay down and I see images. Images of people, usually doing mundane things, sometimes in danger and faces that change. 100's of them. I never know any of these people, it's very vivid and I am aware I am not dreaming. I finally get up and go find something to do. It's kind of like going through the DT's. It's not very pleasant and it makes you feel like crap after a couple of nights of it.*
One of the things I've been doing during bouts of insomnia is gluing things. It's a weird hobby and I've been doing it for years..decades. I like to glue things to my reading glasses. I do it by the month and stone. I find some of them in antique stores and some in discount bins. They make them in all colors now, even purple. They have to work though, because I wear them. This glasses thing started because I was mad at my optometrist, he gives me bifocals and all I need is weak reading glasses. It messes with my far vision, which is better than perfect. Anyhow, I have tons of these, this isn't a very pretty example, but, it was one that was laying here on the desk. This is part of November, they always have Topaz or Citrines. I only use real stones or crystals and you'd be surprised how many real stones you can find at yard sales. I have a McCoy pot here with tools in it. Files and wire cutters and metal snips. You can't just glue things on, or it looks like those cheap Swarovski crystal sunglasses, although you can buy those and pry off the crystals. Anyhow, I don't just glue the stones on, I drill holes and set them. A hot sharpened coat hanger works well for that.

I like to glue things on household items too. I filled peanut shells with caulk and glued them on a phone. The shells fit together like a puzzle. It looks really weird and feels kind of nice when you hold the phone. I make odd dolls too. I make them out of wax, and the wax has to be from a candle I'm burning. I put things inside the brain or heart area. You never know what I will think of to put inside...and no one ever sees it. They have detailed faces, I'm good at faces, but, they're pretty creepy. Sometimes I make dogs, but, they always have human characteristics and they're creepy too. Anyway, this is my insomnia hobby. I put a movie on the computer and sit here in front of it..gluing and drilling and waxing. It's my hoodoo.

Have you ever considered a metal hospital?
No. I'm afraid you'd be my roomate.
Would you like a pair of flip flops embellished with swarovski crystals? I make them when I'm bored. They dazzle in the sunlight.
That's better than my can't sleep activity: Shooting at dogs with a BB gun.
No. I'm afraid you'd be my roomate.
HAHAHAHAH
The McCoy pot--what color is it?
What kind of hospital is a "metal" hospital, any way?
Metal hospitals are for anonymous flamers cuz they'd burn down the normal kind with their stunning insights and sharply honed spelling skills.
The McCoy pot is mustard yellow. Metal hospitals play Metallica all day and show Flash Dance at night.
Escro, I do flip flips too. I like beads and pearls on 'em.
Crabbie's story tellin' again. BB guns scare him.
Let's all meet at the metal hospital, tonight and dance!!!
Sounds like altered art to me...very cool.
I also make things out of plastic. But, that involves burning and melting, so I don't do it sleepless. I do it when I'm bored and watching TV. I like cellophane candy wrappers from this company called Erlan. I melt them and make beads.
Pat... I, too have had episodes of faces flashing in my mind of people I don't recognize. But they aren't doing anything and nobody seems to be in any kind of danger. The images come very fast and stay just long enough for me to focus on individual features. I won't try to guess how many faces I'll see but it's quite a few. It's sort of interesting but also scary when this happens and once I start to analyze the experience it stops. I don't suffer from insomnia and don't think I'm going crazy. In fact, when it has happened I've been in a very relaxed state of mind and not feeling any stress. It was nice to hear that someone else has had this happen to them.
I think there are a few of us from here who would make great room mates at a looney bin lol.... a pj party in a padded room...wooohooooooo
Your stories and descriptions do make me smile Pat.... don't ever stop writing....
Pat;
Would you please show us some pictures of your doll faces, and of the peanut phone??
I have trouble sleeping too. I've been through Ambien, Lunesta, you name it. They basically don't work anymore so I just take Benedryl because it's cheaper and I can get it OTC. If I'm lucky I'll get a few hours a night which works I guess.
That's interesting about seeing people. I've never done that but have lots of lucid dreams which are kind of strange because you can control them.
I've had dreams that come true in great detail. Some of them were sort of "waking dreams" Weird stuff, kind of scary.
It sucks to not be able to sleep. I've been able to go to sleep, but I wake up soooo early, like 3 or 4. Ugh.
I think is the best string of comments I've seen for a while, LOL!
I see faces too. when i am falling asleep, but not asleep.....a detailed sequence of faces of people i don't know, but they all look very real....weird. At least now i know i am not the only one.
An insomniac friend also takes Benadryl. Swears by it for when she just has to sleep.
when i can't sleep i clean stuff..so at least there is somewhat of a positive outcome....
Major insomniac here as well. Face/people seer as well, big time.
I also make stuff all the time.
I wanna see more pictures Pat! Indulge us please :)
When I first started reading here, maybe 2 years ago, I thought you were probably an average person, judging by your celeb reports.
So now I know you're not crazy. Crazy people are so repressed they haven't any out of the ordinary thoughts. They have Kraft mayonnaise thoughts. You have almost made canned tomato thoughts. Whew!
I liked hearing about your work dd. You are very creative person. I'm sorry to hear that you dont sleep. Sounds like to me that your brain does'nt know when to shut off and relax. My mother suffers from this to and my hubbie at times. He is a artist and will stay up days and nights getting one picture done. I really dont know how he does it.
I only sufferd from insomnia when I had my daughter. For almost 3 months. I didn't sleep. In the back of my mind I thought she would die. So I only slept a few wink once awhile. It was horrible.
Just curious Pat. Are those galss paper weights from Elwood, Indiana? St. Clair Glass? Perhaps? They have an annual Glass Festival there & are famous for their blown glass paper weights, lamps & other things. The lamps are highly collectible & mostly rich old ladies have those. Check the imprint on the bottom, see what they say.

WEll, as long as you're up anyway - you should try writing a book. That'll put you to sleep faster than anything.
P.S. And I'm not saying that because I think your writing is boring.
