Mermaid girl is dead

Shiloh Pepin, the little girl born with a rare condition often called "mermaid syndrome," ( and star of TLC's Mermaid Girl) died yesterday. She was 10 years old. Rest in peace, Shiloh.

But, I'm sure The Loser Channel will find another child to exploit next week.

They probably have another show lined up as I write this.

That is so sad.
Knowing TLC they probably bought stock in her funeral or local caskets just so they can play it on tv and make even more blood money.
Whats next TLC? Horse baby, pig boy, parrot girl or abused and exploited half-asian kids; whoops they already have that.

how sad- she was such a little firecracker, sympathy to her mom and dad.

Oh, this is so sad, and shame on T.L.C for labeling her, "Mermaid Girl".
Haven't we become more sensitive to others with challenges? Calling her, "Mermaid Girl", reminds me of the days when people would be on display in a "freak Show" at the circus.
Sad news about that little kid.

Hopefully now she is at peace.

She had "mermaid syndrome"...calling her Mermaid Girl wasn't such a stretch, even for TLC. In fact, I think it made the birth defect more palatable for her because mermaid's are so rare and beautiful. Not the same as calling someone with mental deficits a TARD.

I have seen two babies born with this, neither survived because it is such a rare birth defect...usually lethal. They all had the longest, thickest and darkest eyelashes I have ever seen.

Aw, this makes me sad. I saw her on t.v. and was impressed by her optimistic attitude. I'm so sorry for her parents.

I wish TLC would show more specials like this even though they tend to have sad endings. Watching this little girl was a million times more interesting than watching moronic, often holier-than-thou parents who have 20 kids.

Awww, I just watched her on Oprah a week or 2 ago. She actually has a name, not the moniker The Mermaid Girl The Loser Channel slapper her with. RIP Shiloh Pepin.

Now this leave room for The Loser Channel to go back and do another special on Abby and Brittany Hensel.
I can't wait!!! (sarcasm)

How can a "loving God" allow such things. I thought we all were supposed to be made in his image. I've never seen a picture of god looking like a mermaid. I'm sorry, but it makes me a little bitter.

Anon 11:54- the so-called "loving God" allows even worse things than this to happen. And I know how you feel, it makes me bitter too. It sucks that Shiloh had to suffer the problems she did while idiots like the Kardashian sisters (in the post below Shiloh's) have such easy lives. It isn't fair, it isn't right, and there's nothing "loving" about it. I'm really ready to throw all my faith in God out the window at this point.

Have you ever heard the song "Dear God" by XTC? That describes how I'm starting to feel about the whole thing.

Instead of getting religious....

How about thinking some chromosomes got screwed up while Shiloh was a fetus? It happens. People should really appreciate how amazing it is when a baby is born healthy.

"firecrcaker" is exactly right! She was a little stinker. Her & her mom were so close and she had such personality. She was darling and spoke well. She did not lack education. I'm sure her mom is thankful for having her 10 entire years, as she was not supposed to live 10 days!! She was smart, wise and had a hellava problem, which she dealt with like a grown up. She even was thinking about the separation surgery at one time. It turned out not to be an option for her. She was funny. I liked her alot. I was sad to hear this today.

Elizabeth-I can only speak for myself here, but personally, I *know* the reason Shiloh had problems was because something developed wrongly while she was in the womb. What I want to know is why that kind of shit is allowed to happen while we're supposed to believe in a God who is loving. A loving God shouldn't let these things happen to innocent people. *That* is my problem with religion.
