There's the poor Mary statue Matilda found buried on her property and resurrected. That's a nice one, she has a pretty face. I'd probably keep her too. I don't know who these statues really represent, Mary, mother of Jesus, Mary Magdalene or maybe they were secret honors to the Moon Goddess. I have a certain respect for all of them and I think they're cool.

I remember Matilda writing about this. And I thought she said she painted it in neon colors. Doesn't look neon at all. Very pretty :)
Worship of Madonna is based in goddess worship. It was adopted into the religion to appeal to pagans, like pretty much every other 'christian' teaching. Hellfire, trinity, Christmas, Easter etc. It's all good. When you research stuff like that you realize we're all basically worshiping the same things, just by different names. I never understood why there's so much dissension between religions. There's really no need for it.
I like the glasses thing. It's cute and kitschy. Glasses are so ordinary and about the only way you can really dress them up is buy outrageously priced designer names that get glued on to the frame upping the price by hundreds of dollars and doing nothing to make them any more outstanding. Do we get to see pics of the dolls you make?
Well, personally I don't believe in a higher power. I like the Pagan ways of nature and energy redirection. Sure, I'll post the dolls sometime.
I do too it's up-building and non-judgmental. Same as First Nations/Native Americans and their inherent respect and devotion to nature and its energy. I just wish people would stop hating each other based on beliefs. I have little tolerance for holier-than-thou, judgmental attitudes especially when the dogma they're standing on is as pagan as the beliefs they condemn.
A nun told me once that you were not supposed to "throw away" a statue of anything religious, if it needs to be gotten rid of the best thing is to bury it..... I guess the one Matilda found was buried for that reason.
(has anyone else ever heard that?)
I've never heard of that. Did the nun say why it should be buried? Was it out of respect for the icon?
Nadine... I've never heard of that but it could be true. I just remember how bad I felt to find the poor old gal buried. I'm not Catholic but it just seemed a shame to leave her like that. I didn't do a very good paint job on her but did want to give her some color. She looks out on my back yard and sometimes I'll make a comment to her as I walk past. Is that crazy or what? LOL
there's an old superstition that if you want to sell your home, you are supposed to bury a statue of St. Joseph on the property. Maybe somebody got this idea mixed up and buried a Mary statue instead?
Actually no, the nun didn't say why but I guess its that those statues shouldn't be dumped in the garbage out of respect... so burying them is more "civilized".
I understand your feelings Matilda, had I found her I'd have dug her up too.... I like the idea of you making comments to her...if you ever need anything, ask her... you never know what might happen... (yes I'm a practicing catholic... and yes I know that my dear friend Pat is shaking her head @ me lol)
That is ok Nadine. I have numerous Mary icons in my home. I love all the Marys and talk to them often :)
Its a hunk of cement...and thats all
Well anon 5:22 what is a hunk of cement to you might be a gorgeous sculpture to others.... just like some of your treasures might be garbage to me....
I say to each their own...
