How'd you like to find THIS growing in your yard?

Naseem woke up one morning to find these things sprouting all over her yard. Nice. She posted it on her blog and I went WTF? I tried to find out what they were by typing in all sorts of things, then I got frustrated and typed in "Long red disgusting looking fungi that looks like penis"..got a hit. It's called Dog Stinkhorn. Ewww. I heard they don't smell any better than they look. I'm a BIG fungi and shroom fan, but, that's pretty ugly and not something you'd want in the front yard. Naseem said her mother plucked and pitched the vile things. I'll bet you the spores were hidden in that mulch, Naseem.

EW YUCK. We just laid mulch all around our back patio early spring and about a month ago the nastiest looking fungi popped up. They looked like human ears, like cartilage, like some serial ear chopper-offer dumped his goods all over the mulch. It was sooooooo disgusting. I couldn't even touch them or look at them, I just trie dto ignore them. LOL.

Fungi love rotted trees..rotted trees make the mulch you buy.

lmao@ Biz

The people before me who lived in this house used crushed rock for mulch. It's not pretty but it won't be sprouting nasty fungi either...doesn't mean I won't be changing it over down the road sometime.

A few months ago I actually found a mushroom growing in the bathroom mold!! I told the apt manager and they re-grouted, painted, patched and fixed it. I should have taken a picture because when I looked online I saw that many others had mushrooms growing in their homes.

Ewwwww wwwwww . . . . Biz, ears? Yuk. Did you ever see the movie "Blue Velvet."

Several years ago some strange stuff started showing up in my mulch. Looked like an animal had puked, which is what I thought had happened. I was putting pepper all around the flower beds to keep the critters out, didn't help. Every day more & more of it. Yup, fungi sprouting in the mulch.

Naseem, I was just shocked at how many you had there. It was gross, but, interesting. I'd never seen dog stinkhorn.

It sort of looks like corpse plant, but, that's not red.

Gawd that was a good laugh

It was the first time I saw those things. I hope they don't crop up again because I'm going spray the entire yard with some fungi poison!

We had a few of those hideous looking things growing in the mulch around the trees in our front yard. It is so creepy looking. I never went near them so I have no idea what it smells like. The kids in the neighborhood think our house is haunted so it just adds to the character.

Maybe it was a joke from the people that work at the mulch place..."ha, ha, I'll put little peters in the mulch and give some old lady a heart attack!"

At first I was like "Who wasted all those hot dogs?"

You should plant them in your mom's yard one midnight and tell her how much you hate them. She'll keep them just to be contrary...
