I was looking at a site just now and they have all these rules for posting and a message that said, make your comment short and to the point, stick to the subject, personal stories may be rejected. I thought that was so rude. You go to a site to read, don't you? People shouldn't apologise for a long post, you should post as much as you want to. And while I understand you shouldn't change a thread completely if it's important, who the fuck cares if someone changes the subject in a post, say, on smudge sticks or tomatos? Most people have enough common sense to know when a post is important. I can't imagine telling people to shut the fuck up while encouraging posting. It's self defeating. It's also boring. I am here to read, aren't you? I hope I never get to a point where I can only read 20 words at a time. What happens after that? Does their brain explode?

I've never actually read War And Peace, should I?

I know where you read that message. I saw it too and thought pretty much the same as you. It wasn't one of my favorite sites to begin with and now I'll probably just not go there anymore.
Cool.
I am looking at it right now in front of me Pat. I like to read Tolstoy (Anna Karenina is my favorite book), and I am about to finish his short story series, currently reading "Death of Ivan Ilich".
The book is so massive that I fear that I would lose interest, so I find other books I have already read to re-read, or look for nuggets of other books that I want to brush-up-on.
It would be like reading Dynasty and General Hospital with French and Russian names, and it would go on forever.
I prefer his insight to pain and love and irony in a nicely packed drama with a little sex and a lot of lust, plenty of lying and some backstabbing. Yeah!.
I think I'll keep staring at my copy for the near future.

I would keep right on surfing if I stumbled on that site. Why create a place to exchange thoughts and then begin editing before the first word is typed? That's just too anal for me...
I read, War & Peace, in high school. I wasn't thrilled. I might try it agin sometime.
That sounds like the same old email & texting etiquette rules. Texting I think thats good for it to be short, but emails & other messages should be pretty loose about those rules. I dont like to call people so I keep up with emails & texts & Facebook msg's. I can say what I want to say & I'm done. I dont have to sit there & listen to them bitch about their day. LOL...I say my words & thats it. I love it.

When I come across sites like that, I don't even bother coming back.
There's an online magazine I often read, The Gilded Serpent, that has a 500 word limit for the letters to the editor, otherwise it falls into the "article" category. If anyone writes more than 500 words the frist time, they publish it, but, added before the first paragraph they will suggest him to write an article for the magazine.
I did read Anna Karenina, Jarhead, I found it in a garage sale box.
I want to. But with the amount of time I have it took me a year to read Anna Karenina. But I did like it.

I hate sites with millions of rules. I used to go to some very strict sites but I don't bother anymore.
When I was younger there was a really popular gossip site everybody went to and it was run by total assholes. They were always snapping at posters for breaking their rigid little rules, right there in the forums in front of all the other posters. I mean, at least send a private message! Long story short, after they shut the forums down I decided I would never post at a place like that again, and I never do.
What I like best about The Dirty Disher site is that trolls don't get far with their snide remarks. Everybody either ignores their comments or just makes a short and sweet comeback. And then it's over with. I've been to sites where there would end up being a pissing match to see who could get the last word in. The whole thing would escalate to the point where everybody was cussing each other out. I love a lively debate amongst intelligent, level-headed bloggers but the trolls only have one agenda and that's to piss people off.
I'm glad we don't get many trolls. And I like the fact that everyone here is smart. It's kind of amazing.
And, BTW, I wasn't putting down any specific website. I just don't want mine to be like that.
A couple of semester back I had to take a Russian Literature class...it just was not my cup of tea. Say what you mean for goodness sakes. If I wanted to have to decipher a conversation, I'd call my mom.
Hi Elaine,
I too disliked literature until I ordered a correspondence course with an excellent professor teaching, not lecturing.
Have you picked up Madame Bovary Pat?--bet you'd like it.

p.s.-- John Graziano is out of the hospital and getting care at home finally. I hope his family's love can sustain him and give them the strength to care for John in his bad state. Semper Fi John and all other hard-chargers paying a price for decades of political blunders and special interests of politicians.
Jon looks bette, huu? They fixed his head, well, not his brain, but, you know. I've read Madame Bovary, thanks. :)
