That's just wrong

I found a whole page of the poodle transformation photos HERE. It made me sad. The Poodle had been the target for this kind of stuff since it was first bred. They are a friendly intelligent breed, standard Poodles are a large dignified dog. Dogs know when they look stupid. They do! You can see it in their faces, they know when something isn't right and they have no control over the stupid things people do to them. Most dogs are happy after they get groomed, if they have a good groomer..most of them enjoy being clean and matt free. But, this is just humiliating and sad.

I hate it when humans distort animals to satisfy their own selfish whims. Animals have feelings. They aren't toys, accessories or added features in room designs. They're living creatures who deserve respect.

Dogs want to be dogs not some experimental art piece dragged around by an idiot human...It bugs me. Big time.

It is just hair. It will grow back and the color will fade. People can be art. Why not dogs. As long as it is not hurting them, what is so wrong with it. They are loved. They are loved by their humans. The humans are not hurting the animals. I am a dog groomer and I love to do things with the dogs hair. Like give schnauzers mohawks and give poodles funky hair cuts. I just don't see the harm in it I guess. Now people don't get angry with me. That is just MY opinion.

It somehow doesn't look right to me. I can't put a finger on why though.

I think the difference between people being art and dogs being art is that people have the option to choose and dogs don't. I don't say it's right or wrong but that's the difference I see.

I could never get angry with you. You are so kind to the animals and they even love coming to see you. Dogs have dignity though and I've never seen you do anything stupid to them that takes away their dignity.

We tried to clip our dog (he looks like a small sheep dog, very hairy) once but stopped once we got to his head because we weren't really sure enough of ourselves to be near his eyes (or ears, or nose). We also didn't know how to do his feet so we left them too. The poor guy looked like some kind of demented lion with his "mane". The cat beat the crap out of him. Oh you had better believe he knew how stupid he looked. I have never seen an animal look so ashamed in my life. (He went to see a professional the next week)

Sedgewick (Golden Retriever) spent the afternoon yesterday at the doggie spa. He did alot of swimming in the river this summer and rolling in mud and his poor butt hair got so matted that I just couldn't get it combed out and I could tell the poor guy was uncomfortable. So I splurged. When I picked him up he was jumping for joy and the groomer even gave him a little doggie tie that attaches to his collar.

Casey J-This was my first time to use a groomer and I was unsure about tipping. The bath and dematting was $45. I gave her a $10 tip. Was that enough?

I think you are right, dogs do know what they look stupid or silly.

My old dog hated the bows the groomer put in her years, and when the lab had surgery on her leg the vet suggested a long sleeve tee to put on her that would cover her leg.

We did laugh a bit at her, and she didn't like it....

yeah! thats a great tip! I am lucky if I get a buck.

Awww man that looks wrong.

There are groomers who are assholes with their furry clients, I've seen some who are just rough and rude and take their anger towards the dogs they service. A friend of mine got returned her little dog almost in vegetable state because the stupid groomer walked away and doggie was found hanging from the neck on the table. Poor critter. Made me so mad.

Casey, a mohawk or anything the like is fine, it looks cute, and it can be just a reflection of the dog's personality that a groomer picks up and wants to make it more evident with their skills, that's fine, I have no problem with that. But, I have to disagree with you on "people can be art why not dogs". People make the conscious decision to be art. Dogs (and other animals for that matter-I would REALLY hate it if they did that to a cat) don't know any better than to please their people and follow commands, no matter how smart they are. I can only imagine the poor dog being all submissive with sad puppy eyes and taking what camel shape it's being given to him, knowing it's undignified, but wanting nothing else but make his people happy. It makes me sad :(

I didn't mean to offend anyone with my strong opinion on this.

Casey,I think many dog groomers, if not most are great folks. I take my four in to be groomed monthly.
It's just that I've owned an art gallery in NYC for 25 years and I have seen dogs with piercings on their bodies and ears, legs and even eyebrows and penis. I've seen them shaved, tattooed and painted. I've known of dogs that died because their owners wanted their dogs hair to match their own and some bright star used aniline derivative tint and the dog licked at it and died. Another glowing pet owner put human hair bleach on the dog to give it highlights and it ended up with oozing chemical burns and convulsing from the pain. It needed to be put down because it went mad from the agony.
I've seen dogs dressed in costumes that left their underarms bloody and it later became infected. I've seen nails allowed to grow dangerously long so they could be painted to match their owners nail art. I've seen ears and tails carved and cut creatively to make a statement.

I have no qualms with clipping, cleaning and harmless cute sweaters or a bandana around their necks. My yorkie wouldn't dream of going outside without her sweater. My terrier loves the bandana he gets on spa day.

My issue is with owners who are willing to torture or even kill a pet in order to show their fucking friends how edgy or in vogue they are. It's NOT art. It's NOT creative. It ought to be a crime punished with torture as horrible as what the animal suffers. I'd volunteer to go in and do THAT.

I could come up with some VERY artful torture for these assholes.

I work at an animal shelter and a few years ago, they had two cats there who had brain damage because their (ex) owners dyed them. The owners didn't bother to make sure the dye was safe, they used really strong dye full of chemicals. The poor, confused cats had bright green and pink heads. It was so sad and made me so angry. Stupid people.

Ever since then I have been very much against "decorating" pets this way.

Casey J. - It's because it's entirely humans using animals for their whims. After decades of living, you start to see the sick selfishness of humans and these things don't seem fun anymore.

OMG! Was the Groomer trying to make the dog look like a camel?? That is so wrong on so many levels. That poor doggie. :(

The products that the groomers use for the creative grooming dogs, are made FOR dogs. They do not have any harmful chemicals in them and that is what I was talking about. I totaly agree with people being punished for abusing animals, but what the creative groomers do to their poodles is not harmful.

Why am I thinking of three cute 5 year old boys, dressed identical, walking holding hands . . . at the whim of their mother.

Sorry, just pissed off after reading about Kate's LKL interview. She still said, 'The kids are just playing in front of the cameras." '
