Totally nosey

I use Suave Stawberry shampoo. I get a big bottle at Dollar General for a dollar and I've always liked it. Once in a great while, when I feel rich, I switch to Aussie, which I don't think does as good a job as the dollar Suave, but, it smells real good. It smells like Grapes to me. Anything that smells fruity, I'll buy. What kind of shampoo do you use?

When I have the money I use Biolage because I love the smell LOL When money is tight I used Fructisse(sp) I love it too. I used the Suave strawberry all the time when I was younger. I love the smell of that stuff

I've used Finesse for 20 years now, I like the smell and it's pretty cheap! I am 40 now, do all women's hair get thinner, I used to have an afro, but now I wonder where all my hair went! love your blog! It's a nice change from all of the celebrity blogs I read!
thanks bima

When I have the money I use Joico and it smells like bananas to me. Otherwise I use whatever smells like peaches or berries. Right now I'm using Herbal Essence White nectarine & some foofoo flower scent. Close enough to peaches for me.

I HATE those herbal essence commercials. Don;t they drive you nuts? Like I'm gonna cum if I wash my hair with that.

Paul Mitchell, Biolage or Nexxus are my favs...I just switch em up.

i don't care what i use as long as it smells good. and i can't really buy the good stuff anymore since those damn kids are supposed to come first lol. it could be called shitpoo, i'd use it if it sm elled good

I use Suave, because it's cheaper and works just as well. I've already tried all the expensive stuff at one time or another.

And I LOVE the Suave "Sweet Pea and Violet" deoderant. I used to use Secret all the time, but at some point I decided to try something different because I wasn't all that satisfied, so I tried the Suave and for some reason it works better for me.

And while we're discussing products - I've recently decided I'm going to have to stay with the overly expensive Tide clothes detergent. I usually buy cheap, but I saw the Tide on sale at Dollar General and got some, because I wasn't all that happy with how my clothes were coming out and decided to try something different - and it DOES seem to work better.

Anyone have a favorite laundry detergent that doesn't cost $10 - $15 a bottle?

I'm a pantene pro v girl... right now it's the nature fusion moisture balance variety. :)

Right now, using Dove. Hoping that after I get HIRED (please, soon!), I can upgrade back to Nexus...my hair is sooo fussy!

Anon,
I have yet to find a dtergent that works as well as Tide. That is one thing I do not scrimp on because the clothes just do not seem as clean with other brands.

Right now, I've retroed into Prell and Pert Plus. The scents bring back good memories of my misspent, but utterly fun, youth

Merette said...

I find Suave dries my hair out. I use Pert Plus (with the shampoo and conditioner in one). I've been using it for years now. They have a new Pert Plus in menthol. I bought it by accident and hated it. Made my scalp burn.

Yep - Pantene is good.

I tend to switch shampoos because my hair does not have the same feeling after so many uses. I have used Dove, which I like. Do not try Organix shampoo, it makes your hiar feel like straw. I tried Aveeno, with a coupon, and I actually like it.

frimmy said...

Yeah ads for some of the products designed for us are pretty pathetic. I don't watch much TV so I'm spared.

I have to say I get overwhelmed at the choices in the shampoo isle. So my only requirements are cheap and smells good. I check the scents too.

Cut On The Diagonal said...

switch up between Pantene and Aveda.

i use whatever is on special and smells good. But Citre shine...not on my hair...accidentally spilled a bit on the BR floor, and when i mopped it put a gloss down to match mop n' glo. laminted plastic hair...no thanks!!

I use Bed Head. Kinda expensive but it's so worth it cause it really makes a difference. My hair has never been stronger and more shiny.

about the Tide, I noticed that Gain is manufactured by the same company as Tide. I wonder if they change the scents and throw the same detergent in different bottles. Gain is a little cheaper than tide. Also, search online for coupons. If I'm buying something that's more expensive like detergent or cat litter I try to look for a coupon online. Also search online when you order pizza, you can get great deals

I switch a bunch but like Suave's Apple shampoo and Tres Semme (ooh lala)

I use the absolute cheapest crap I cna find, that doesn't cause dandruff.

Back in my single childless selfish days I used Bumble and Bumble, which was (is?) really expensive, but made my hair so nice and low maintenance. I also USED to go to the salon every other month for a $400 cut/color/highlight lol... Nowadays I used herbal essences. It's o.k. Get's the job done. I'm lucky if I get a chance to blow my hair out ( it's very long) so atleast it always smells nice...especially when I forget to put perfume on!

