Peg and I just had a road trip, we were going to photograph this tiny neighbor town and we got caught in a storm, so we took storm pictures. I love a good storm. I was trying my best to get lightening, but, I'm not quick enough I guess. It was an odd storm though, we both kept saying that. The wall cloud looked like it had teeth and the lightening surrounded us quickly from all sides.

When I saw this weird light photo, I thought it was just a metal mile marker reflecting, even though the shape is wrong. I got to looking at the other photos of this road taken seconds apart and you can see in that top pic, which I put on for comparison, there's no mile marker. There IS something weird looking in the middle of the road in that top picture, it's a wild turkey we were trying to get photos of. He was pretty.

I cropped that odd light thing out of the second picture, I had the camera set to take really big pics, so I didn't blow it up. I just cropped it out. WTF is that? It had just started to rain, you can see drops on the truck up there. But, if it's rain how come there's only one? The rest of the rain drop pictures looked like..well..rain drops. How come it's going up instead of down? I think maybe I got a photo of some kind of lightening bouncing very close to us.

I went and looked up types of lightening and asked if lightening can be invisible and the websites said yes. And some lightening can only be seen for a split second. And there are all kinds of weird lightening like ball lightening, elves, sprites and blue rod. I don't know which kind it is, or even for sure if that's what it is..but, it's cool, huu? I put them on big so you can click them and look at 'em better. Gawd, I love a good storm.

WOW!!! First thing I thought of was a rod, remembering the video you posted a few weeks back. But whatever it is, is amazing!!
Boy, that road is straight!!
I really think it's some kind of lightening, though I can't say for sure. I could feel the lightening real close, it was making my hair stand up. The air had an odd crackling to it. I think it's cool and now I'll be obsessed with storm photos..lol.
Typical Iowa road, Coyote. This is how we get from one shitty nowhere to the next shitty nowhere. It all looks the same. Sigh.
We're getting the storm now, Pat. It's coming down pretty good. Haven't seen any lightening, though. That photo was pretty neat!
That cloud looks like the kind we get here a lot, they produce straight line winds and dangerous lightening most of the time. We had one of those bad storms a few days ago. I love storms too, just as long as I don't get damage.
We had a storm similar to that tonight in NJ. Really dark clouds rolling in and long streaks of lightening all around, torrential rain. I love storms too.
I think the landscape looks pretty cool, way different than what I'm used to.
Oh,and that photo is awesome. I don't know what it is, but it is pretty.
Awesome Shots Pat!!
Did you see the light when you were taking the picture? Those are awesome pictures! I grew up in Illinois and my house was struck by lightning and caught on fire, while we were in it. I am still scared of storms to this day.
I loveeee storms! I'm in NJ too, Maureen. Today's storms seemed to skip over us though - we got rain this morning but that was it. As for the photo, ive never heard about or seen lightening like that - it is interesting!!
Last Sunday, we were driving home from a park in these POURING rains. While we were at the light by our house we were blinded by this purpley white flash. The next day, a tree in one of my neighbor's backyards was completely shattered down the middle. It was very cool :)
There's only one other road that I've seen that is that straight. Out west. There's a pic of it, here. http://tinyurl.com/kr5ctx
If you didn't have to live in Iowa, Pat, where would you live?
I'd live in the Northwest, most likely on the Oregon Coast.
I'd live in a NYC brownstone. That's my dream.
Fascinating pic. I love to watch lightening dance across the ocean. It comes down in jagged forked shapes and is sometimes very pink in color.
Worthy dream, Pat. NYC is fascinating. I used to cut school and go to broadway matinees when I was a kid.
My first thought was "no, that's the car antennae"...and then I saw the light on the side of the road. Very cool photo. I miss green :-)
