Monsanto ruining the world..

I agree we could all eat better and at the least we should have choices about what we put in our bodies, but, Monsanto doesn't think so. No root, no weed, no problem? There's a big problem and they're it. They've put patents on plants and if you have their plants in your field, they own your crop..and you, after they take you to court. And it doesn't make any difference that you didn't plant their seed, even if it blew off a truck going by and contaminated your field, it's theirs. They are putting many honest farms out of business. And worse yet, their genetically altered seed has invaded the United States and can't be stopped. And we all eat this dangerous genetically altered food and we don't know it, because they aren't required by our government to label it.
*
And before you say, pfff, genetically altered hybrid, so what? No. A hybird is a cross pollinated plant, the Monsanto seed plants are genetically altered. A plant's cellular structure is secure. The only way to introduce something foreign is to make the plant's cells sick. They do this by infecting it with E. Coli bacteria. Then they put in their weird genetic mutations. And an antibiotic gene is also put in, which has nothing to do with killing E. Coli, it is a marker that determines Monsanto seeds in court cases. Monsanto seed started this so they could make plants immune to Round Up herbicide and that way, they could sell Round Up by the tanker loads to farmers, telling them they could spray it right on their Monsanto seed crops and their plants would be fine. It was some kind of miracle...to a lot of them.
*
Not all farmers bought into this train of thought. Farmers are not all dumb hicks, it turns out. They knew the Monsanto seed was potentially dangerous so they kept to their old ways and saved their own non modified seed (which they are now being court ordered to burn because it's all contaminated by Monsanto seed). At the very least, they knew Monsanto was up to something and it wasn't good. Now these genetic mutations of seeds have made their way into every crop and field and there is no way to pull it back now. Some of it is dangerous and has made people sick and is potentially a killer. It alters people too, at least some people, including me, think so, but, no big studies are being done. The government knows the problem, but, this is BIG business were talking about. And still..no law stating that genetically altered food must be labeled.
*
We all eat it unknowingly and quite frankly, it's disgusting. And it's frightening to think what our kids are eating. I'm old so I don't have that long to worry about it, but, the thought of unknowingly feeding it to Lissa makes me sick. And very very angry. There's a documentary HERE, if you want more information. It's called The Future Of Food. It's depressing though. I don't think there's much future for food, because this thing is done now and it's like a virus. And there's no anti-virus soft wear for the world of our food. It's doomed. All for money.

And I'm never buying Round Up again. They'll miss my 10 gallon purchase a year, I'm sure. Oh, well, it's something.

I've read about this and it's disturbing. The way our food supply is being manipulated is frightening. I really want to see Food Inc but I'm afraid I'll never eat anything again.

the US isn't doing much about GM food, but the EU is....i do think someone is trying to get GM food labeled here....it needs to be....i won't knowingly eat GM food...no fucking way....

I'd never eat it on purpose, when you learn what it is, it's as repulsive as the thought of eating shit. It is shit.

Hi DD I can't even buy any round up at all
up here. All pesticides have been banned as
of last year. Frankenfoods are not allowed in
the grocery stores. Monsanto is a name that
strikes fear in canadian consumers. Kiki

Lucky you. Canada is less greedy. I'd rather just drink the pesticide, it would be safer than the altered foods.

I read a Vanity Fair article about this company a few years ago and it scared me a lot. Aside from their genetically altered food and practices which is evil enough, they strong arm farmers who aren't on board with them and ruin the ones who are if they don't tow the line. It is a malicious, merciless company with no moral compass and they're controling the farming industry and our food.

I had no idea this situation was so bad. This really is scary.

No wonder I throw up so much. Food seems to swell up inside me as I get older. I have learned that I have to eat half portions now. I honestly get full up to my ears from regular portions of anything now. I am not over weight, size 9. So, it s not me being a pig. I just get sick. First the water Pat, & now the food. We all are gonna die from this sh**! Makes me SICK! Well, all that crap they spray on the food crops & cattle grain crops to kill stuff has to be going somewhere. It's going in US! We knew, it just isnt something we wanna talk about. 'Cuz then, we have to make a choice. Eat or not eat. What are we going to do? Not eat? No. We will eat. See? We cannot win this. If you remember in India Monsanto had a huge plant explosion that killed alot of people & caused a huge evacuation & deadly gas in the air that has since been showing up in illness and cancers there. They are killing 3rd world people, so Monsanto doesnt care. I didnt watch the video, I would puke. But I bet they talk about the India explosion!

And we wonder why ten year old girls have boobs and their periods...it's the crap they're putting in food. Calves are supposed to mature in their own time, companies are making them full grown, ready to slaughter in six months. It's not natural. Then we eat steak, hamburger etc... well, the chemicals they give the animals are going right into us and our families. Think about it. That's scary shit.

Daphne...I am 52. I started when I was just turning 11. My daughter started when she was not quite 11. If that has caused mutations in our growth & genes. Then it was started a looong time ago. We have been ingesting this sh** for decades & decades. Long before anyone was aware of the future implications. So right!!! Dayum! Thats some scary shit right there Daphne.

Yep. But, now with this altered gene food invading, it will be impossible to go back. This is our future.

Thanks for writing about this. It's out there but not enough people are aware of it. I think there will be a change, though it probably won't be soon, but it starts with us being more aware and spreading the knowledge. Thanks again.

Dirty Disher said...

There is still time to change it. We could burn all the seed here and start from scratch with overseas seed that hasn't been contaminated. But, we are talking billions of dollars and that won't happen.

Wow. that is some scary shit.

I think going back will be a years process, if only each farmer could have a couple of new seeds of each plant (let's say an acquaintance brings it for them) and gradually replace the evil seeds. Because you're right DD, investing on a big import from overseas ain't gonna happen. I hope those monsanto fat cats and the ones who allow them on business die a slow painful death.

Some of the smartest people I've ever met are farmers.

Now, some of the brokest people I've met are farmers.

Meissa, even if you replaced the seed, you'd have to let fields lie fallow for at least a year to kill Monsanto volunteer plants. It's not going to happen.

Read "The Botany of Desire." There's a chapter on potatoes, starring Monsanto, that will make you want to grab a torch and a pitchfork and storm their castle.