Forgot to say..growing up I used every single product aussie made. I LOVED it. Thought I was just the coolest. I also spent an hour every night brushing my hair. lol

valle said...

i agree Biz.In High school we thought aussie was the primo stuff.

I use whatever is on sale for shampoo.
I also make my own laundry detergent, works FINE! Three ingredients, and I can make 3 gallons for about $2. Google it!

i use products from yves rochers or the health food store for shampoo....natural stuff....i like fruity smells and also cinnamon....

laundry soap wise i use all...i get a huge honkin' thing at the warehouse club for $10 and it'll last me 3-4 months....i avoid tide and proctor and gamble products as they test on animals---including cats and dogs...fuck them....

Costco brand is as good as Tide, and if you have an HE machine, you only need about 2 tablespoons of detergent...sounds crazy, but it works

I use Bumble and Bumble Cool Blonde to keep my color fresh. But my faves are fruit smells as well. I love apple ones.

Nissa said...

miss tia,
Thanks for the info about P&G, I had no idea they tested on animals. I love Tide but I love animals more.

shmedelle said...

Garnier. The stuff in the big green bottle.

I use Sheer Blonde by John Freida or Blond Expressions by Pantene. I will also use Pantene Full and Thick formula. My husband and sons use Suave. If I have a lot of hairspray or mousse in my hair, I'll use the Suave deep cleaning first and follow up with my shampoo. I have really fine blonde hair and Suave alone makes it have snarls and dries it out.

Gawd...speaking of high school, I remember going through cans and cans of Aqua Net hairsprary. Now the only Aqua Net we have in the house is for igniting the potato gun... using Fekkai right now because I got a really good deal on it, but not sure what I'll use next. Really like the Aussie 3 minute miracle but I ordered it from drugstore.com and the label is totally different and it doesn't seem to work as well.

Herbal Essence. It smells soooo good!

I love finesse and pantene.
DD we don't have a general dollar store up here.
I wish when I get my hands on that strawberry
suave I don't use it on my hair no way I put
it in my bathroom dispenser and wash my hands
with it. I live the smell of the fruits on my hands
afterwards. It's a nice lil treat / surprise even
my son loves the scent beats antibacterial handsoap
anyday I say. You guys are lucky with the gds.

bella said...

Kiki - can you order it from drugstore.com? they have a bogo right now on strawberry suave. don't know what shipping to canada looks like though.

I go from L'Oreal to Herbal Essences to the Pantene repair line. I don't like the new Herbal Essences formulas, so I always try to look for the old bottles.

Also I stay away from Garnier. I bought some Fructis shampoo and conditioner and I had to throw it away after the second use. It made my hair feel like shit.

I hear the owners of P&G are well known to be into Satanism. I could be wrong, though.

Casey J. said...

I use VO5, cause it's a buck at Walmart and I IS POOR. :)

miss tia said...

no, the p&g into satanism is a big old rumor/myth because of their old logo....some christians labeled it satanic and it just took off from there...sort of like the liz claybourne is a satanist rumor, etc...

but p&g DOES test on animals, including kitties and doggies they get from shelters in the cincinnati area...so FUCK THEM....

I use to have this mint shampoo and cond it made your head tingle. I dont know what the name of it was but it was heaven. Better than herbal crap. Usally I just use suave products from the dollar store. Its cheep it works and I use alot of cond in my hair plus my daughters.

Usally I notice the smell dies in my hair in a day.

Has anyone used dry shampoo before? If I could find it I would'nt mind trying it

My daughter, the hair stylist bought me a huge pump bottle of some salon shampoo & conditioner. I use them, dont know the name tho. Huge pump thingys! Will last me a long time because I have short hair. She would tell me to tell you not to use Suave tho, it's like using dish soap on your hair & will totally wreck it & dry it out. Pantene seems to work well, but she said it has wax in it & over time it messes up your hair too. I am not allowed to use it either & I like it. If she didnt buy me shampoo I would use something for brunettes, probably anything that would help me retain my color. xo

If you wat to splurge ( and it is worth it) you should try morroccan oil shampoo and conditioner. It is wonderful! especially used in cnjunction with actual morroccan oil. It all smells so good and your hair will be softer silkier and shinier than ever!!

Anonymous said...

I hate to disagree with you Rox, but I receive compliments on my hair all the time and I have to say that I always use the cheapest product(s) that I can find, which is usally Suave.
In fact my stylist once asked me what I used and when I told her she told me to continue using it.

I tried the Paul Mitchell stuff from the salon once. It sucked, it left build up on my hair like crazy. Thankfully it was my aunt's spending and not mine.

I use only Melaleuka products... not only for my hair but also make-up and creams also... (the creams are produced under Nicole Miller trademark)
Have any of you heard of those products? I have a friend who we represents them, they are really great.

Anonymous said...

anon 11;29...I wrote that my daughter said that, not me! LOL...I just use what she gives me. I use Dove for brunettes alot if I run out of her stuff. I'm sorry to imply that the other products are bad. I am just relaying what she tells me. I am no expert. I say w/e works! Right???
Peace :)

When I had long hair I used Aussie for hair long enough to swish, not it's shorter & I've gone back to blonde I use the everyday use Aussie shampoo & conditioner.

Recently tried herbal essence, shit & left my scalp all scabby.

I have Pert, Head & Shoulders, Biolage, Pantene, Herbal Essence, Fructese and Unkown named stuff smelling like fruit cocktail and something else smells like green apple. I grab this stuff, hubs buys his and my daughter brings all hers in. She has her own bath but likes our shower better. I usually shut my eye's and grab something. As long as my hair is clean I'm happy.

Pat said...

I didn't know P@G tested on animals. I don't like that.

Nadine said...

Pat, most of them test on animals... that is one of the reasons I'm into the melaleuka products... (I've always wondered how many of those poor lab animals have to get skin cancer in order for the companies to know just how far then can go with their chemicals un humans)

miss tia said...

p&g is really bad....REALLY bad...they get the kitty and doggies from shelters---they even have gotten some from akron which is like 4-5 hours from here....they really torture them too...

fuck them....

i think peta is useful with their info on p&g...sometimes they have some decent info....

Anonymous said...

I use Aveda products and get my hair colour done there. It's expensive but I don't have 'bad' habits so I spend some money there.
I can't use most commercial products because I'm very sensitive to chemical perfume - I'd puke and lie on the couch for a week if I tried to use any chemical scent on my body/in my laundry.
My daughter has a specific, elaborate set of drugstore hair products she swears by.

I am the dollar store suave buyer most of the time I enjoy the scents of Strawberry, Apple, Coconut...when I have extra change in the pocket and I know for a fact the kids are taken care of as far as needs and a few wants I will splurge on the sale bottle of Aussie or even fruitasia or whatever its called it's cheaper then Aussie and smells purty.

I use Archipelago Botanicals Soy Milk shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. It's unscented and all natural, which is good for me because chemicals and scents tend to make me break out in a rash or itch. It's also not tested on animals which is a huge plus.

I love Victorias Secret Love Spell when I get a coupon for $20 off a $25 purchase. Other than that I like Finesse. Remember that old shampoo Body On Tap that had beer in it? Or Gee Your Hair Smells Teriffic? I think I have a bottle of that put back somehwere. I will have to dig it out.

coffeebean said...

I use Aveda and it seems to last a long time. I only buy products 4 times a year. I like that I can recycle the whole bottles, even the caps. I use bodywash from Walmart that smells like lime and coconut. Yummmm!

Ssmith28 said...

I wish I could use Suave, it always smells so yummy, but it gives me a nasty rash, the same as many other shampoos. I pretty much can only use Aussie.

valle said...

ha ha i forgot to mention that I also buy walmart brand "equate" and squirt it in the big Aussie bottle with the pump on it. My family thinks they're using the good stuff.

I'm a hairdresser and have tried a lot of things and only one has worked for me. I have curly hair so I don't use any shampoo at all. Don't get all vomity, now, it's not what you think. Curly hair is usually dry by nature and shampoo strips away any oil that is trying in vain to make it down the hair shaft. Instead I use a scalp therapy or just plain conditioner and give myself a thorough scalp massage to get rid of oil and debris.

Once a week I mix a 1T brown sugar with 1T conditioner and exfoliate my scalp. My hair is soooo much happier than it's ever been and my curls are bouncy and not nearly as frizzy as they used to be. My scalp feels great and it used to feel uncomfortably oily and itchy if I skipped a shampoo day. It's been three years since my last shampoo and everything smells fine!

Most shampoo contains harsh detergents. Think of it this way: Would you wash a wool sweater in hot water and detergent every day?
